Okay, I'm sorry, but that's the dumbest idea yet. If they didn't have Windows, why would they use Samba?

rpc and wine
can someone tell me how to get RPC and WINE to work in conjunction with one another? I have serious need to run an RPC application under linux's WINE port. If I cannot find a solution, I'm regretably going to have to change the OS to windows which I'd prefer not to do. Thanks, Chris

Questions on setting up icecast
yep, they simply forward the bitstream to icecast. And in general, bitrate changes are handled by most listening clients, although very few I have found (if any) can handle samplerate changes appropriately. oddsock At 10:03 AM 9/14/2004, you wrote: >You mentioned these programs and their "no-reencoding" mode. Hackers on my Web server
I have discovered that a gamer has hacked into my web server through a backdoor left open by my predecessor. I have closed the door, but when I try to delete the folders left behind I receive "Access Denied", or when I try to take ownership I receive "Unable to Find File...". I have removed most of the files to obtain enough space to continue operations but would like to remove

Questions on setting up icecast
Sorry, gang. The FAQ didn't seem to answer me, nor did Googling... I merely want a simple solution to do the following: I am setting up a streaming server for in-house use. I want it to broadcast the RAW MP3 DATA from my actual MP3 files, as I listen to them in xmms. In other words, I DO NOT want: XMMS ---> decode to wave ---> re-encode to MP3 ---> icecast ---> listeners I

Exim on all interfaces
Hi. I have a default installation of Exim with only a few changed settings. It appears to only bind to the loopback interface. I have not set any local_interfaces values, as the default behaviour is to bind on all interfaces. But alas, exim does not respond on its IP address: [root at obiwan ~]# /etc/init.d/exim restart Shutting down exim: [ OK ]

Strange connectivity problem from linux.
Hi I have been facing a strange connectivity problem from CentOS and Fedora boxes. When I telnet to $ telnet adp.eease.com 443 it works fine some times and every 5-10 tries or so it says connection refused. And this does not happen from my windows box. Can anyone from this list try this on their linux installation and see if they get the same behaviour? Thanks Tharun

Telnet and SSH login problems with Red Hat Enterprise ES4

The problems we are having are as follows: a) If we set connect with telnet, we get the login prompt. If we use any valid login name & password combination (including root), we get the response "Login incorrect" and then the login prompt comes back. How

Problems with port forwarding on Suse Linux 9.0
Problem: I'm trying to forward a port (say, port 25) of a SuSE 9.0 Linux system to an external client system (in this case running RedHat 9.0). It doesn't work, and the problem seems to be on the SuSE side. Details ======= On the client system, I run (where "suse-server" is the IP address of my SuSE server system to which I'm trying to connect) client> /usr/bin/ssh -f

SME on CentOS, telnet and MySQL
After failing to install on two different machines that were running Windows, I realized that one machine had a bad hard-drive, and the other bad memory. So I've collected the good parts into one machine and installed CentOS with SME. This was the fastest install of Linux I have every seen, 15 minutes done, configured, and running, web and email server. It is a very secure config, no GUI

I've tried "telnet localhost 5060" but it just says connection refused. I've also tried connecting from another machine on my network (eg. telnet 192.168.0.1 5060) but it also says
