root user in smbldap...how to change home
Hi,
I finally have my profiles problem squared away....
I've done away with the Administrator user in smbldap-tools by running
smbldap-populate -a root
instead of just plain
smbldap-populate
Thus root is now the samba admin. BUT....when I run getent passwd my
system shows the home directory as /home/root instead of /root....how can
I change this...or better yet how can I have my cake

scripting smbldap-useradd and smbldap-passwd
Is it possible to script smbldap-useradd and smbldap-passwd to add
users in bulk? Are there any sample scripts anywhere? I can't seem to
find anything.
Thanks,

Samba-3.0.2 PDC LDAP: Add computer to domain issue with smbldap-tools
Hi guys,
I've installed openldap-2.1.25 and Samba-3.0.2 and configured everything
with no TLS on a Slackware-9.1 Linux box.
To manage the LDAP backed I've used smbldap-tools-0.8.4.
After populating the database with smbldap-populate I was able to first
add users to /etc/passwd etc. and then to LDAP with smbldap-useradd -a
and access the server via Windows PCs. Everything appeared to be

smbldap-useradd problem
Dear list,
Arghl! (I'm sure you know the feeling).
I'm still hooked on Samba by example, and trying to add users to my ldap tree.

/usr/sbin/smbldap-useradd line 197
The documentation of the smbldap scripts mentions this sort of error

smbldap-useradd -w problem
I'm in the process of learning Samba and evaluating it as a possible
replacement for Windows NT servers in our office next year. I have set up a
small test network comprised of one NT 4 (SP6a) Workstation, one Windows
2000 Pro (SP3) and one Fedora Core 3 running samba 3.0.11 as a PDC. I'm
using LDAP as the passdb backend with smbldap-tools 0.8.7-1. The Windows

givenname and email address with smbldap-tools
Hi all,
I have setup samba / openldap as describes by the idealx howto and as
such I am using the smbldap-tools. However, I would like to add the
givenname and email address fields for all users. What is the best way
to do this? I would prefer continuing to use the smbldap-tools, but I
cannot seem to find a good way to do this. When I try to: $
smbldap-usermod -M testuser@testdomain.net

I'm installing Debian Sarge with Samba 3.0.14a-3, OpenLDAP 2.2.23-8,
smbldap-tools 0.8.7-4 ( I tried with 0.9.x version also)
It isn't the first time I install a system like this but this time I
encountered a problem never seen: during user insert I have an error because
of smbldap-tools do not find indicated group (but group exists!).

smbldap-tools and phpldapadmin
All,
I suspect this is OT, or a solution may have been posted. Either way, I beg your
indulgence.
While I've used Samba for quite a few years, I recently took a stab at using it in an
organization I volunteer at to create a PDC, in conjunction with openldap. The good
news is it works, for the most part, after some set-up struggles. I have a couple of
remaining issues, but let me take them

smbldap-tools and joining workstation to domain
Hi,
I've reported this before but I guess I'll have to do it again, since
it's not fixed yet or I'm understanding something wrong here.
The problem is that smbldap-useradd -w 'machinename' will add only
posixAccount entrys into ldap but it should add both posixAccount and
sambaSAMAccount entrys.
So if one doesn't add correct machine account entrys manually to ldap

smbldap-tools unresovled problem.
Hi All,
I am current working on Samba + LDAP PDC in RHEL-4.
I some problem when doing the smbldap-useradd -w command.
When I have a WinXP box try to join the PDC,
smbldap-useradd -w "%u" will add a workstation account to the LDAP tree
with all POSIX attribute but without all the SambaSAMAccount attribute.
So, the WinXP box can find it's workstation account and wouldn't

Needs to run smbldap-useradd as non-root user
Hello,
The abstract is :
How to run smbldap-useradd (and others) with a non-root user, knowing
that giving Samba privileges to the user's account is enough.
Now are details :
My setup is FreeBSD-8, samba35, nss_ldap, smbldap-tools... And NO pam_ldap.
I am creating a webservice which must run smbldap-tools scripts.
Everything is running on a FreeBSD-8, and running fine by root. However,
