bind or samba configuration preventing browsing network

I had samba working fine before I started to make it a WINS server and DNS host. I have a small LAN with no real administration functionality. The network is used for simple file sharing and dial-up

XP can browse samba by IP, but not by name - NMB issues?
I have an XP home (falcon) and an XP pro (tatooine) machine, both behind a rh9 box (hoth) acting as firewall. I've been trying to get samba set up on the linux box. I think I have it mostly working except that the XP boxes won't list hoth under "My Network Places - Microsoft Windows Network - MSHOME", and I cannot access hoth by name at all from the XP-pro box (by IP, I can

NT4 Domain Member Server Access Denied v3.07
I want to set up a Samba Server (Cactus_3) as member server in our NT4 domain (PDC is Cactus_1, BDC is Cactus_2). We have about 50 client workstations most of which are WinXP but we have a few Win2K and Win98 machines. Shortly we will migrate off the NT4 servers but in the meantime we wish to test some real time scenarios. It is for this reason that I want SSO so the tests are transparant

Seek clarification on use of 'net rpc join -U' to join a NT4 domain

One part I am confused about is the command "net rpc join -U" ... is the username to be used with this command the name of an administrator on the NT4 PDC? Does that administrator need to be an user on the Samba Server and a member of the "root" group? I successfully join using
