[Plugins] Create Example Apps for Your Plugins
Fellow Railers, May I throw out an idea for plugins? Let''s begin to put sample applications together for our plugins as a standard practice. This would be beneficial for a number of reasons: 1. Nothing teaches better than a real world example. 2. A working application leaves little room for excuses in not being able to get a plugin working. 3. Apps can help demonstrate best practices

using Samba3 smb.conf in Samba4
Is it now possible to use everything we had in Samba3 in Samba4? e.g. the provision now gives this: /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd: Ignoring unknown parameter "dcerpc endpoint servers" Most stuff works, but adding extra lines to smb.conf e.g. create mask = 0770 produces a similar error Cheers, Steve

AD: smb.conf of newly joined DC
Thank you Rowland for your replies. Isn't it possible to forward during join time the content of the right smb.conf? This could make deployment easier which would help some of us... Just my two cents... 2016-02-08 14:03 GMT+01:00 Rowland penny <rpenny at samba.org>: > On 08/02/16 12:36, mathias dufresne wrote: > >> Hi all, >> >> When provisionning a Samba 4 AD

The wisdom - or otherwise - of replacing outright rather than merely appending to the example smb.conf file shipped with SAMBA during new server commissioning?
I have a general question regarding smb.conf and I was hoping that some of the rather more knowledgeable and experienced people here could please comment please? I am currently setting my various SAMBA systems up via some shell-scripts. Within these scripts, I remove the stock smb.conf shipped with Samba and replace this with an empty smb.conf file to which I add my own configuration options

smbgroupedit does not honor ldap parameters from smb.conf
Hello, I've been using samba-3alpha22 as a PDC authenticating against LDAP. I am trying to add NT Groups using the smbgroupedit utility. It seems to me that smbgroupedit always looks in /etc/group and does not take into account the ldap configuration options specified in smb.conf. The relevant ldap entries are: passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://ebola/ ldap suffix="dc=datasoft,

smb.conf location
Hi all hopefully this may be an easy one, Basically i've compiled and installed samba3 (I used to be running 2.2.8a) however i've moved my smb.conf file from /usr/local/samba/lib to /etc/samba. I'm getting a problem where smbstatus is asking for the old location of the smb.conf which doesn't exist anymore. I can run a testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf which completes without errors

Name Resolve Order : parameter of smb.conf with testparm
I am writing this letter and I hope that I'll have answers about the generation of smb.conf by the way of smb.conf.master with testparm command. Like is described on page 5 of Samba3-HOWTO.pdf. The situation is: - The manual of smb.conf says that the default value of the parameter ?name resolve order? is ?lmhosts host wins bcast?, but when I type the command like: # testparm -s

writable = yes for Profiles in smb.conf.default
Hello all I'm suggesting to add line 'writable = yes' for Profiles share in file examples/smb.conf.default. Then the complete share def looked like ;[Profiles] ; path = /usr/local/samba/profiles ; browseable = no ; guest ok = yes ; writable = yes The reason is simply I spent two days figuring out why my Samba PDC did not work. That line was missing. Not very clever, I

slapd.conf samba schema question
I am running samba 3.0.22 on RHES 3.0 and I currently have slapd.conf configured to use "include /etc/openldap/schema/samba.schema" do I need to change the schema to samba3.schema? Why I ask this I have bought Samba 3 by example and the example for Suse Linuxhas use the samba3.schema. Logical I would think I would want to do this. Should I update the slapd.conf to include

%g Variable of smb.conf
Hi, I planned to use the %g Variable in the "template homedir" section, but this Variable only gives me the gid, not the name of the group as mentioned in "man smb.conf". Anyway, if I use %g or %G no difference. [global] interfaces = 127.0.0.1 eth0 bind interfaces only = true workgroup = WG realm = WG.LOCAL security = ads password server = vmix7.WG.LOCAL

Where is the default 'smb.conf' located?
I compiled and installed the latest samba 3.0.0rc1. I see that the binary executable was placed in the default location of /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd. However, I cannot located the default smb.conf file. I was expecting that the 'make install' script would have copied this file somewhere onto my system. Where is the default 'smb.conf' file located?

Samba 4 smb.conf parameters
Dear all, after al lot playing around with samba 4 . There are a few questions concerning the parameters left for the smb.conf. Where can I get a link to the parameters for read and write permissions and so on. It seems the old parameters are gone. External Authentication
Hi Vex, There's always the alternative to install a Microsoft server, and pay for everything. For an educational institution, the license fees are acceptable, but the MS licensing conditions are very complex. In principle you need a license for every device that connects to a MS server, plus the OS license(s). And the hardware. Another alternative is Redhat IPA (and clones). And

Change "Computers" settings in Samba 4
Hi, I used to successfully migrated Samba3 to Samba4 but there are some problems which I can't proceed coz it needs to be re-authenticated the computers/machines previously connected in Samba3. As I observed, using the Windows Remote Administration Tools (Active Directory Users and Computers) under the Computers, the computer name properties in General tab some entries are blanks a) DNS name

LLD: time to enable --threads by default
> Sounds like threading isn't beneficial much beyond the second CPU... > Maybe blindly creating one thread per core isn't the best plan... parallel.h is pretty simplistic at the moment. Currently it creates one per SMT. One per core and being lazy about it would probably be a good thing, but threading is already beneficial and improving parallel.h an welcome improvement. Cheers,
