Email server
Hi guys,
I am a newbie so please bear with me here.
The question is not really related to Samba but to Red Hat. I want to install some EMail Server program on my RH 9 so that I could use my Red Hat PC as email server. Do you guys know of any program that I can use?
By the way I installed RH9 with all options, so I guess I would have something inside my PC that would serve this prrpose that I

Migration from NT4 to W2K3 AD
Are there any gotcha's.....
I am currently using winbindd and very successfully integrating my Samba
boxes with the NT4 domain structure. The admin who is doing the migration
(A corporate person not used to Linux at all) is already nervous about the
migration since it involves Linux.
Usernames are not supposed to change..but, the authentication domain is

Problem with wbinfo
Hello,
I'm using a Samba client to access a Samba Server. The "smbclient
tool" is ok, both at the client as at the server. I'm having trouble
with the "wbinfo" command (winbind service) at the client, as you can
see below.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks!!!

winbind debugging help.. act 2
Folks,
Not even a peep. Did I ask the wrong question or am I on the wrong
list? I don't mind pointers to more information....
I own both the recent books on Samba 3 and they are very good, but I seem
to be missing something.
Anyways...
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon,

loosing connections after upgrade to 3.09
I had 3.05 running fine with an NT4 domain. I am using SERVER
authentication with the machines and users. After the upgrade some of my
users are no longer recognized ...or rather they are part of a trusted
domain (NT4 -> NT4 trust)....and they do not get authenticated
properly....so they can no longer map their home directory.
Also, some people are loosing their mapping to their home

Win2K3 Server, in Terminal Session,
I have almost the same setup (NT4 domain, with W2K3 Terminal Server)....
I am using Suse 9.2, Samba 3.0.21b, with winbindd on a generic x86 server.
No special package configurations...just the rpms from samba for Suse.
I do have the same problems.

3 simple questions
Hi. I am running 3.0.20.
1. I would like to have an include statement pointing to user
configurations. For a user, say 'mike', the following works:
include = /home/mike/smb.conf
But this does not:
include = /home/%u/smb.conf
I am using a very simple config with 'security = user'. What am I doing
wrong?
I cannot get any log feedback from this ('testparm' says

Can't Install Samba 3.0.14a
I'm running FC3 with its bundled samba 3.0.11-fc3, and I'm trying to
update to 3.0.14a. I've downloaded the rpms from samba.org, and (I
think) I've backed up the original samba installation--/etc/samba--and
I've stopped smb (I had to kill the smbd and nmbd processes;
"/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop" didn't work). I've also withdrawn (make
uninstall) an

samba as a domain member
Hello,
I am new to this list but I have been learning to use linux/bsd and samba for the past year. so far I have been able to learn enough on my own to be able to successfully set up a functional samba server on FreeBSD and Gentoo Linux boxes. I am trying to learn how to integrate them into an Active Directory windows 2003 server domain. So far I have verified that Kerberos and ldap and winbind

Overloaded samba server. Is it a bug?
Experts,
We've just migrated from samba 2.2.8a to samba 3.0.20b in a very large
corporate environment. Everything was really fine in our lab, but we
began
experiment serious load problems on the productive servers the morning
after
the procedure took place. I'll try (briefly) to describe the
characteristics
of the scenario:

'security = ads' & 'valid users ='
I will be upgrading my Samba server from 2.2.8a to 3.0.10. I currently
have security set to 'share' and plan on migrating to 'ads' for improved
authentication. I have one snag, though...
I have remote users who reside in and are managed by a Windows domain
that is not in my control. There is no trust relationship at all. If I
use 'ads' security, can I add a 'valid

Alias for sending email messages from root
I have run into what can only be described as a farce but one that is
outside my control and which I need fixed.
I am informed that my cell phone service provider, Bell Canada, will
not allow any email messages from a user id 'root' to pass through
their email to sms text gateway. Now, I send alerts out from cron and
other system monitoring software and these all go out as
root at

1 BDC per 50 Clients? Can that really be true? (HOWTO)
In "the 500 user office" section of the Samba Guide, John Terpstra
lists some seriously disappointing numbers for Samba scalability. To
quote, "As a general rule, there should be at least one Backup Domain
Controller per 50 Windows network clients. The principle behind this
recommendation is the fact that correct operation of MS Windows clients
requires rapid network response
