access denied with samba share
Hello Samba group,
Problem:
I cannot get samba share to grant access to my /shared
share. I created it, gave the linux user permissions
and tested them, my Windows XP Pro sees the share, I
can map a drive to it, but I cannot change to it:
Access denied is the error I get. I'm logged into
Windows XP as the same user ID and password as on the
Linux system.
I had a problem when accessing the

Samba 3.0.4 + Veritas Backup Exec
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone can help me here? Having just upgraded from Samba
3.0.2a to Samba 3.0.4, I've found that Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 is no
longer able to browse my shares. A quick "make revert" and everything is
back as it should be. The things I see in the samba log are like this:

Autoconfigure miss on Solaris 8 x86 (2.3.0p1)
Your configure checks for u_int*_t in <sys/types.h> and checks
for them in <sys/bitypes.h> only together with int*_t.
I have BIND 8.2.2-P5, and use it's include files with OpenSSH.
BIND's bitypes.h defines only the unsigned types, so the second
test fails, and then the first compilation during 'make' fails
because of a redefinition of u_int*_t.
I'd recommend to

Impossible to IPfilter this?
Hi!
I'm trying to increase security on my FreeBSD 4.8 firewall/DSL router/VPN
router.
My problem is with firewalling the VPN part. I'm using a tunnel to a
RedHat 7.1 box running FreeS/WAN. This tunnel allows traffic from my
internal net (172.17.0.0/24) to that box only:
spdadd 172.17.0.0/24 $REDHAT/32 any -P out ipsec esp/tunnel/$MYADDR-$REDHAT/unique;
spdadd $REDHAT/32 172.17.0.0/24

Update -> Someone with "Access Denied" from Windows pls try this test to compare notes with me
Wow, an old message from 2004 and I'm seeing the same problem across my
network presently.
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-August/091252.html
What is interesting is that there were not problems until about 4 weeks
ago. At first I thought it might be me and my numerous passwords getting
confused, but then my wofes laptop started showing the same symptoms.
Both laptops have

Access Denied, Roaming Profile -- no apparent reason...
Samba 3.0.28a-0.fc8 & Windows XP.
When logging on to machine 'A' one of my users gets an "Access Denied"
message for a particular cookie file -- 'statse'. When logging on to
another machine ('B'), there is no problem.
I have tried, when logged in as administrator (mapped to root on the
server), to read the cookie file on both machines. Machine 'A'

Unexpected "Access Denied"
Background:
This situation is using Rational ClearCase in a situation with server on
Solaris 10
and clients on a mixture of Windows XP and Windows 7, with access to the
VOB (repository) enabled via Samba version: 3.4.9
Users are getting a consistent error with a specific ClearCase operation
(Add to Source Control), which we have traced to a Samba interaction.
The issue:

Joining samba-2.2.x to a domain.
A little background info before I begin.
I'm using samba-tng as a PDC (netbiosname 'TITANIUM' and the domain
'FOO') and samba-2.2.7a as a fileserver (netbiosname 'HAILSTORM') on the
same machine. (different interfaces)
The PDC is all set up and I've joined several windows 2000 clients and I
encounterd no real problems.
But all the files on the samba-2.2.a

Weird operator behaviour
Hi,
I have a dataset called 'fish'. fish$Species returns extract 1. When I use
fish$Species != c("CRA","PHC"), i.e. I want all species except "CRA" and
"PHC", I get extract 2 which is blatantly wrong. Can anyone see what I'm
doing wrong?
Regards,
James

Win upgrade pb (virus)
I just upgraded my Win7 32bits installation to 2.14.0 after deinstalling
2.12.x
First thing I moved the win-library from 2.12 to 2.14 and executed a
update.packages(ask='graphics',checkBuilt=TRUE)
(Swiss mirror).
This aborts with the console message:
Error in if (any(diff)) { : missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed
And the antivirus (AVG) pops up complaining that colorspace.dll

iOS Mail app and rapid authenticate / disconnect on Dovecot proxy
Hi folks,
I have a handful of iOS 10.2.1 Mail app IMAP clients that intermittently
break into this unexplained authenticate-then-immediately-disconnect
behavior when connecting to a RHEL7 Dovecot (dovecot-2.2.10-7.el7)
proxy, providing proxied connections to a backend Panda/UW-IMAP server.
From talking to the users, the activity would appear to be spontaneous

Discrepancy in the regression coefficients for Cox regression - PBC data set
Hi,
When I run the following Cox proportional hazards model on the Mayo clinic's
PBC data set (given in the "survival" package), the regression coefficients
do not agree with the results presented in Table 4.6.3 (p. 195) of Fleming &
Harrington's book.

Hi folks,
Not sure how much extra information I'll be able to provide on this, but
I'm experiencing a consistent, reproducible dsync backup error with a
single, specific account I'm trying to migrate from UW-IMAP / Panda (mix
mailbox) to a Dovecot 2.2.32 cluster. Didn't spot any core files laying
around.

Transparent socks proxy
Hello,
I'm running Wine 0.9.10 on a Fedora Core 5 at work.
I'd like to use the Socks5 proxy we've got with application run under Wine.
The application I'm using in Wine works fine using direct connection to the
internet but this application has no settings I can change to inform it of
the socks proxy.
So I'm using Sockscap32 2.38 from www.permeo.com . It works fine under

Error 16: Inconsistent filesystem structure after a change in the system
I''ve hit this bug on my home machine couple of times and finally decided to log
it since I''ve spend 2 days configuring my "OpenSolaris 2008.11 snv_101b_rc2

The package contains a necessary module for CIFS. After pkg install

CentOS Community,
Is there a command to boot into a different version of the kernel? I
believe this is setup via grub.conf but unsure. There are a few
different kernels loaded into /boot but I want to see if there is a
command to boot into a different kernel as a single instance or
