PDC Migration to Samba
Hi I've been trying to finally switch off our NT4 PDC over the last few months and transfer PDC duties to our Samba file server. Although I have no difficulty in getting the Samba box to authenticate users as the PDC, I have never been able to migrate the user's settings over. As far as the clients (NT4 and W2K) are concerned, users effectively start with a "clean slate" i.e.

Problem authenticating with Samba (security=domain) + Windows 2000 PDC
Hi all!! I'd set up my samba 2.2.7 to auth with "security=domain" mode, but my clients cannot auth successfully never because the samba server cannot "talk" correctly with my PDC(w2k adv. Server). In the computer manager event, I see authentication request but with empty usernames......so the PDC reject the authentication request. Is this a know

is it possible to migrate to samba and keep existing SIDs?
Hello, I am using smaba-3.0beta3 on linux (RedHat 7.3). I noticed that 'net rpc vampire' does not retrieve the existing SIDs from the domain PDC, rather it creates new ones. This is a problem if users have files saved locally on their NT workstations, as the SIDs won't match after the migration to samba PDC. Is there a way to migrate from an NT PDC to a samba one and still

Migrating samba 2.x PDC to new machine and samba 3.x PDC
I'm trying to migrate from an older samba 2.x PDC machine into a new machine that has samba 3.x and also uses an LDAP backend. I've heavily used the IDEALX.org website and documentation to get the vast majority of the work accomplished and working. I had to modify some scripts that were referenced there for migrating posix accounts over to LDAP so that they could also handle

smaba 3.0 - domain groups : OS info
I dont think its a OS problem, Im using suse 8.1. If you log into the windows box as root you can see the groups and the users in the groups. Any other user including domain admins can not. This would indicate that there is a problem with samba, either with ACLs accessing group information or passing group/user information from the system to a smbd process owned by a user other than root.

I am trying to migrate a W2K workstation from a W2K PDC to a Samba 2.2.5 PDC without re-joining the Domain. I have given the Domain SID, the W2K PDC netbios name and the Domain name to the Samba PDC. Then I have created the account for the W2K workstation in the LDAP-directory with the password and the

Replacement of a windows 2000 PDC with active directory by samba/LDAP
Hi I'm currently working on a project aiming at replacing all windows servers (about 20) in my company by linux servers. Some of these windows servers are windows 2000 domain controlers (one PDC and few BDCs) with active directory. We have about 900 client windows 2000 workstations and about 2/3 of them are domain members. Our goal is to replace the windows servers that are domain controlers
