Domain member server with local users
Hi, I'm trying to build a samba server that shall substitue one of our NT4 servers but I'm having some problems with setting up the local user account: The NT4 server was member of a ressource domain (R1) and also had a local user account named "bcd" which is needed for a boot-cd. Normal users authenticated through the master domains M1 and M2 which has all the necessary trusts

Problem after joining Windows domain: Will Samba support "fallback" to local domain for authentication of local users?
Will Samba support "fallback" to local domain for authentication of local users? I joined a RHEL4 server running Samba 3.0.10-1.4E.11 to a Windows 2000/2003 mixed-mode domain today using "security = domain", after having run for many months in "security = user" mode. Authentication works fine for users defined in the Windows domain, but we have a few users (mainly

Authentication of local users (smbpasswd) fails with security = domain
Hi list, I have set up a samba installation (SLES 11, Samba 3.2.7) and joined a domain. I've created local users (/etc/passwd) and can authenticate with this users against the domain controller. Now I want to add a local user (with smbpasswd) and authenticate with this user which does not exist in the domain. When I'm trying to log in with the user the log says: domain_client_validate:

Solution to a Problem - Adding domain users as local Admins fails
I thought I'd post an observation about a problem I solved so that others might benefit. I must admit I was struggling with the issue for a couple of days, and solved it, though I'm not sure exactly what solved it but I'll share the observations nonetheless, for the benefit of others. PROBLEM BEHAVIOUR I was unable to view domain users as the local admin, even if I authenticated

AW: strange copy speed
Hello G?tz, could you do a closer look at your smbd (maybe with truss or strace) to see what exactly happens? or maybe it would be enough to watch traffic between your client and server (and traffic between your server and nameserver, domaincotroler (if involved)) best regards, chris -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: samba-bounces+christian.masopust=siemens.com@lists.samba.org

R: local users in domain member security.
Hi Jerry, it works but I would like to ask you how can I translate the same situation for my ms dos client, maybe I have to insert workgroup = sambamachine instead of domain name? Practically they aren't domain users but localy users isn't it?Or I'm wrong? Thanks, Marco. > -----Messaggio originale----- > Da: Gerald (Jerry) Carter [SMTP:jerry@samba.org] > Inviato: marted? 1

WinXP Pro domain join OK -- add domain users to local groups NOT
Good day everyone and sorry to add to the traffic with one more (possibly stupid) question. I have the following problem which I could reproduce with both Samba 2.2.7 and 2.2.8 and with about 5 clients. I install WindowxXP Pro (w/SP1), I modify "RequireSignOrSeal=0", I join the domain (using a 'root' account that is present in smbpasswd and whose password I know) -- and

Samba Authentication of Local Linux Users
Hi, I'm trying to setup a samba server that will serve linux shares out to users accross the network. I'd like authentication to be done locally, and I want it to authenticate against pam using the already existing local linux user accounts. I am not authenticating domain users, or windows users, and I don't want to use smbpasswd. Is there some way to force samba to

Samba ads and local users
Hi All, I have a network that's slowly being moved over to Active Directory. Having used samba all this time though, im reluctant to let them go. So I've setup a test Samba server to use the ADS, which allows all my domain users to connect directly to the samba server for the home drives and other shares (working perfect!). However, I have a lot of other users that won't be

Strange problem with Samba as AD member
Dear all, I've a real strange problem with one of my Samba-servers. Most of the time a lot of users get the message about "trust relationship failure" when trying to access the share on this server. Below you find part of a log where the user can access the share and a few seconds later it's no longer possible. "net ads testjoin" shows that join of the samba-server
