windows clients can't see workgroup at all
I'm trying to troubleshoot a new samba setup on a tiny network, and I'm
clearly missing something. I'm running Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu Linux.
When I first set it up, it seemed to go so smoothly. I changed all the
workstations to the same workgroup (RABNETWORK) and they could see each
other and the server, but they couldn't open anything on the server. I don't
really understand

Preloading WINS registrations
I have a couple of Samba boxes, one of which is dedicated to WINS. The other I dole out anti-virus stuff to 3,500 odd PCs from.
This second one will disappear from the WINS server from time to time which is a bit of a pain. I use nmblookup -R -U <wins_ip> <2nd_box_ip> to test for it. All clients are configured as "P" nodes so WINS is a bit essential. To bring it back I

Mapping between domain NetBIOS name and DNS name ?
Hi,
Does anyone know how to lookup a domain's DNS name with its NetBIOS name ?
And how to do the reverse?
Thanks a lot.

paravirt_ops queue rebased
I just rebased my paravirt_ops patch queue to current git. Looks like
almost all the pre-req patches are now in, which is nice.
The only missing thing from your patches was you sched_clock patches and
the sched_clock paravirt-op. Are there still problems with either your
sched_clock patch or the paravirt patch? Should I resubmit the
paravirt-sched_clock patch based on git?

Corsair Flash Voyager utility
Hi,
a year ago i installed corsair flash voyager utility with wine. This is the encryption tool for a corsair usb-stick, that runs only under windows, but i hoped, i could use it with ubuntu and wine. But it didn't work. So i tried to uninstall it. But i can't get rid of it.
Even now, with Hardy heron 8.04 and the newest update for wine, i can't uninstall corsair flash voyager

[PATCH] i386: introduce voyager smp_ops, fix voyager build
This adds an smp_ops for voyager, and hooks things up appropriately.
This is the first baby-step to making subarch runtime switchable.

Mobile phone codecs ...
Not strictly asterisk related, however...
Here's an odd one for you.. I got a Nokia E90 and setup it's SIP client
which runs via Wi-Fi (anyone know if I can make it work via GPRS/3G?)
Anyway, in a fit of idleness, I thought I'd see what codecs it supports,
as I couldn't find it in the manual...
And it supports:
ilbc
g729
ulaw/alaw
No GSM!
How odd is that, given

"could not connect to host - localhost"
Hi All:
I'm running Mandrake 8.1 (downloaded) and the install went fine.
Configuring Samba however is another story. I get the message "could not
connect to host - localhost" on the Linux box. I cannot see the network
from the Linux system. The Linux system is visable from Win'98SE as are the
shares but I cannot access them "password is incorrect".
This does not

winbind question
I could use some input to point out the error in my configuration, which
eludes me.
Previously I operated a 225-node cluster with samba 4.3 and sssd on the
Linux boxes. Everything worked OK.
Now I am using samba 4.11.6 on CentOS 7.7, patched up to date. The DC, on
a KVM VM, is the only node configured so far. I am using winbind in place
of sssd (my first experience with winbind). BIND9_DLZ

Windows 10 SysVol and GPO problems
Hi,
Thanks for reading. I have recently started to try and get Windows 10 machines working with our Samba 4.3.3 domain controller and have run into a few issues with gpupdate /force
The error given by Windows is “The processing of group policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\domain.com.au <smb://domain.com.au>” etc.
Its interesting because access is denied with the file path

The virtuailization patches break Voyager.
Guys currently I am horrified by the ease at which I can find
bugs in the pending paravirtualization patches. I have barely
even looked at arch/i386 in the -mm tree and it feels like
I am tripping over significant bugs left and right.
Because no one has heeded my advice and put in a proper platform
layer on arch/i386 and we are instead doing a half baked job
with paravirt_ops it is still

query WINS for all registered machines in an workgroup or domain
Hi,
I searched the documentation and the web but cannot find a way to query
a wins server for all registered machines in an workgroup or domain.
If I want to ask the wins with nmblookup, I have to specify a single
name to lookup, wildcards are not allowed.
If using the broadcast facility I can search with wildcards:
nmblookup '*' -B 192.168.0.255
querying * on 192.168.0.255
192.168.0.7
