I've always HATED printing with Samba
Primarily because I've never gotten it to work despite frequent efforts. Offeding printer is a Lexmark Z53 (supposedly fully supported) and when ever I try to add it to an XP box I get "Server doesn't have the right driver, do you wish to upload the driver?" then when I do it says "Cannot connect to the printer. CUPS postscript driver - setting up **ERRATA**
Hi All, Following instructions from here: http://samba.mirror.ac.uk/samba/docs/man/CUPS-printing.html#id2942237 and also in the "Official Samba Howto" book, I tried to install the CUPS PS driver using cupsaddsmb. It failed due to various reasons, and then I finally got it to work. When I unpacked the latest tar.gz file (cups-samba-5.0rc3.tar.gz) it doesn't unpack the files as:

problems with cupsaddsmb
Hi! I'm using Suse 9.0 with cups 1.1.19 and Samba 3.0. I'm trying to share my printer on the network. Testparm runs without errors and I can see my printer in the network neighborhood. So the smb.conf should be fine. But when I try to install the driver with cupsaddsmb I get the following error. zwobot:/usr/sbin # ./cupsaddsmb -U root -a -v Password for root required to access

Printing Issues with NT type Clients.
Hi. To begin with, I have a freshly built RedHat Linux 8.0 box running samba 2.2.8a. The kernel version is 2.4.18-14. I downloaded and compiled samba from source. I am using LPRng-3.8.9-6 as my printing system. The attached printer is a Lexmark Z22 printer and it is attached to the parralel port. Problem: For the life of me, I can't get NT type clients, NT4, 2K and XP to print to samba.

Samba 3 and cupsaddsmb
I can't even get cupsaddsmb to work right. I followed the configuration instructions from the documentation, and my smb.conf matches what the cupsaddsmb man page says. I am getting extremely frustrated with this and not being able to allow clients to download drivers from Samba. With cupsaddsmb, this is the error I am receiving when it gets to this point, over and over: Running command:

Windows 7 64-bit drivers / cupsaddsmb
I'm getting ready to migrate my office of 50+ Windows XP machines to Windows 7, in a mix of 64-bit and 32-bit clients. I've setup a new samba server on a separate domain to prepare and test for this transition. I've gotten everything to work so far except for printing, and I'm at a loss on how to proceed. It appears to me as if adding the printer drivers in the usual way,

cupsaddsmb - why the heck can't I get rpcclient-addprinter to work?
I can't seem to get the rpcclient-addprinter to work - grrrrrr It looks like the drivers files are copied correctly and the NT drivers are added correctly but the addprinter command says it's unsuccessful! rpcclient localhost -N -U JOHNSON\\root -c 'enumprinters' shows the printer!! What's going on? I've tried removing /var/cache/samba/ntdrivers.tdb

CUPS removal of cupsaddsmb
Hi All, I was recently directed to look at some upstream CUPS changes which impact Samba's printer server functionality: cupsaddsmb has been dropped via https://github.com/apple/cups/commit/f1def5b85f51120f5dc1eb21e1f38860ef41be9c Given that it's only just gone in, I wouldn't expect it to reach distros for some time, but I think it's worth discussing how/whether we should react.

Automating cupsaddsmb or some alternative
I am developing a print server for a client, and I need to make the ability to add and configure print servers as simple as possible. So far, cups and samba are top notch, but there are two problems I have. One, I need to restart the samba service every time I add a printer. Two, I need to log in via console or SSH to run cupsaddsmb, and I need to then authenticate. I was wondering if there was

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all, I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use. I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot find the PPD file... where is

Hello, I posted 2 weeks ago this problem and it is currently not working. First thanks a lot for all the hints and helps. In the attached file I have added (hopefully) all informations. Printing NT to Linux printer problem
Using SuSE V8.0 Samba 2.2.7a on a small network I have a Lexmark laser printer attached to the Linux PC, using Cups 1.1.15. I was able to print from Linux OK, and some months ago had setup the Win NT PC to print across the network to the laser. So all was well. Recently I had a couple of problems with the NT machine (the usual BSOD's etc) also had a couple of problems with the SuSE PC
