Samba 2.2 to 3.0.9 DC upgrade problems
Hi all,
I just replaced a client's SUSE 8.0/Samba 2.2 DC with a SUSE 9.2/Samba 3.0.9
DC. Drives were giving trouble, and since that box was a first attempt at a
linux DC there was a lot of room for improvement.
I copied the profiles and home directories over to the new machine, chowned
them to the new users. I also did extracted the securid from the old DC and
set it to the new one

NIS schema clash
Hi list,
I'm trying to set up an OpenLDAP server to provide the goodies for samba
and postfix running on the same box - SUSE 9.2 Pro
The trouble start fairly early, unfortunately. I'm following the
idealx.org documentation, which suggest using samba.schema as well as
inetorgperson.schema and nis.schema. (John Terpstra's book suggest this
as well).
There seems to be a conflict

dhcp.conf
Hi all,
I just want to double check.
include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf
Does this the same as the ordinary /etc/dhcpd.conf or is it a different
file? What should be the content be?
Searching google for "/etc/SAMBA/dhcp.conf" only brings up multiple
entries of the smb.conf line.
Thanks

weird permission problem
Hi all,
I setup a DC for a company who until now have been using standalone
WindowsXP Pro desktops in a "workgroup."
Initially I just added the users, standard setup. They all belong to
the group "users."
Then they asked for a limited group to have access to the financial
folders. So I added a group "financial" and limited access to users in
the financial group.

samba + pptp
Hi guys,
I have samba domain controller running at a client. It's a fairly
simple and straightforward setup, uses smbpasswd for auth, nothing
fancy.
The client wants to be able to vpn in and access their files. I setup
pptp, and use the built in WindowsXP client.
After establishing the vpn connection, I can access the domain
controller. I get asked for my username and pass - type in

Email server
Hi guys,
I am a newbie so please bear with me here.
The question is not really related to Samba but to Red Hat. I want to install some EMail Server program on my RH 9 so that I could use my Red Hat PC as email server. Do you guys know of any program that I can use?
By the way I installed RH9 with all options, so I guess I would have something inside my PC that would serve this prrpose that I

MS SQL server and samba
Hi guys,
I setup a Samba box to act as a backup server (storage), for the windows
servers to dump their backups on. The MS SQL 2000 server won't see the
samba box. Windows it self does, but SQL not. Even if I map a network path
to a local drive, it still doesn't see it, so I cannot point the backups that
way.
Is there any special trick to getting this to work?
Thanks

Linux disk quota support
Dear Listmembers,
I installed samba-3.0.28 and configured --with-quotas, but I don't seem
to be getting quota support. Is there a description on how to do quotas
with samba? Is there something I should know about besides the
configuration
option --with-quotas?
Thank you,
Emre Brookes

AD DCs Upgrade
I am planning to upgrade the DCs using the join and promote method.
List of DCs

Currently SAMBA1 is the PDC and SAMBA2 is the "SDC" and are in sync with replication and rsync sysvol. DCs SAMBA1 and SAMBA2 are 4.1 git releases with AD Schema version 47.
My plan to get to AD Schema version 69 was...

2 WINS Servers and WINS FORWARDING
Hello List,
I have a special L2 VPN connected samba deployment setup and I want to
make sure the name resolution arrangement is the best for the network.
Setup : network 1 + Samba1<<SAME IP range>> <L2 VPN> network2 <<SAME IP
range>> + Samba2
I have noticed that the wins server and wins support options are
non-inclusive.

samba3 upgrade misery
Greetings, all
We've been running samba2 for far too long - I'd just never found the time to
upgrade, and it wasn't a priority since it WORKED. Our little Solaris9/SPARC64
box happily served our few gigs of files to 20 users, and played the part of a PDC.
Then I upgraded CUPS, and discovered samba2 doesn't like cups-1.2 libs, and
figured it was as good an excuse to make the

Logon script change failure
I've got a bunch of servers which for a long time now have provided
domain logon scripts of the form %u.bat or %m.bat I've recently
created a more capable logon script in Kixtart and have changed smb.conf
to launch it for all users as just logon.bat So no more per-machine or
per-user scripts, everybody runs the same one, and inside it it does
per-machine and/or per-user things. At maybe

Two machines, lets call them server1 and server2 share the same disk with

Change Samba package installations
Hi,
I hope somebody can help me dealing with this problem. I have this
problem of installing Samba2 into /opt/samba. How can I make the package
install to /opt/samba instead of /usr/local/samba2 ??. This is because
my hard disk space in /usr/local is about full and my /opt has alot of
spaces.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello to the list,
We have installed samba 3.0.12 on a solaris sparc server , mainly acting as

Some user want to save whole disk-images on their shares which exceed the 2

Now my question:
Do i need to compile with option "-m64" , or is the underlaying FS
responseable for a successful

Dear all
For some reasons I would like to run two samba installations (/opt/samba1
and /opt/samba2) on the same host.
Is such a dual installation supported?
If yes, what do I have to consider?
With many thanks

Samba-created files with POSIX ACLs gaining execute bit
Hai,
The docs shown are a bit old, yes, i suggest start reading these.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_POSIX_ACLs
Look at the smb.conf man and search for acl ( or exec )

Anyone have management docs for a Samba migration?
I'm helping out a Sun colleague, who has to present
a formal proposal and plan to management for Solaris adoption.
If anyone has docs for a migration, I'll happily
scrub them of any identifying matter for our use, and
if it's OK, for addition to the supporting material
at samba.org.
