Upgrading a Samba Domain
I am trying to upgrade our fully functional Samba domain from v3.0.2 to v3.0.7 or v3.0.8. My question is, do I have to upgrade every server in the domain in order for it to work or should I be able to upgrade one server at a time, test it, and move on to the next server? Or should I upgrade the domain controller first, then upgrade the member servers one at a time? I've tried to upgrade

Does this Scenario Sound Like a Winbind Problem?
Earlier this year I upgraded all of our Unix Solaris servers from Samba v2.2.8 w/no domain to Samba v3.0.2 w/one domain. I have been adding Windows 2000 and Windows XP workstations to the domain. Everything has been working fine. I run the winbindd daemon but do not have winbind "configured" in any other way other than these few entries in the global section of the smb.conf files on

Domain member server with local users
Hi, I'm trying to build a samba server that shall substitue one of our NT4 servers but I'm having some problems with setting up the local user account: The NT4 server was member of a ressource domain (R1) and also had a local user account named "bcd" which is needed for a boot-cd. Normal users authenticated through the master domains M1 and M2 which has all the necessary trusts

--delete question.
Please advise on rsync usage. --delete doesn?t work without recursion(--recursion). The recursion is causing huge overheads for me. My directory trees are huge. Any suggestions through which I can cut overheads. It used to work well in rsync-v2.5.5 /opt/rsync-v2.5.5/bin/rsync --delete --checksum -lptgoD --rsync-path=/opt/rsync-v2.5.5/bin/rsync --hard-links --timeout=5184000 --exclude=.snapshot

TCP_NODELAY
I recently downloaded and installed v3.0.8 and installed it on HP-UX 11.11. Thankfully, all of the compile problems I reported in 3.0.2 are now gone (not sure why no one ever acknowledged my bug, but whatever). However, now my system is complaining that TCP_NODELAY is not a valid option. I did not turn it off during the compile, don't see it listed as an option, and worse than that, it is

RES: Acess windows 2003 to samba 3.0.10
Hi Neo I installed the samba 3.0.23.d, because I thought that it is a """""stable version""""", but the problem continued. Same error, same problem: "smbd/sesssetup.c:setup_new_vc_session() setup_new_vc_session: New VC == 0, if NT4.x compatible we would ". I tried to use your command: "/usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd -V Version 2.2.08a

Samba 4.2.0rc4 can't authenticate users
This problem shows up on both Linux and Solaris. I am going to show the logs from a Fedora 2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 machine. We are using 'security = domain' with a Windows 2000 domain controller. We are setting 'password server = starfish2' dispite the fact that the documentation says that this in not necessary as we have found it to be necessary. We are setting 'workgroup =

Permission denied but ok?...
Was just browsing web and tried to save some files on a samba share and got: permission denied 3 times in a row... (and now on 4th try, it worked). The log for the past hour looks a bit odd... why so many module reloads? wouldn't they load once? Also I've never seen the "New VC == 0, if NT4.x compatible we would close all old resources." Why would I get so many session

Member server only shares locally
Hello In 2 different subnets I have setup 2 identical samba servers (RH 6.5) as fileservers for windows clients. Each is a member of it's own AD Domain (Windows 2003 Servers). The problem: one of them only is accessible and sharing locally. On the windows-client, trying to mount a share gives this error: C:\Users\testuser>net use y: \\samba_server\topfolder /user:testuser System

Unable to join Win client to domain (user not found error)
Hello, I'm having some difficulty trying to join a WinXP client to our Samba domain. When I try to join the client to the domain and I submit the computer name and the domain name in the computer identification control panel, I'm prompted for the root user and password on the server, so I enter root and the root password on our Samba server. I then get a message saying that it

Urgent Please - Samba 3.0.1 - LDAP - WinXP ... has anyone got it working???
I've been trying to have Samba 3.0.1 work as a primary domain controller using LDAP as the authentication mechanism. However I am unable to get any of my Windows XP Pro machine join the domain. When prompt for an account with permissions to join the domain by the XP client, I give it the Administrator account which is granted Full access to the LDAP directory (BTW this is poor security,
