Problems with roaming profile setup
Hi all
When I set up my users directly on my server either on the server or through
ssh everything seems to work fine.
When I set up new users through Windows User Manager I have problems getting
the roaming profiles and home directories to work. I have to set them
explicitly as I add each user.
Am I missing something here? It is vexing to say the least.

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All,
I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too
large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in
Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from
being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this?
Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but
others continuing to use a roaming profile? We

With samba-2.2.x the choice you have is to enable or disable roaming
profiles support. It is a global only setting. The default is to have
roaming profiles and

More roaming profile-Windows XP Data
Hello,
I have a Samba 3.0.2a PDC that I have joined server Windows XP machines to.
Joining the domain was painfully enough, but now I am having problems with
roaming profiles. We initially thought the problem was intermittent, but
we finally figured out that if the same user logs in again and again the
roaming profile is found and login proceeds normally. When a second user
attempts to

Re-2: SOLVED - idmap_rid / roaming profile permissions /NTAUTHORITY\SYSTEM
because the same samba fileserver will also have the home directories
for linux users!
According to the smb.conf man pages, the value auto will corretcly apply
case insensitivity for windows users, and case sensitive for the linux
users.
Of course I don't know what will happen if a linux user creates two
files with the same name and different case, and then logs in from a

Samba AD and roaming profile permissions
I'm running Samba 4.7.0 on FreeNAS 11.1-U2. It's configured as an Active Directory Domain Controller, and I'm trying to configure roaming profiles. I've created a profile dataset in ZFS that uses Windows permissions. I've configured the share and file system permissions as described in the "Using Windows ACLs" section of:

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello,
I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows
Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is
successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled
correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting
thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue
for Windows XP roaming

Roaming profile & f-secure problem
Hi,
are there any know problems with f-secure scanner and roaming profiles?
We have a lot of users with problems syncing their roaming profile from
the domain server. It seems to be a problem with f-secure's on-access
scanning (may be timeout problem?). Some users have to login three or
four times, before getting their roaming profile and not the default
profile.

roaming profile does not work for "Domain Admins"
Hello list,
I am facing an issue which I cannot explain myself. The roaming profiles don't work for users that are members of the group "Domain Admins". The [profiles] share on the member server was configured exactly as explained on the wiki for roaming profiles. It works like a charm for all domain users, *BUT*: if a user is member of the group "Domain Admins" it

Samba 2.2.3-Debian Roaming Profile Troubles
Hello,
I have been having some trouble getting roaming profiles to
work on my new samba domain. Actually, it works for some machines but
not others. First, the server is debian testing with samba "Version
2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian" and the smb.conf is this:
[global]
server string = calypso01
netbios name = calypso01
workgroup = Calypso

location of roaming profile
Why is it more secure to create a separate share for storing user profiles?
I've tested using:
[global]
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U
[profiles]
path = /var/lib/samba/profiles
And this works fine. But, why not just put the profile in the home
directory? I can see that a user might save a file on the desktop and
then not be able to find it. When I previously used roaming profiles

Help! Settings in roaming profile are not "sticking"
I'm reinstalling my Windows XP box. It has been on my home domain with a
roaming profile for some time. I had earlier problems with the roaming user
not able to log in at all but I can now log in using that account thanks to
deleting the samba cache.
The problem now is that settings in the roaming profile are not "sticking".
For example, the old profile has the "Coffee

XP client only uploads roaming profile to server after client is restarted
I have a number of XP clients which are configured to use roaming
profiles stored on a samba server (samba v. 3.0.24, Debian etch).
One client works perfectly, in that the roaming profile is always
downloaded at login and uploaded immediately at logout. This is true for
all users logging in on that client. Consequently I've no reason to
suspect the samba configuration or permissions.
