Problem with samba-pdc
I'm making a samba/pdc server with windows (2k e xp) clients. For now, that's ok, but I got some errors: - Some files (ex.: /home/silvana) don't show up in Windows Explorer. I've already checked on the server and all files of /home/silvana are into the server, but windows explorer don't show them. All the files are .doc. An interesting thing is that if we put the complete

Re: Samba - root preexec & login scripts
Last night at home, and on a second system today at work, I tried putting in the sample preexec statement contained in the smb.conf man page to check it's effect on the domain logons. Just like the preexec for the perl script it kills domain logons. As that script is right in the smb.conf man page I'd certainly expect that to work. As one final shot at this I'll post my smb.conf for

authentication, pam, etc.
Dear Samba folks, I very recently replaced our SGI Challenge S file server, which employed samba 2 to service Windows boxes, with an Intel Linux box running Fedora core 2 Linux with samba 3.0.3. When I connect to the server, it takes a number of *minutes* to get an authentication challenge window. After entering name and password, the connection proceeds, and shares are displayed normally.

Help with account mapping and guest
For public shares including the IPC$ share for browsing, a guest account was sufficient for access when user had no account on Unix box. With 2.06 however on my Solaris 2.7 box I can not seem to make the box browsable or public shares work for non account visitors. I have tried the guest = * entry in the map file, but than account that were already mapped get remapped to guest and local account

authentication problem with winXP
Hi, Here is my situation. I share several directories as public, and some other that must be read-write but with authentication (it does not matter is the client supplies the username or not, although it would be nice, but the password is essential as not everybody must have write permission). So what i first did was use the server with "security=user". WindowsXp does not see my shares

Samba 2.2.5 PDC doesn't trust Win2K Pro (really!)
Hello all, I have compiled samba 2.2.5 on SCO openserver 5.0.5 as a PDC. My Win9X clients have no problem accessing the shares and all is happy. However, Win2K clients can join the domain, I see the computer/machine account that automatically gets created in the smbpasswd file a-ok. After the win2k client joins the domain, and the client reboots, the client can't log in. I get this error

How do I stop the guest account printing?
Hi there. I've had Samba running fo a while now on a machine that we use as a shared file store. Not everyone who uses it has an account on the linux machine, so it's setup with "security = share" to allow guest access to some of the shares. But I've now attached a printer that I dont want guest access to. This might be something really simple that I'm missing, but I

cupsaddsmb
Hi all, I'm trying to add printers with cupsaddsmb on Samba 3.0.20 (Mandrake Linux) with an LDAP backend. I've followed the howto on the samba page and have the error: result was WERR_INVALID_PRINTER_NAME generated when I run it. So far I've Googled for the solution but nothing listed has helped. The full set of errors are as follows: Cupsaddsmb returns:
