Upgrading a Samba Domain
I am trying to upgrade our fully functional Samba domain from v3.0.2 to
v3.0.7 or v3.0.8. My question is, do I have to upgrade every server in
the domain in order for it to work or should I be able to upgrade one
server at a time, test it, and move on to the next server? Or should I
upgrade the domain controller first, then upgrade the member servers one
at a time?

Upgrading a Samba Domain - SOLVED!
I was able to resolve this issue. Just in case anyone is interested, I
HAD to upgrade the PDC FIRST. Then I was able to upgrade the member
servers without problems.

Domain member server with local users
Hi,
I'm trying to build a samba server that shall substitue one of our NT4
servers but I'm having some problems with setting up the local user account:
The NT4 server was member of a ressource domain (R1) and also had a local
user account named "bcd" which is needed for a boot-cd. Normal users
authenticated through the master domains M1 and M2 which has all the
necessary trusts

RES: Acess windows 2003 to samba 3.0.10
Hi Neo
I installed the samba 3.0.23.d, because I thought that it is a """""stable

Same error, same problem: "smbd/sesssetup.c:setup_new_vc_session()
setup_new_vc_session: New VC == 0, if NT4.x compatible we would ".
I tried to use your command: "/usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd -V Version 2.2.08a

Hi all, here's hoping you can help with a problem I have got.
I am currently running samba 3.0.7-1 on a Suse 9.0 system and I am having
the following problem.
I am trying to get my samba server to join a windows NT4 domain called
BVFL-DOM and then use winbind to get user names from that domain to be use

Samba BDC + LDAP failing to authenticate users
I have Samba 3.2.4 running on Solaris 10 from sunfreeware. From what I
can tell just recently happened to this server, which runs as a BDC +
LDAP. Previously I have been able to authenticate against it as well
as map drives from it. Though now it complains about no such user
exists, though they do.

NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE and non working winbind auth
Hi!
At work I have an Active Directory domain (Windows 2003) which has the
SFU schema extensions. Recently we set up all the Linux clients (SuSE
9.2) to authenticate using LDAP (nss_ldap). But the main thing is that
we added a Samba server (SuSE 9.0, samba 3.0.14a) to host the user's
homes (somewhere in the future, their Windows profiles too). This server
also has local LDAP

Joining a domain with a non-administrator account
I'm trying to set it up so I can join the domain with a regular user
that is part of the domain admin group. I have a user dsonenberg that
is in the domain admin group(512), but I can't join the domain with that
account. For the record I can login with that account and Administrator
can join the domain. The PDC has an LDAP backend. Here's the log.

linux 2.6 closing connections
Hello list!
Are there any known issues regarding samba3 - linux 2.6 kernels? I'm getting
disconnects every 20 seconds or so, both via cifs and smbfs mounts. This
occurs regardless of whether the connection is in use and sometimes leads to
I/O errors (even doing 'ls' on a mounted dir). It is not consistent though,
and seems to be triggered by high network traffic. When it is

WINS setup / browsing
I just successfully upgraded a server from v 2.2.8 to v3.0.7. When I
execute smbstatus or swat it correctly shows v 3.0.7. When I browse thru
network neighborhood it still shows v 2.2.8. I stopped samba, and removed
/usr/local/samba/var/locks/browse.dat & wins.dat. Then restarted samba. It
still reports v2.2.8 thru network neighborhood. In viewing browse.dat it
shows 2.2.8. Where is this

Samba/LDAP Win 7 unable to access shares

details) but cannot see any shared resources or connect to the machine at
all. Logs show tings start ok but fall apart pretty quickly. Anyone else
having issues with Win7 and Samba? On this network, XP, Vista and Mac all
swell :) Any pointers?

Problem: samba refuse my user with error message : NT_STATUS_NO_ SUCH_USER
Hi all,
I'm trying to make samba authenticate to my Active Directory
Domain. I already configured and tested Kerberos5 and joined my machine to
my domain with no problems, getent passwd and group give me the correct
output also wbinfo give a good output too, and I can logon using my domain
user to SSH and to my server console, so I assume my Kerberos config is
correct. Also I

Samba and LVM
I've recently set up an Openfiler 2.2 system, with a few disks under md
(RAID6), LVM on top of that, and formatted ext3. When snapshots are in
use, large file transfers (transfers of large files, or transfers of
many smaller ones) are disconnected - Leaving a Windows 2000 client with
an error like 'The network resource is no longer available'.
Re-trying works, but cuts out again
