Suse 9.2/Samba 3.0.8 question
I just updated Samba on a PC to 3.0.8. The PC is running a recent upgrade
to SuSE 9.2 Pro.
Before upgrading the Network Browing worked fine, particularly the Windows
Network browsing. Since upgrading to 3.0.8 yesterday, whenever I try to do
that I get the following errors:
"An error occurred while loading smb:/:

Not creating home directory for domain member at KDE login
I've added the pam changes that use winbind to authenticate users against
the domain controller. I see all of the domain users in the graphical
login, but when a user logs in who hasn't logged in before, the new home
directory (/etc/DOMAIN/<userid>) isn't either being created or it's being
created with permissions that don't allow files to be written under the user
id.

Acts As Authenticated - smarter login box
Hi,
I''ve got AAA loaded and working. I now want to put a smarter login form
on the sidebar of my site.
If the user is not logged in, I''d like to display a typical form in the
sidebar that collects the user ID/password and allows the user to login.
If the user is logged in, the box should display something like ''Logged
in user: FirstName Lastname'' and a

Thanks for the answer Nick. Now you got me on a chase through FunctionAttrs.cpp
trying to find out what analysis passes "... which answers no to everything", means. :-)

gtkpod
High and low searching (google, most of the repos in
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories) availed nothing - has
anyone found a repo for gtkpod on centos-6? I seem to recall having to use
fedora packages at some time in the past. Bit loath to do that again or compile
from source.
Thanks

Capistrano / developing on win32 / deplyoying on Linux
Hi,
I''m new at rails and am in the midst of deploying my first app to a test
server. The app was developed on windows. I used Capistrano to deploy,
and found a few issues:
1) I must chmod 755 dispatch.cgi each time I deploy
2) script/parse/reaper also doesn''t have the executable attributes so
the deployment fails.
3) database.yml as checked out from svn isn''t

Capistrano /usr/bin/env: ruby: no such file or directory
Hi,
I''m deploying to a prod linux server via Capistrano, but the last step,
running the reaper, won''t complete.
Ruby is stored in /usr/local/bin on the server, and I''m deploying from
winxp.

Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and 1TB Seagate Barracuda ES.2
Hi all,
I''m getting a very strange problem with a recent OpenSolaris b134 install.
System is:
Supermicro X5DP8-G2 BIOS 1.6a
2x Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 1.0b
11 Seagate Barracuda 1TB ES.2 ST31000340NS drives
If I have any of the 11 1TB Seagate drives plugged into the controller,
the AOC-SAT2-MV8 BIOS appears to detect them just fine, but I get the
following problems:
1. Grub takes a

I want to build a rails backed site which, in addition to some dynamic

process identification
I am running CentOS 6.5. I know this is not a CentOS specific problem.
Netstat shows several open ports and no pid.

tcp 0 0 *:43422 *:* LISTEN -
udp 0 0 *:50216 *:* -
How can I identify what application is using these ports?

Now the test for the Vertex 2 Pro. This was fun.
For more explanation please see the thread "Crucial RealSSD C300 and cache
flush?"
This time I made sure the device is attached via 3GBit SATA. This is also
only a short test. I''ll retest after some weeks of usage.

FreeBSD not-so-stable
I have a FreeBSD 4.8-Release machine that I upgraded from a 4.5 or 4.4
machine. It works just great for about 9 days, then processes will not
die. It starts to become a problem when I can't kill processes, restart
services, connections hang, and I can't reboot or shutdown, I have to do
a hard reset.
I can't really find anything in the logs to indicate what is giving me
