Preventing deletion of folders under a SAMBA share
I am trying to set up a basic Samba server and configure it so that
folders under a share cannot be deleted accidentally by a user. The
ideal scenario would be to have the top-level folders under the share
non-deleteable, but folders and files are able to be created under it.
I cannot find any easy way of doing this directly, but thought that the
use of the 'veto' option would work

Samba share to access windows folders in linux.
Hi,
I am trying to access folders on a windows system on a linux system using
the command,
smbmount '//a.b.c.d/CCViews/abcd/abcd_Linux_dev' '/root/pqrs/LinuxDev' -o
username=abcd/<domain>,uid=abcd,gid=abcd
This prompts for a password and I give the correct domain password here. It
gives me the error:

Windows XP Pro cannot access Samba
My WXPP PC cannot login to the Samba server although the Win2K and W9x
PC's can. The XPP system has joined the domain, but when I rebooted the
PC and tried logging in via the domain it complained about not having
permission or an account which I've verified and have redone several
times, but still I cannot login.
Anyone have any information on how to fix this.

Samba client configuration.
Hi,
I am posting this on the list after 2 weeks of frustrating efforts
to get my XP home machine to talk to the Samba server on my SuSE 9.2
Linux box. Described below is the crux of the problem.
When I do an smbclient on the Linux box I can see the Windows machine
listed. However, when I do a net view on the Windows XP Home machine I
do not see the Samba box. Also, I get a System 1 error on

File case sensitivity
Hi;
I've run into a somewhat interesting issue in regards to IIS serving
content from a samba share. Occasionly, IIS will return 404 errors for
content that does infact exist.

Problems with roaming profiles // Samba 3.0.7 from Sernet
Dear List,
we are currently using Samba 3.0.4 (rpm from Sernet -
http://ftp.sernet.de/pub/samba/) on SuSE 8.2 with XP SP2-clients.
The problem is: When we try to upgrade to Samba 3.0.7, the clients can't
load the users profile, the error message says, that it can't find the
path (though it works well for 3.0.4).
Here is a snippet of the error messages in log.smb with log level 4:

Participation on Samba lists
Luke Leighton (lkcl) has brought up his arguments about control
of Samba before. In October 2000 they resulted in the creation
of a new Samba code branch, samba-tng, which Luke and others who
agreed with his direction were free to do with as they will.
Samba-tng still exists, and we in the Samba Team still wish it
well, but what we can't continue to put up with is Luke still

Samba on AIX, issues setting read-only flag on files through Windows Explorer?
Hello list :)
I am having issues setting the "read-only" flag via Windows Explorer on my AIX Samba share and I was hoping someone out there would be able to point me into the right direction to solving this issue...
I have on my AIX 7.1 system installed Samba 3.6.24 and configured, joined to our Windows domain successfully.
The samba binaries I got from perzl.org/aix

smb mount as root, access as non-root. Changed behaviour between samba 3.0.x and 3.4.x?
Hi List,
I have an appliance ("the client") which mounts a CIFS share from a
Samba server - the Samba server usually runs on an Ubuntu system.
Within the client, the root user executes a mount command like this:
mount.cifs \\UBUNTUSERVER\archive /tmp/Default \
-o noserverino,user='someuser',pass='somepassword',uid='50',gid='7'
That uid/gid pair

share is read-only since 3.0.3 - "access is denied"
Hi,
I've a samba-3.0.2a running perfectly on redhat-8.
Filesystem is EXT3 with ACL support.
I can't upgrade the PDC to 3.0.3 or 3.0.4, because shares are only
read-only.
In 3.0.3 only home share and temp share are writable.
All other shares are in read-only mode. Users can see the files/directories,
but can't save anything or create new items.
When trying to create a new item -

msdfs root -- client error "refers to a location that is unavailable"
I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.28 to work as an MS Dfs root providing a share
that links home directories to the actual servers they reside on.
Unfortunately, when I access the share from a Windows XP client, and try to
open one of the directories, the client gives an error that it "refers to a
location that is unavailable".
I've done a lot of searching, and found a number of

: Win XP Client does not remove directories
Hello mailinglist,
I have a strange problem, which occurs sometimes on some WinXP clients.
It is not 100% reproducable for me, but it returns regular.
The problem is, that somehow a user can't delete a directory. All files
in the directory will be removed successfully, but the directory itself
not.
Deleting with the Explorer or over the cmd-console returns in the same
result.

Hello,
I'm running Samba 3.6.6-1 on my x64 Arch Linux installation. I recently
decided to have my samba share support NTFS's Alternate Data Streams by
using streams_xattr or streams_depot. With streams_xattr I discovered that
if I copy a file having an ADS from a win7 box, on the linux console, I can
see the ADS as an xattr attached to the file. However when I copy the file

continuous access to printer causes high memory usage
Hi list,
I am trying to track down a printer-related problem.
The most important symptom is a smbd process using almost all memory on
my machine (up to 800 MB, at the specific case of which I've posted the
logs.) At some point the VM will kill the smbd process, freeing the memory.
Apart from this, samba keeps on running fine.
Investigation of a level 3 debug log of this process has shown
