Error when trying to print with point and print installed drivers
I have an Ubuntu Sever 9.10 setup running Samba as a PDC for a bunch of
Windows clients.
Everything is functioning perfectly except for the point and print delivery
of printer drivers.
I have tested this with Ubuntu 9.10's Samba (3.4.0) and two of the Debian
Samba packages (3.4.3 and 3.4.5). All seem to demonstrate the same problem.

Hard time installing printers 3.4.8
Hello, been googling this for a while. Read GD's presentation on why
printing is such a pain...
Anyway, I'm using 3.4.8 on Freebsd 8.1 I've tried a few combinations -
best luck is with 3.2.5, but I'd like to move forward a bit.
So, I've got the ADS part working pretty good. happy with how that's going.
my problem is when I attempt to load printer drivers.

XP Pro client cannot access stand-alone linux samba server
Hi, I am trying to set up my internet connection sharing linux box as a
stand-alone samba server. When i try to access the server from a
Windows XP Pro client using \\192.168.0.1 i get a dialog box asking for
a username and password. I duly enter this and the dialog box
immediately re-appears without connecting me to the share. There exists
both a samba and linux account with the same

XP will no longer download print drivers
We're using Cups and Samba with Adobe Postscript Drivers to print from XP SP2
machines via our Solaris and Linux Domain Controllers. Everything has been
working OK, but when I setup an a new printer (identical ppd file to another
one), it doesn't download the drivers on XP when I add the printer.
This is happening on two domain controllers in different offices.
It gives the error when

Hello to everyone,

Changing file permissions in Windows XP with a samba PDC
Question about changing file permissions in Windows XP when running
samba as a PDC.
If you hit Properties and go to the security tab, instead of listing
the proper group/user names it lists the full SID.
Is there a way to get Windows XP to map these to the proper user/group names?
I am using LDAP as a backend with Samba.
Thanks.

Setting up Point 'n' Print
I am having some problems with uploading printer drivers. I follow the
procedures as outlined in both TOSHARG and Samba-3 by Example, and I use the
Add Printer Drivers Wizard to upload the drivers. It looks OK, and the
drivers make into the \\server\print$\W32X86\3 directory. But when I click
okay, I get "Printer settings could not be saved. Access is denied." This
happens when

Extremely slow during browsing some directories
hi,
I am quite new on using Samba and sorry maybe ask a silly question here. I
set up simple Samba server on Fedora3 using the samba rpm package comes with
fedora3( version 3.0.10-1.fc3). I use the SHARE security level to make
things easier. Everything goes fine so far, except that for some windows
user, some times, on browsing some directories, it takes extremely long time

The '<printer name>' printer driver is not installed on this computer
Hello everybody,
I'm using CUPS 1.1.19 and Samba 2.2.8a on SuSE Linux 9.0 (I'm using SuSE's
pre-built packages). Samba is running as a domain controller and the
workstations are running Windows XP Professional. I manually installed
cups-samba 1.1.19 Windows printer drivers because SuSE doesn't supply
them.
I've got three printers on the network which I would like to print on

Hi,
I've also got problems downloading drivers from samba to a windows client.
I'm running Debian Samba 3.0.7-1, and Cupssys 1.1.20final
My Windows Client is a Win2KPro.
I succesfully installed my printers with Cups and they work fine under
Linux, and from remote cups clients.
I've been trying to follow the samba docs on serving postscript drivers

Samba Point-and-install driver location problems
Hi,
I'm trying to configure my Samba server to support Point-and-install
driver installation of a CUPS printer (the printer works with Samba when
Point-and-install is not configured, and the driver is installed
manually on Windows XP). I've gone through the actual configuration
process, and am able now to just install the printer on Windows XP
machines via the Samba-supplied driver.

Getting Windows XP drivers from print$
Hi list
I have two very similar printers set up on CUPS and Samba is configured
to share the drivers. I had been playing around with setting up a RAW
printer queue with native Windows drivers but eventually gave up on
that. I deleted all printers and redid them from scratch and now only
one of them works.
Setup:

storing of roaming profile fails
Hi list,
a strange problem occurs in samba 3.0.8 (Debian 3.0.8-2 package):
When a Domain-User tries to log off (WinXP SP2), the workstation fails
to store the profile in the PROFILE-Path.
The message "cannot store \\SERVER\Profiles\Administrator\Recent" pops up.
But this is only the half truth.
The directory for the user (f.e. Administrator) is been created.
A few files are copied

Point and print drivers install from a Win2000 box
Hello, all !
I'm setting up a print server with Samba and Cups. All goes fine, until I
try to upload the drivers from a Win2000 box to the Samba server: The
driver files are copied to the correct directory ([PRINT$]/W32X86/...),
and everyone seems to be happy... Until I click on the "OK" button: I
then get a message saying:

After uploading the print drivers from w2k and pressing OK or Apply...
or selecting this printer from the uploaded drivers and pressing OK and

fill up with the messages below. The general idea is, it opens the 15
files that were uploaded for the drivers. Then reopens and closes each
one, then closes them all. This process

Samba Print Problem (Everything Looks Right)
I'm trying to get Samba to print with CUPS and the universal postscript
driver. I've followed the HOWTO at
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/CUPS-printing.html
(a truely great work, IMO). However, I cannot get a WinXP or Win2K
machine to automatically install the driver when I double-click on the
printer after browsing the share.

Samba 3b3, cups117 and point-n-click blues. Looks like Samba bug? HELP! part 2
I've attempted to do the same using Win2k's APW. At
first it looks like it's going to work, but at the
very last part it gives an access denied error. It
gives the errors AFTER it copies all the files to the
server...

Fedora, Cups, print$, and Windows XP - Oh my :) Round 2 - FIGHT
Hello from Canada!
I'm posting again about a problem I posted about in February, I'll repost
the message here, with updated information. When I read that it was a
possible/probably bug with Samba, I decided to wait a while and see if it
wasn't hashed out by now. It doesn't appear to be fixed (or I messed up).
Anyways, here is the information with updates. A "*" indicates

I set it up thru the graphical printer configuration utility.
