Windows XP login
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 When WinXP users login to the samba domain a text file opens that contains: [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787 This seems to be tied to the roaming profile, it only surfaced once I enabled roaming profiles but I am not sure how to correct it. Error copying folder with desktop.ini
Hi, I have some issues to copy a folder which includes hidden desktop.ini to a samba share using Windows 8 Pro RTM. Every time I copy a folder which contains a desktop ini with the LocalizedResourceName attribute, then Windows copies the file and immediately tries to copy the file again and therefore asking whether the file shall be replaced or not. My desktop.ini is copied from a Windows 8

Beating a dead horse - Roaming profiles / logon scripts
Using samba 3.0.8 and Suse ES 9.0 I'm having problems getting roaming profiles/local profiles and logon scripts on a Win2k or WinXP workstation working correctly. My bdc is supposed to be doing the authentication against my PDC\LDAP server. Even when I enable Only allow local profiles on the XP machine it will logout a domain samba user with a sorry no roaming or local profile available

slow access while crossmounting samba
Hi, I've got two linux machines with the same distribution and samba 3 that cross-mounts a share (i.e., machine a mounts a share of machine b and vice versa). I'm experiencing slow access from the machines to the opposite mounted share and I don't know what this slow performance can be due to. I'm not running with oplocks cause the share is accessed only by the other linux

invisible server
Hi, I've got a few samba server in my network, but one of them is "invisible". I cannot do a nmblookup on it (even from the server itself), but I cannot telnet the port 137, thus it should not be a problem of firewall. From windows xp machines, I can connect specifying the IP address, while from win98 machines I cannot (I got an error like network name does not exist). The

windows program over a samba share
Hi, I don't know if this is possible, but I'd like to install a window program (in the specific JBuilder Personal) over a samba share, and then to mount a network share as a disk from windows clients, so they can use the program. Is it possible? Any idea on how to share windows programs from a linux server? Thanks, Luca -- Luca Ferrari, fluca1978@infinito.it

Roaming profiles
I want to setup a linux box with samba as a file and print server for a LAN of 20 NT 4.0 SP3 workstations. I want the home direcotories to be on the server the clients to have roaming profiles. For this, do I have to make the linux box a domain controller? I want to avoid it if I can, because the domain control code in not on the production releases. I don't want to setup an NT server either.

Interpreting desktop.ini
Hi, I'm coping with the interpretation of the desktop.ini on samba shares, as I have an application, which requests these desktop.ini files to alter the folder-icon (besides the windows explorer). I've seen in the archive many posts how to avoid accessing these files, I now am in the situation, in which i need the desktop.ini files interpreted: In every subdirectory a desktop.ini file

samba slow and several "Write andx Request"
Hi all, I'm running version 3.0.28a on Ubuntu linux, and apparently from a day to another I got performance issues: without any change in smb.conf (except a few added shares) I have mac osx and linux clients getting a very slow upload/download speed. I've checked with other protocols, like scp and performances are good, so I can exclude a network/hardware problem. Other clients are
