LDAP/Samba issues when replacing server
I hope that someone can let me know what I have done wrong. I need to replace and existing server (server1) with a new server (server2). Server1 is currently running LDAP/Samba (3.0.14). Profiles stored in /opt/samba/profiles I installed all of the pieces, and LDAP works (mostly, I have an issue, see below) I ran net getlocalsid DOMAINNAME on server1 used the SID value in net setlocalsid

Not all users listed in 'Select Users or Groups'
When I try to add users or groups in Win2K via the Security tab -- Select Users or Groups, not all users or groups are displayed. Any account created since 1 January isn't showing up. I patched the Win2K server just before this date. All accounts that were creaated prior to this date still appear. On the Linux system which is acting as the Samba PDC (and is using ldap), pdbedit -l

Migrate SMB/LDAP to new server
I need to migrate my current LDAP/SMB PDC to a new server. I found the information on how to replace an existing server with a new system with the same name, but in my case, I still need the existing system to continue as a slave LDAP/SMB BDC. I used slapcat to get the ldap database, and then used this ldif to create the new ldap database on the new server. Linux logins work fine. I used

Default User not used correctly?
I have a very bizarre issue with Default User. I am running the latest version of Samba. I have created the netlogon share, and have added a Default User profile to it. I have Windows Server 2003 member server that is part of the domain. The exact same Default User profile is also located in Documents and Settings on this 2003 server. However, when users log on for the first time, sometimes

Cannot join Windows XP Pro to new Samba 4 AD
I have upgraded my Samba3+LDAP system to Samba 4 following the instructions given here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/samba-tool/domain/classicupgrade/HOWTO I did this on a test server (so I also moved the ldap database, installed openldap, etc). The installation passes all the simple tests suggested here:

Big problem with roaming profiles
Hello everyone! I'm facing a big problem with the samba server I just set up: System: FreeBSD 5.4 Samba ver: 3.0.20 (previuosly 3.0.12) Client(s): Windows XP Professional I configured the server to make use of roaming profiles. I was able to copy local profiles to the server, to login and voila - got my desktop. Also after creating a new user, the new profile gets copied to the server,

AW: Big problem with roaming profiles
I had the same problem. We used samba 3.0.14 and upgraded to 3.0.20 After that profile were not loaded anymore. Th problen you are discribing looks like Windows is loading the local copy of your profile and after you deleted it it tries to load the profile from samba and fails. I found out that we had problems with "profile acls = Yes" wich was needed by the earlier samba releases.

Samba and Vista profile probs
Yes, if you're using roaming profiles Vista will automatically accept your login (if your PDC is configured correctly, check the firewall on the clients and server also, write/read access to the profile for the current user, but i guess these things were already said here but I'm only replying to your last question without having read most of the rest) The profile is not needed to be

Vista roaming profiles...
Hi everybody, after many weeks of searching/trying, I still can't manage to get vista to use/save roaming profiles with samba as PDC... It has apparently worked a few times in the beginning since the profiles directories are populated. Could it be related to a Vista update or SP1? Here's what I did so far: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]

how to abort when can't write to the destination?
Dear Rsyncers, I'm trying to maintain a mirror of Ubuntu distribution and I had a cron job which rsynced it every night. The problem came after last reboot a few days ago -- destination directory wasn't mounted, thus wasn't accessible by rsync for writing: rsync: failed to set times on "/share/ubumirror/.": Operation not permitted (1) rsync: recv_generator: mkdir

Samba 3.6.23 and Windows 7
After being content with an old laptop running XP for years, my job decided to provide me with a shiny new one running Windows 7 Professional. The biggest problem with this is that I can't get the Windows 7 box to login to my Samba NT4-style domain controller. I have upgraded samba from 3.0.33 to 3.6.23, and copied my smbpasswd file to where the new samba expects to find it in

rsync stalls -- sleeps indefinetly
Dear Developers First of all I would love to thank you for a nice tool I had been using rsync within backuppc project to backup my remote hosts. It had been working fine until the moment (as I think) whenever I moved RAID to another box and now the source directory (/raid/research) is now actually NFS mounted. Now backup (rsync process) stalls and sleeps indefinitely On the backup server:

Samba - slow performance
Hello, We have a small setup where we write files on a Windows system to a samba mounted location coming from a linux system. This linux system has NVME disks and 10gige connections. We are getting slow write performance and our setup should be able to get better write speeds. I am attaching our config files and hoping someone can assist with tuning our smb.conf for getting better performance:

DomainDnsZones inbound replication issue
Here's my edited smb.conf and the output of the testparm. As you can see I'm not setting that in my smb.conf and it appears to be turned on by default in Samba 4.4.4. I was going to update Samba on DC1 to 4.4.4 as well, but haven't done that yet. It's currently on 4.2.3. Should I upgrade that as well before changing anything else? Thanks! Roaming profiles not being loaded
I tried to build a setup to model and hence learn how to configure samba servers for the setup that I described below. However, a user login in which the profile is defined to be on a samba server that is not the PDC never gets a roaming profile -- instead the user always gets a temporary profile. Looking at the Windows logs, it is complaining about a permissions issue. However, once logged in
