AW: Permissions problem with 3.0.8
We use LDAP backend and Linux 2.6.
It happens only --with-acl-support.
This 2 errors I found in the level 10 log when I try to copy a fresh copied
file a second time on itself (permissions of test file are -r-xrw----, user
and group match)
Maybe the attribute mapping goes another path with acl support?
3.0.7 works fine.

Trying Samba 3.0.6
Hi Guys,
I am trying samba 3.0.6 for the moment, but I found some issues sometime.
When I try to create a new file, I get error 'Unable to create the file 'New
Text Document'. The specified network name is no longer available", though I
found actually that file is created on the server. Also I checked the
process of forked smbd, it exited and a new connection is created.

3.0.14a and Windows Server 2003 SP1
Hi, O Wise Ones,
I have a number of machines running samba on Fedora 3 as member servers
of a windows domain. They authenticate with Active Directory on the
Windows PDC (Windows Server 2003 as part of Small Business Server 2003)
and provide file and print sharing services. All has been working
perfectly for months.
When I applied SP1 for Windows Server 2003, authentication stopped
working.

File attribute problem 3.0.23
We have a problem with an application that clears the archive bit before
writing and sets it after writing.
The latter one doesn't succeed if the writer != file owner.
Dos filemode is enabled and manually setting is fine.
Samba is 3.0.23RC3.
Client is XP/SP2.
Seems to loose the connection before setting the bit and a new smbd is
spawn.

knit and smbclient executed with different users but no error thrown
Hi Paul,
I think -U is just ignored when -k and a valid ticket is available.
Here you have a valid ticket, you use -k to ask smbclient to use
credentials from that ticket, and you add -U for another user.
Please try same smbclient command without -k, it should ask you the
password for test123 user.
That's not a bug, for me it is a lack of documentation on how to use -k
switches with almost

Cannot share MSAccess DB after upgrade 3.0.5 to 3.0.8
This is really strange.
The samba server in question is a domain member server
on a Windows NT 4.0 Domain network. It runs Gentoo
2004.3 with a 2.4.24 kernel.
The Gentoo server was upgraded from Samba 3.0.5 to
3.0.8 last night. After the upgrade, the server had
to be re-joined to the domain. After that, everything
appeared to be working.
This morning we found that the MSAccess database files

knit and smbclient executed with different users but no error thrown
Hi,
I am using different users while executing kinit and smbclient as shown
below, but I am not getting any error. How can a initial ticket granted to
one user can be used for another user. Can you give some clarification. I
am not an expert hence this doubt. I am using win 2003 AD.

Authenticating users via samba to an active directory
Chaps,
Got a small problem here that I could do with some help with.
I am looking at implementing 802.1X wired based network authentication
here and am using a RADIUS server called Radiator as the primary
authentication mechanism. Radiator has an authentication module that'll
allow user auth to an active directory via components of the samba
suite. The requirement is that the host samba

Hi,
I am a new user and tried at least some of the recommended ways to find
an answer to my question (search the net, ask IT professionals). But
when everything fails nothing beats newsgroups...
Here is my problem. I compiled rsync 2.6.2 on a Tru64 v5.1b system. I am
trying to use rsync to backup data to a NFS mounted disk outside our
immediate local network. Needless to say that rsync works

Problems joining a RHEL4.0 version of samba to an active directory
Chaps,
I'm trying to join a RHEL 4.0 Linux server to an active directory
domain. The server in question runs a RADIUS server and I need it to be
able to authenticate users via AD.
Basically when we try running
net ads join member -I 150<an ip address> -U <admin user> -d 2
we get

Theora and OLPC
Hi guys,
My name is Adir. I'm a Google Summer of Code student, and in addition to
that I will be working both with Xiph.org and with OLPC on optimizing
Theora's performance.
I'm in the list to get a shiny B4, but at the moment I can't do anything
since sending the laptop to my place involves some difficulties. Until I get
the laptop, I would like to hear from any of you, XO users

Agradeceros de antemano vuestro tiempo y paciencia ya que soy un poco

problems with samba 3 and termnal server
hello folks
dont know if this is a faq:
a customer currently uses a Suse 9.2 pro with the last version of Samba to
share a folder containing data for an Enterprise Management program (Windows

everything works fine with local clients (many 98s and 1 XP machine).
we have some (15) clients connecting to the ERP program via a Terminal Server
