Fwd: net rpc lookup from group names that start with "-"
Hi Rowland,
I'm not good at betting :p
I didn't meant to be rough answering that. My point was the same as for the
difference between advising to run ./configure or ./configure --help: give
users information for they deal with issue themselves. That's why I took
time to explain these behaviours, with errors as shown below.
Now if it works it's because Samba is well developed, or

pdbedit syntax for forcing user to change password
Hi all
Maybe a stupid question, but I'm not able to figure this out from the
manpage nor from the HOWTOs...
How can I force a user to change his password at next logon?
I tried:
# pdbedit -P "user must logon to change password" -C 0 -u username
# pdbedit -u username -P "user must logon to change password" -C 0
# pdbedit -P "user must logon to change password"

username map
Hello!
I want to permit the root account to be called administrator from the win
clients in my network. Therefore I have added 'root = administrator' in my
/etc/samba/smbusers. I have also added 'username map = /etc/samba/smbusers'
in smb.conf. When I try to log on as administrator from a windows client I
get a message that the user does not exist.
I am running samba 3 on

ldap configuration oddity
Hey, I am totally confused/lost/confused getting this config working.
I am trying to get samba to authenticate against LDAP. After reading a
bunch of docs I generated the config at the end.
When I run testparm against it I get:
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
Unknown parameter encountered: "ldap server"

compiling libldap error??
Samba experts,
Ok, we are having so many problems getting ldap to work, we decided to
start over with our compile. We are compiling Samba --with-ldap on our AIX
5.1 system which uses gcc. Openldap (for client support) exists in
/usr/local/openldap/2.2.17. In order for Samba to find the ldap.h file,
we had to configure with
CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/openldap/2.2.17/include"

Antwort: RE: password expiration
I have a patch that enables "user password timeout" for 2.2.2. It works
only for WinNT, Win2000 (tested and Samba on AIX and Linux) and I think
with WinXP. It does not work with Win9x.
You can download the patch from
http://www.m-wohlfarth.de/Downloads/Samba/samba.html.
I never had the problem with automatically expiring password as described
in the originating message - I couldn't

segfault during net rpc printer migrate drivers
Hi
I am trying to migrate an old printserver from one samba4 (4.8.11 on
CentOS-6) server to a newer one (4.11.2 on CentOS-8)
using
net rpc printer migrate all
The migration of queue, forms, securitty, settings works, during the
migration of the drivers (net rpc printer migrate drivers)? the command
dumps core at the first driver
Here a level10 output

Option "password never expires" does not work correctly
We have set option "password never expires" for a user with "pdbedit -u
username -c "[X]"". The user must not change his password, but gets a
message, that "Password expires today. Do you want to change". This is
confusing.

Fwd: net rpc lookup from group names that start with "-"
Hi ,
Thank you for your input. I have had tried all of the escape characters you
have have tested with but I have had no luck with them. I am curious to
know which versions of net have you been tested with?
I do agree that the best practice for this is to remove "-" from the
beginning of the object name, However, seeing that it can be created that
way allowed, I would like to find a

Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
Within a real windows 2008 Domain it ist he same behaviour. Even there you need the clients to reboot.
This feature got lost after the beta status of samba 4. I had a test environment with the first betas and it worked there without any issue. Even mapping the shares by domain
worked: \\my.domain\share. Test this with the new versions, it will fail. (only netlogon will do).
Would be fine samba

Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
The only way this would work out oft he box would be to ctdb (custer) samba4 dcs! So one dc is down the logged on users are transfered to the next without great delay. But status now this is not possible for dcs, only for member servers.

net rpc rights problem with groups
Hello List,
I have tried to grant SeMachineAccountPrivilege to an extra group.
Users in this group should not have Admin rights but they should be able to join workstations to the domain.
My first try was to grant the right to a single user wich is working as expected.
net rpc rights grant "TOPTEST\toptest.r" SeMachineAccountPrivilege -U domainadmin
net rpc rights shows:

I have tried for several accounts (below is one of them),
"net ads" always reports less 1 item than "net rpc"? (The result of "net

Any hints?
Thanks in advance.

RPC Authentication Error
Hi,
Some time back I had written to the list about integrating Cisco ISE and
facing errors with RPC login. When we actually integrated using ISE
2.4.0357 we noticed that Kerberos authentication is working like a
charm. But MS-RPC authentication throws error.
From the samba logs, we noticed that ISE workstation is able to
negotiate the RPC ports switch to higher Dynamic RPC ports,

net rpc user info shows different output depending on -U switch
Hi,
I'm debugging a problem with an user account which should have domain
admin privileges. I've found out that "net rpc user info" shows
different output depending on the -U switch:
(Running as root)

subzero:~# net rpc user info admin -U s7admin

s7admin is a working domain admin. Benutzer is german
