charset problem with smbmount
Hi! I have a test file with all special characters of hungarian language on a windows share: ??????????????????.txt (I hope Your mailer wiill show them correctly :-)) When I use smbclient to connect to share, I see correct characters, I can get the file to local disk and ls shows the correct name too. Windows 2000/2003 shares -> danish character problem.
Hello all. I have been given an assignment to mount a share automatically for each user using a given Linux machine (Mandrake 10 in this case). This is working fine, thanks to pam_mount, BUT: The mounted share contains national characters like this: ? ? ?. The problem I'm having is that when I mount these on Linux the '?' looks like 'o' but cannot be accessed like that. It

Help request from non-expert: mounting a samba drive with the right charset for accented filenames
Hi all, I hope someone might be able to offer me some advice. I have a NAS box, a QNAP TS-109 which runs a version of Debian Linux. It has a local ext3 drive, and I also smbmount a network drive on it (a Lacie ED mini which I have tried formatted as both ext3 and FAT32 without solving my problems). My problem is that I am unable to correctly rsync files with accented characters in the names

codepage-conversion for smbclient
Hi list, I've browsed through the archives, but I didn't find a answer for this: I use smbclient to access a windowsNT 4.0 server. I get only '?' for filenames which contains Umlauts. F.e., a file called "Verkn?pfung" is displayed as "Verkn?pfung". I use following mount-string: mount.smbfs //SERVER/Share /home/xxx -o rw noexec nosuid nodev user codepage

incomplete smbmount smbfs Win98SE iso8859-1 translation in kernel 2.4.18
I'm getting only partial iso8859-1 translation from an smbfs mount from my Win98SE machine. The smbfs mounted file system shows most lower-case accented characters fine; but, it substitutes underscores for most of the upper-case accented characters (and a few lower-case ones too): # uname -a Linux elm 2.4.18-8.1mdkian3 #7 Sat Aug 17 15:19:44 EDT 2002 i686 unknown (Mandrake 8.2 Linux with all

Wrong charset when mounting WindowsXP shares
Hello, I don't seem to be able to mount a WindowsXP share with smbmount and get the correct charset. From what I understand Win2000/XP use UTF-8 for SMB shares, so I tried to mount with -o iocharset=utf8 but it did not make any difference. All extended characters are messed up or truncated. Here is what I found out using filenames with a '?': When I mount a

Re: Rsync with smbfs filesystem and character s like é - updated from version on RSync List
Unfortunately that didn?t work for me! I think there may be a bug somewhere although its possible that I have done something wrong somewhere. My reason for saying this is everything works perfectly when the windows machine is "uploading" the files but not when rsync is copying them. Filenames with "special" characters (äöü€¶) on SMB share of Linkstation HD-HLAN250
Hello! I've got a Buffalo Linkstation HD-HLAN250. This is a consumer NAS device, which makes the built-in HD accessible via SMB and FTP. On that system, some sort of Linux with some sort of Samba is running. I'm now trying to create filenames with special characters (ie. non-ASCII chars) in it. For example "bl?der name" (means "stupid name"). To get access to the

smbmount codepage / iocharset problem w/ W2k
Hi: I have written to this list once before regarding the same problem. (ref smbmount problem on 03/28/2005) Paul Gienger sugested asking the "kernel boys" as they maintain smbmount. Maybe my problem wasn't deserving of a reply from them, maybe I subscribed to the wrong list. Can someone suggest a kernel list where I may get a useful reply? smbclient's ftp like interface

Hungarian codepage problem using smbmount
Dear Samba Developers, Dear Urban, This was my original letter. I hope you get it correctly this time. Maybe it was too big, now I reduced the size of this letter. My goal is to make a Linux fileserver up and running with automatic archiving functionality in a mixed Windows 2000 - Linux network and since the beginning of February I could not solve my problem, so I write to you hoping that you

smbmount codepage/iocharset settings vs NT4
Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a backup server for a somewhat antiquated NT4 server. Backup server is CentOS-4 (~ RHEL-4), kernel-2.6.9-11.EL, samba-client-3.0.10-1.4E, rsync-2.6.3-1, LANG=en_US.UTF-8. NT4 shares are mounted on the server and rsynced to local disk. This setup is working pretty well, however on the NT box there are some files with names containing odd characters like

no forwardtick in filename?
I can't use a ? (forward tick, accent acute) in a filename on a samba share. Is this an error or intention? If i copy a file with ? to the samba share the result will be, the tick will be converted to a capital Z with back and forward tick on it and the rest of the filename is dropped. samba 3.01rc1 [global] dos charset = CP850 unix charset = ISO8859-15 display charset = LOCALE [raid2]
