NetBios problem with Samba 2.x
I'm in a bit of a pickle, and I need some help. I'm forced to disable netbios on any machine that leaves the company because of how MS Exchange works over a VPN. I have Samba 2.x on two Compaq Tru64 5.x machines, each with one (public) share. With netbios enabled, the client machines can access the share with no issues. With netbios disabled, I get something like "No network

ldap and computer accounts
I'm attemtping to configure a Ubuntu server for a bunch of windows clients. I'd like the authentication information to be in ldap.So far the stuff works, I can authenticate users in LDAP just fine. But when I want a windows machine to join the domain I get the error 'The user name could not be found'. The computer account gets created (via smbldap-tools) and I can see it in the

join domain - ou=people searched for machine accounts?
When I try to join a domain from a win2k client to a samba 3.0.5 PDC, I get the message "User not found". I use ldapsam, which works fine in all other respects. The strange thing is that the smbldap-useradd scripts terminates with 0, the machine account is created under "ou=systems" in the ldap database - all looks fine. Then a ldap search is triggered with a base

joining domain fails because of no samba entries with 3.0.23c
Hello All, I am having a very strange problem with samba 3.0.23c. I upgraded everything from 3.0.9 and I am able to smbclient to the samba 3.0.23c PDC with the administrator user just fine. When I go to add a machine to the domain, it adds the unix machine account to the ou=computers like it is supposed to but none of the samba entries are added. I get an error on the windows side of

Samba LDAP and add machine script problems
I'm trying to integrate Openldap with Samba version 3.0.10. I have populated my LDAP server via smbldap-populate.pl and I've gotten PAM to recognize LDAP as an authentication mechanism. Thus, I can add a user with smbldap-useradd.pl and su to that user. The problem I am having is when I attempt to add a computer from MS Windoze XP. When I attempt to join my domain XP prompts me for a

Samba + LDAP = Misery
I have been working on this for weeks now and feel like I am at a dead-end. I am using Samba 3.0 (Head) and OpenLDAP (2.0) and smbldap-tools 0.7 and cannot join either a Linux machine or Windows 2000 machine to the domain. If any of you have some ideas they would be much appreciated. Highlights: - I have a root defined (UID and GID of 0). - Trying to join the domain will successfully add my

Map to Guest not working
All, I've migrated a share from an older samba server (3.0.33) running on a Sun Solaris box to a newer samba server (3.6.23) running on a RedHat Linux 6 box. For the most part I've tried to keep the configuration the same (simply to make the migration easier since I'm not an expert on Samba config options). I got the authentication working (security=domain) but now I'm

I'm receiving the errors listed below. It also seems unable to map the root user uid 0 with this filter. That's not that big of a deal. Wbinfo -u and -g return output but getent passwd does not. Domain name lookup combinations setting?
I see in my workstation log trying to connect to my samba server an attempt to find my username. If I do wbinfo -u | grep -i davidsha, it returns INS+DavidSha. Do I need to change something so that it tries more combinations or something? I thought just passwords were case sensitive. users map with ADS not working
Hi All I am running two instances of samba on same box. One instance of samba has joined AD domain ABC and the other 123. My workstation is on ABC domain and when I try to connect to samba server on ABC domain, it asks me for user name and password and then fails. If I put IP address instead it works. At the same time, when I try to connect to 123 domain, it asks me for user name and password and

getpwnam() fails for LDAP Users on AIX 5.3
Hello List, below our smb.conf and loglevel 5 output of a failed authentication. We want to get the Unix User details from MS-SFU using the new idmap_ad Backend. If the Windows User is mapped to local name it's all fine. But if we want to use our SFU Users it fails. We believe getpwnam() on AIX is faulty. "id username" and login works for all users local and AD! Any ideas how to

Trying to debug a WinXP - Win2000 ADSproblem..HELP!
Now I could be way of base here, but I run 2 samba web servers with approx 8 people working with them. So my exp is limited. When I got here the boxes were set up with server level security and I had tons of problems with them. When I reformatted the units, I actually joined the samba boxes to the domain and set the security to "domain" I found these steps in an old version of Linux-Mag,

trouble joining win xp machines to samba with ldap backend DC
Greetings, I would like some help figuring this out. I really don't know what to do anymore. whenever I try to join an XP machine to the domain it comes up that username or password is not correct. However I know that the credentials are correct, but when I check the logs of that specific machine, this comes up: [2010/09/24 11:42:38, 5] auth/auth_util.c:make_user_info_map(161)
