CYGWIN Rsync exclude/include problem
I'm having troubles with getting rsync 2.5.5 (CYGWIN version) to include/exclude files they way I expect it to. I have mulled over the list postings and man pages regarding this and I am either missing something or ... well I don' know.
I have a drive with 12 folders in the root however, I only want to rsync 5 of them (the ones marked with an *) and in those 4 I want to exclude certain

Newbie question abour Rake
I''m learning about rake, and have what is probably a silly question.
When I run rake from my rails app''s top directory, what rakefile is it
really running?
I have rails 1.0, and in my top-level directory there is a small file
called "Rakefile", which basically just includes a few other files:
require ''rake''

rsync on cygwin is hanging
I am trying to backup a Windows machine to a Linux machine using rsync
(over ssh).
I have been able to successfully sync a few files at a time, but when I
try to backup an entire tree the process hangs on both machines.
I believe this is a different problem than one posted on here before,
but I did try this patch with no success:

Maildir + quota + listescape = wrong dir location
I've just stumbled across a strange thing which seems to be a bug.
It happens in 2.0.9 as well as 2.0.11 in which I tested it.

Subfolders in Rails applications (newbie)
After about a week playing with Rails, I have built a couple of apps but
am still unable to get one thing to work: subfolders. (I am probably
using the wrong term here, but oh well...)
I would like my rails application to have controllers logically grouped
into folders. So for instance:
http://domain.com/accounting/accounts
http://domain.com/hr/employees
Here''s how I have tried to

Newbie: unable to access mailbox more than once
Hello,
I'm using dovecot as a mail relay so that I can back up my providers
IMAP mail locally. I'm impressed how easy this was to set up, but I'm
having a quirk that I would like help with, if possible.
There are many weak links in my set-up chain, if you will, but I think
I've narrowed the problem. I'll describe my set-up anyway. I'm running

Cygwin rsync to RH rsync server
Ok I updated both systems to rsync-2.6.8 and found the info on setting
strace on the server. Here are the trace logs, there are two calls the
first is just the module list which finishes normally the second is the
file list in the test module which fails after the list.
By the way I have no idea what any of this means (sorry if I'm not
supposed to post traces to the list)

Is the server running an rsync daemon? If so, why the ssh?

[LLVMdev] newbie question (link error)
Hey folks, sorry for the incredibly basic question but I'm stuck in
the tutorial with link errors. I'm getting them both on cygwin (gcc
3.4.4) and linux (gcc 4.1.3).
If I enter the tutorial pretty much verbatim, it compiles fine, but I
get tons of link errors if I attempt to link with arguments provided
by running llvm-config with 'core'. If I run llvm-config with 'all'

Rsync windows to linux is hanging
Hello,
I've looked through all the postings and can't seem to find an answer to
my delema. I have tested this on an XP and win2k box and get the same
results. I'm trying to rsync a fairly large directory (approx. 1.6 GB)
from a windows machine to a linux box for backup purposes. The process
hangs at the same point everytime. When I try to rsync smaller portions

Newbie question - AIX binaries
This is as "rookie" as you can get. I would like to install and config Samba on
my AIX 4.2.1 box, so that its printers and files are visible to my PC's on my
Novell network. The PC's are NT4.0 workstations.
I will admit right now that I am completely unfamiliar with Samba, and I'm
having difficulties finding what I need. I have tried going to several sites

should Sys.glob() cope with a UNC windows path beginning with backslashes?
I find that Sys.glob() doesn't like UNC paths where the initial slashes are backslashes. The help page for Sys.glob() doesn't specificly mention UNC paths, but does say: "File paths in Windows are interpreted with separator \ or /." Is the failure to treat a path beginning with a double-backslash as a UNC network drive path the intended behavior?
E.g., on a Windows system

Problems saving Excel sheets using Office 97 on a Sambashare
Nathan,
Thanks for the tips. Most of these settings were already in place, but the ones that were not already there I set up, with the exception of the 'force group' setting. I hesitate to try this simply because many of the subfolders under the shared volume are have their access controlled by group, and I didn't want to risk preventing others from accessing their files in the middle

I have a difficulty with the option 'hide unreadable' in the smb.conf
