here's a fix for Goldmine (and other ISAM database based programs) on Windows NT/2000/XP clients talking to samba
Goldmine seems to a compiled database application compiled in something likeClipper. Clipper applications record lock through ISAM like files (DBF). However, in Windows NT/2000/XP, Opportunistic locking is turned on by default in order to accelerate file transfer from file services. [Windows 95/98 did not Opportunisticly lock] However, opportunistic locking corrupts ISAM and ISAM like

samba is extremly slow! (a bit long)
Hello Everybody. First of all sorry for my bed english. I am in a very big trouble. I migrated our Novell to samba 3.0.2a a week ago. It works, but it is very-very slow! The novell is on a PII 233Mhz/384MB SDRAM/SCSI2 hdds, the samba is on PIV 2Ghz/1GB DDRRAM/SCSI UW320 hdds in raid5, and the novell is much-much faster! Win2K/XP, oplocks, and readahead.
Hi! I'm working with Samba backed by a high performance filesystem. From a Windows 2K and Windows XP client I'm trying to achieve very high speed single file throughput over GigE from the Windows client using either open/write or CreateFile/ReadFile APIs. I'd rather not venture into overlapped IO there so that we don't have to recommend that all our customers rewrite their

SMB signing.
Hi all, Is anyone using Windows SMB signing in a production environment ? This is the signing proceedure created by setting the Registry keys EnableSecuritySignature:1, RequireSecuritySignature: 1 in the lanmanserver and lanmanworkstation parameters. I'm playing with implementing this in Samba for 3.0, but am finding that it doesn't seem to work when mixing Windows NT or Windows 2000

Files Updates
Hi, I have an Informix program that unload data to a file in a samba directory. Problem is although the file has changed, I still see the old data from my Windows 98 SE PC. I only see the updated data after refreshing the snmba directory numerous times. Sometimes I have to wait for more that 10 minutes !! Funny thing is this problem does not apply to my friend's PC. Why is this so and

NT4 with Samba4
Have a need to support one NT4 server in one environment and trying to escape the past a bit by upgrading the PDC which currently runs Samba-3.6.24. So far my testing has shown that Samba4-4.5 as a PDC appears to work just fine. I can even install Exchange 5.5 on the test NT4 server in this environment. However attempting the same Exchange 5.5 installation when running Samba4 in AD mode it

"Delayed Write Failed" and other similar errors on Windows machines
I am experiencing an error which has been reported on the internet since Samba 2.2.7 and Windows 2000. There are many suggestions as to the cause of this problem, but no working solutions that I've been able to find. I've already invested two weeks on this problem. I was running Samba 3.0.7 under Mandrake for the last year, and this problem was not present. Because Mandrake had other

NT4 with Samba4
I am surprised that you were even able to join NT4 to a "classic" domain with Samba 4.x. On the NT4 machine that does work, which account does the System Attendant svc run under? Does that service account belong to domain groups? On the NT4 machine in the AD domain, did that service even get created ? On 01/31/17 16:13, Sonic via samba wrote: > Have a need to support one

Samba-related info on disconnected NT networkshares
The issue of disconnected networkshares (shares offered on an NT server) has appeared on this mailinglist a few times. It is not a samba issue, but it seems many here might benefit from the information given below anyways, as I've never seen a solution to the problem come by. Problem: Whenever there has not been any activity (file/network IO) to or from a networkshare that is offered by an

Samba 3.6.23 and Windows 7
After being content with an old laptop running XP for years, my job decided to provide me with a shiny new one running Windows 7 Professional. The biggest problem with this is that I can't get the Windows 7 box to login to my Samba NT4-style domain controller. I have upgraded samba from 3.0.33 to 3.6.23, and copied my smbpasswd file to where the new samba expects to find it in

ADMIN$, C$, and D$ shares
The shares named C$, D$, and so on are shares that only become available on a Windows 95 system when you are using the "Remote Administration" feature -- i.e., accessing the ADMIN$ share. As soon as you connect to this share, Windows activates a <letter>$ share for each permanently mounted partition on your computer (CDROM drives and the like don't qualify). The bottom

NullSessionShares under samba.
Hi, Is there an equivalent setting in samba as the Windows NT/2000/XP registry key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters \NullSessionShares We have a Windows service that needs access to files on a samba share. Setting the above key to the name of the share works well on Windows servers but I can not find a way to do this under samba 2.2.1a. Thanks
