stikky-Bit
Hello, why can't SAMBA 2.03 set the Stikky-Bit on a directory which is made with a W9X Client and Directory Mask 1770 ? I want the directories who are created on a Samba-share are build with the Stikky-Bit is on to avoid that other users can delete non-owned files on this share. strange speed of mkfs Centos vs. Debian
Hi, I'm testing a storage system and different network settings and I'm faced with a strange phenomen. Doing a mkfs.ext4 on the centos server lasts 11 minutes. The same mkfs.ext4 command on the debian installation is done in 20 seconds. It is formatting a 14 TB 10Gbit ISCSI Target. It is the same server. Centos and debian are installed on different internal harddisks. Any

smbmount'ed fs "dies" after a short time
I have a linux (RH6) client that smbmounts a filesystem from an NT server. After some short unspecified period of time, all attempts to access the mounted filesystem on the linux box result in "Input/Output Error". I can't even smbumount the file system (same error message). The NT system continues to function, and other MS clients (Win95 and NT) do not have any problems with the

SRP for OpenSSH
Hello all Support for Secure Remote Password (SRP) for OpenSSH was last discussed in 2004: http://marc.info/?l=openssh-unix-dev&w=2&r=1&s=SRP&q=b There's a SRP patch for OpenSSL that's about 2 years in the making: http://rt.openssl.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=1794 Tom Wu from Stanford has been working on that. Has anything changed since 2004 that would make inclusion

Warning: Server lies about size of server public key: actual size...
We started receiving this message in our production server. Warning: Server lies about size of server public key: actual size is 767 bits vs. announced 768. Warning: This may be due to an old implementation of ssh. When I looked in the list archives I see that there has been a conversation about this topic before back about a year ago. Currently we are going from Openssh version 3.4 to another

Why a copy of smbd for each smbmount mountpoint?
When an OS/2 or Win9x client logs into a (Linux) Samba v2.0.6 server the running smbd spawns a copy of itself. That second instance of smbd then handles all the shares for that client machine. In contrast, a Linux client which does multiple smbmounts (also Samba v2.0.6) will cause the server to spawn a copy of smbd for *each* smbmount mountpoint. This has the potential for using up a lot more

You must supply a password to make this connection - IPC$
Hi Folks, Just installed Samba 2.2.10 on my FreeBSD 4.9 computer. I can see the FreeBSD box on all of my Win 9x boxes, but when I double click on its icon, I get a rude box message that says something like: ==================================================== You must supply a password to make this connection Resource: \\SAMMY\IPC$ ====================================================

stuck process continues under strace
Hello, I have a few VPSes with centos5 on which I expirience a strange phenomen: Every now and then a random network communicating process (lynx, sendmail, httpd, ...) starts eating 100% of cpu while doing nothing. That slows down a VPS a lot. When examined with lsof, all of such processes have at least one tcp connection in close_wait state. Touching such process with strace -p makes it spring

SIP-Channels cannot be created after a while of running asterisk ...
Hi list! I've got a strange phenomen running asterisk for a while. After about two or three days without restarts, asterisk is not able to create SIP-Channels anymore, but gives me messages like Sep 4 00:12:06 WARNING[7175]: Unable to allocate channel structure Sep 4 00:12:06 NOTICE[7175]: Unable to create/find channel A reason this happens could be "hanging" SIP-Channels,

Photoshop can't save files, gives bogus "Disk is full" error
Hello, I am having dreadful problems with Win2k workstations running Photoshop not being unable to save files to a new file server which we just installed for the direct purpose of serving graphics files. When trying to Save As a new file or Save an edited (existing) file we're getting a response that the disk is full, which is far from true because we have 1.6 TB free. This happens both

smbfs size limit
Hello, Samba-users, please don?t beat me, but I have to ask this question here, as I haven?t found an answer I can rely on until now. I am working on a solution for a backup-problem and one possible solution could be the use of smbfs/smbmount. I am testing that now, mounting a WinXPHome(sorry, testing ...)-share which is 20GB of size (8GB used) to my linux-box. The linux-box is a bit more

Samba not visible in NN with File and Print Services installed on W9x
Hi, maybe I missed a recent "FDP" (Frequently described problem)in the list, but maybe somebody can point me to the right direction. There were several postings about not seeing Samba but none referred the the MS "File and Print Services" on W9x clients being the cause of the trouble (Hope this is the correct translation from German W9x). I've got a Samba 2.0.5a with Suse

W9x doesn't download printer drivers
My W9x clients cannot download printer driver from samba 3.0.2rc1 with cups 1.1.17, while w2k clients do. The W9x clients open the Add Printer Wizard, connect to print$ share, request the ADOBEPS4.DRV file, but they stop at the beginning of the download. Permissions on print$\WINNT\0 directory are the same as print$\W32X86\2. cupsaddsmb was successful. I sniffed the packets while client was

SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a and missing libncurses.so.4
I've downloaded Samba 2.2.6 (binaries) from SCOs Skunkware site, but when I try and run smbclient I get a message : dynamic linker : smbclient : error opening /usr/local/lib/libncurses.so.4 Killed I've checked and there is no libncurses.so.4 (or libncurses.<anything> for that matter) on the system. I've also failed to find anything relevant in either the list archive or SCOs

Cups, samba and temporary print files
This is probably more of a Cups issue, however, I have a question about the spool files from sharing Cups printers in Samba. The spool directory on my Samba server seems to be holding print job files from past print jobs. I'm wondering what is the proper way to eliminate these files? Any help is appreciated. Tim

two printers: one works ok in w9x/2k, other printer unavailable in Win98 BUT ok in w2k!
Hi all, I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port, the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, both printers are

Samba - Problem Connecting PCs
Hi, I want to setup Samba as a new PDC. I followed the instructions on IBM's site (http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/esdd/tutorials/samba/index.html) The problem I currently have is that Windows 9X boxes can't connect to the Mandrake 9.1 Bamboo box. However, I can make connections on localhost to localhost using smbclient //localhost/share -U username I've tried a couple of different

What is the best way to have "R" output tables in an MS Word format?
Dear "R" list, Our statisticians usually give us results back in a PDF format. I would like to be able to copy and past tables from "R" output directly into a Microsoft Word table since this will save us tons of time, be more accurate to minimize human copying errors and help us update data in our papers more easily. Do people have suggestions for the best way to do this? I
