cannot write to share
I have a server 192.168.0.14 and the directory I wish to share is /home/photo
I can mount from 192.168.0.1 with
mount -t smbfs -o "username=photo" //192.168.0.14/photo /mnt/smbshare
it prompts me for a password and I can see the contents of the share
but I cannot write to it.
Any pointers gladly recieved

nmbd - is it running or not...?
Hi, I've just started setting Samba up so I'm at quite an elementary
stage!
I'm using Samba 2.2.8a on a Solaris 7 server.
I can connect to Samba ok when using localhost from the console.
However when I try and use DOS from a Win95 test machine I get a message
saying the computer name was not recognised.
This points to the nameserver not running (I'm using nmbd provided with

xen + vlan: works but...
Hi,
I''ve setup a Xen server host (suse, xen 3.0.2) with vlan as follows:
server-eth0 <-> vlanXY <-> vbridgeXY <-> domU-eth0
That is: vlan''s are managed in the physical host (for better security).
The setup is working, i.e. I can connect to/from domU-eth0 from hosts in
the same vlan.
The problem is: it seems I loose "many" packets.

Hopefully the attachment will make it this time...

I am practicing with the attached shapefile and was wondering
if I can get some help. Haven't used 'rgdal' and 'maptools' much
but it appears to be a great way bring map data into R.
Please take a look at the comments and let me know if I need to
explain better what I am trying to accomplish.

Non-default Domain group RID and NAS problem....

Many moons ago I set up Samba 3.x with LDAP (Fedora Directory Server)
back end. Frankly, I forget what example configurations I worked off
of, but the GIDs and SambaSIDs for well-known "Domain" groups (Admins,
Computers, Guests, Users) start around 2512.

Samba and Win viruses
Hi,
This may seem a fairly obvious question but I need to check it out.
It's also fairly urgent so I apologise that I haven't made a good check
of the FAQ's or mailing archives.
We have a Solaris box with Samba installed. We are on a campus network
where boxes that are infected are blocked from the network as a security
measure.

Thank you Rsay, it was a nice try, but I could not get this to work with my Logitech mic. For the record I have it (the microphone, that is) set up so that it works fine in Audacity.

NOLF2 - Registry key?
Glad to see the work that has progressed so far with wine, especially in
the area of DirectX implementation.
So, with that in mind I compiled a fresh copy of 20050830 and began
testing my games. Started with an oldie but a goodie, No One Lives
Forever 2. Usually I couldn't even get past the opening screen. This
time, the game attempts to launch, but then a window pops up and says:

Newbie using John T's Examples (AD)
I'm following along with John T's examples book and I'm still
befuddled on getting Samba working.
The server is Fedora Core 5, Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc5.1
PDC is W2K SP4 with AD
I basically copied/pasted the example smb.conf and nsswitch.conf to
get a basic working config. The lines "template primary group" gave
problems so I removed that one line.
I run testparm -s and get:

Polycom/sip.conf/voicemail configurator
I have just created a very rough (read hack-ish) version of a Polycom
SIP phone configurator. It allows you to define phones, create
registrations, and such. By describing stuff about users, I am
attempting to divine what the configuration should be. This is a VERY
early first step in that direction.
Right now, it:
1. Parses the phone1.cfg file included with whatever version software
you use.

Cisco 7960 XML/Configs
I ordered 10 7960's with SIP today (YAY!), I should have them on Monday!
So, to be better prepared come Monday morning, I was wondering if anyone
knew of any * compatible screen configs for things such as browsing VM,
etc, yadda, yadda. I checked out the wiki about ADSI but from what I
see, that's not really applicable in a SIP setup? I'm guessing it's
going to be a more XML

A little help with Wine installation
Okay so I'm a newbie to Ubuntu and I just got a new system with Ubuntu on it.
