3.0.7 - NT Create AndX Response, Error:, QUERY_PATH_INFO, Error:
<earlier, David Rankin wrote to no avail:> Mates, I have been watching a developing problem over the past few weeks. Most likely a M$ patch to XP that has caused problems. What happens is that XP clients try to open the standard "File" -> "Open" dialog (like in word, or whatever) and the file open dialog hangs and stops responding for 15 seconds or so. I have

Poor performance getting lots of small files with WinXP/Win2k vs OS2
Hi, We're doing some of performance tests with Linux Samba v3. We're comparing WinXP/Win2k clients vs OS2 clients accessing a samba server. For one test, we're coping 10.000 small files. Let's say, we run the command copy \\sambaserver\10000files\*.* c:\data\10000files With an OS2 client it takes 23 seconds to complete. With an Windows client it takes 460 seconds to complete.

1 byte writes
After migrating a particular W2K file service to Samba 3.0.21c on SuSE 9.3 Pro (a DMS with winbindd against a W2K3 ADS), the W2K clients are suffering performance issues (in a switched LAN). Looking at the traffic with Ethereal (latest SVN), it looks like the client writes the data in *1 byte* pieces likes this (c=client, s=server): c->s NT Create AndX Request c<-s NT Create AndX

Long Delays Displaying Small Folders in Windows Explorer (samba-3.0.10-1 FC2)
Hi, I'm trying to replace a windows fileserver server with a Fedora Core 2 samba server in our Windows 2000 ADS domain. A performance problem occurs when accessing certain samba shares from Windows Explorer on either an Windows XP or a W2K client machine. It can take up to a minute for explorer to list files in a share folder containing only a few files! It eventually does, but but reports

Poor performance when accessing Linux from Windows XP because of too many QUERY_FILE_INFO requests
Dear all, My question is described as follows. Server: Linux Samba-3.3.1 Client: Windows XP with SP3 Step1: connect to the samba server. Step2: select a directory name ?test?. (The directory is created before testing.) The client will send a lot of QUERY_FILE_INFO requests. According to data captured by Wireshark, I find the following phenomenon: The client repeats exactly the same

Access Denied, Roaming Profile -- no apparent reason...
Samba 3.0.28a-0.fc8 & Windows XP. When logging on to machine 'A' one of my users gets an "Access Denied" message for a particular cookie file -- 'statse'. When logging on to another machine ('B'), there is no problem. I have tried, when logged in as administrator (mapped to root on the server), to read the cookie file on both machines. Machine 'A'

Saving files with MS Word to samba3 server is very slow!
Hi! I'm currently hunting a strange problem and looking for help! I have a samba3 fileserver (currently samba-3.0.20b, but problem can be reproduced with samba-3.0.7, but _not_ with samba2 like 2.2.8a), and I see performance problems when writing files with MS word 2002 SP3 from a NT4.0 (SP6a) workstation. Saving even the smallest file takes more than 10 seconds! Copying files with Windows

When opening a file it takes up to half a minute!
Greetings, in our small network with about 10 Clients I got a problem when opening files or directories. If there were no actions between server and client for about 2 minutes or more, the very first action (open file, change path, etc) needs a long long time. The problem occurs on some clients (win 2k/xp), but not on every client. I tried a working smb configuration from home, but still no

SMBD not authenticating against Active Directory
Hi, Iam trying to setup Samba version 3.2.3 on Redhat (RHEL5) server to use Active Directory for authentication. I followed the instructions from article in following website: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/magazine/dd228986.aspx Setup Winbind + Samba + Kerberos and it seems to work fine. I can see the users in Active Directory through winbind as well as authenticate users using NTLM

Problems related to error status_file_locking_conflict
I am running two Fedora 13 servers, one as a Samba PDC and the other as a BDC. For the past week I have been tracing a series of issues which may or may not be related to Samba 3.5.4. Here is one problem that I am tracking and need help from the list with suggestions. >From a wireshark trace between my Samba server and an XP client I am seeing the following error status returned for up to a

Slow Session Setup AndX
We are experiencing some slowness when opening files from a Samba file share using Microsoft Word 2003. Upon examination with Ethereal it became apparent that Session Setup AndX calls are taking a long time to complete, varying from 2 to 8 seconds between the time the client provides an NTLMSSP_AUTH and the server responds. I have also noticed a peculiar NetBIOS name query for

What controls the Read AndX Request byte size?
In trying to track down some performance issues, I'm finding with Ethereal that, when I launch an application from my Windows server, the SMB Read AndX Request packets have Min Count, Max Count Low, and Remaining all at 512 bytes. When launching the same application on the same client from a Win2000 share, these requests are coming in much larger sizes (4096 and 32768 were both observed). This

samba slow and several "Write andx Request"
Hi all, I'm running version 3.0.28a on Ubuntu linux, and apparently from a day to another I got performance issues: without any change in smb.conf (except a few added shares) I have mac osx and linux clients getting a very slow upload/download speed. I've checked with other protocols, like scp and performances are good, so I can exclude a network/hardware problem. Other clients are

multiple smb commands (some non AndX) in one packet
Does samba server handle multiple smb commands (not necessarily andx commands) within one packet? If a client were to send commands such as 0x2f, 0x32, 0x32 in one packet instead of three separate packets, does samba server handle it i.e. respond to each of the three requests?
