Re: Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
After, oh, six months of attempts here and there to read everyone's
experiences with Samba/LDAP and inability for a windows 2000/XP machine
to join the domain, I finally discovered what was not working properly.
In my smb.conf I put:
add machine script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u"
As instructed by many How-to's and Idealx. However, I thought to myself,

Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
I'm using Samba 3.0.3 on Fedora Core 2 with OpenLDAP 2.1.29 for a
backend. I'm getting to typical "The user name could not be found."
error upon trying to join a Windows box. I've gone through every digest
on lists.samba.org and other sites and nothing has worked yet. Any
suggestions:
Here's what I've done so far:

Re: Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
I'm pretty sure that we have our problems solved by using %m, but I will
triple check and post results in a few hours. I don't really want to
mislead anyone into having a six month struggle as I have had with this.

Synchronize Unix/SMB passwords with 'synchpasswd'
Hi,
It's been a while since I created my smbpasswd file, and therefore
it is
no longer in synch with my Unix file. I've added and removed users over time,
and now I need a way to update the 'smbpasswd' file without losing the
encrypted passwords that are already in place (ie. I don't want to just run
'makesmbpasswd.sh' again).
So, I've written the

Joining XP clients to a Samba PDC
Greetings,
I've been pulling my hair out on this problem for several days and I'm
not really any closer to a solution. I hope someone out there can help
me.
I'm trying to set up a samba PDC on a Fedora Core 2 box using an LDAP
backend (on another server). The base install of everything is working
fine. At the unix level LDAP connectivity is configured and working

confusion about using samba as NT4 PDC with ldapsam backend
Hello,
I want to use samba v3.3.x to implement an NT4/Win2k style domain:
a samba PDC and a samba BDC, using ldapsam for the 'passdb backend'. I plan
to use RedHat Directory Server v8.2 as the ldap server.
I'm trying to sort out how user/group management and nss will work.
I'm confused about how/when the samba-supplied ldap schema is used (I mean
the schema that's in the

smbldap-tools and joining workstation to domain
Hi,
I've reported this before but I guess I'll have to do it again, since
it's not fixed yet or I'm understanding something wrong here.
The problem is that smbldap-useradd -w 'machinename' will add only
posixAccount entrys into ldap but it should add both posixAccount and
sambaSAMAccount entrys.
So if one doesn't add correct machine account entrys manually to ldap

ldap administration tool??
Greetings
I am nearing being prepared to get our corporate network from Active
Directory to samba3 with ldap. The last hurdle is to get an
administrative interface to the ldap repository containing the users and
Groups. I,m hoping for some recommendations.
I have attempted the following.

LDAP+Samba only posixaccount possible?
Hi!Is it possible to get the samba authenticate a user and map to his homedirectory only using posixaccount or are there some attributes that windows absolutely require like in the samba-objectclasses?Any configuration examples if this is possible.I have been experimenting with pam.d/samba using pam_ldap.so module, but no success so far.Currently I have setup the server so it can authenticate a

Re: RE pdb_ldap.c, ldapsam_add_sam_account, existing poxisaccount
St?phane,
The book "Samba-3 by Example" is being reprinted very soon. Up to date builds
of the PDF are available on the Samba web site daily. This document can be
downloaded from:
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-Guide.pdf
In chapter 5 I have fully documented how Samba-3 can be deployed with LDAP and
using the smbldap-tools. It works perfectly for me and in many sites that

some cannot join domain
Hi,
I have some machines (winXP and win2k) that cannot join my domain. Others
I have joined to the domain. I am using the smbldap-tools 0.8.9 with an
add machine script as follows:
add machine script = /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u"
The LDAP entity gets created with objectClasses top, inetOrgPerson, and

Domain Browsing broken after upgrade from 3.0.10 -> 3.0.21
Or maybe it was the upgrade from FC2 -> FC4..........
I recently was running a FC2 Samba PDC and OpenLDAP, using Samba-3.0.10.
After I upgraded the server from FC2 to FC4 samba was broken and
wouldn't load because it was complaining about a library file not
existing. (libldap.so.2) I believe.. Sure enough it wasn't there. So
I had to recompile Samba 3.0.10 again. Well the compile

roll-yer-own ldapadd operations for scipt options?
I'm currently using the suse ldapsmb utility for all the script
operations, but I want to do some custom script work for creating user and
machine accounts. For example, I want to manipulate the default object
classes and directory placement for new machines--putting them into
ou=Devices instead of ou=Users, and giving them the parent objectClasses
of account and ipHost [for NIS and DHCP

inetOrgPerson vs. sambaSidEntry for Computer accounts in LDAP
I am looking at my computer accounts that were created using
smbldap-useradd.pl -w workstationname. And I see the following
objectClasses:
top
inetOrgPerson
posixAccount
sambaSamAccount
I understand I need one structural objectClass, but don't understand why
inetOrgPerson is being used. Couldn't I use sambaSidEntry instead?
sambaSidEntry is structural, and only requires sambaSID.

Missing rpms for samba-ldap script
I was pointed to: http://web.vcs.u52.k12.me.us/linux/smbldap/
As an effective script to get samba/ldap configured for a PDC. It is
written for Fedora 3 core or the K12LTSP distro. of course I discovered
this after installing the Centos distro. Now it is decision time: stay
with Centos and get this working or move the the K12 distro. This setup is
for the small business network in my basement

Joining XPPro failed
I've installed Samba [samba-3.0.10-1.fc2.i386] with ldap backend and using
smbldap-tools.
Following the instructions of The Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto (Revision
1_10 ) and Smbldap-tools User Manual (Release 0_8_7 ) from IDEALX.
When I am joining XPPro SP2, I got the Access Denied message.
I was doing it as Administrator of the domain that has uid=0.
Should I do this as root, so I have to
