Samba, CUPS, or ?
I've been going over a problem and haven't been able to resolve it. I think I've narrowed the problem down to Samba, but I could use some advice on this. ? A few weeks ago I installed a print and fax server for a client. ?I used an old PII system with 64 MB RAM, SUSE Pro 9.1, configured to use Samba and HylaFAX. ?There are 8 client workstations running Window 98 SE (most of the

[PATCH 09/11] appliance: fix errors in init for SLE / openSUSE
Running the init on openSUSE and SLE machines showed up minor errors: * skip the /etc/mtab symlink creation if the file is already existing. * make sure /run/lvm is created or lvmetab will complain. --- appliance/init | 5 ++++- 1 file changed, 4 insertions(+), 1 deletion(-) diff --git a/appliance/init b/appliance/init index 413a95f..b22032e 100755 --- a/appliance/init +++ b/appliance/init @@

[SLE] Routing question!!
Hi, Can't really make sense of your diagram. How many clients have you got and what are trying to achieve? Also, what type of firewall are you trying to achieve, a masquerading/NAT one, (in which case you need routing turned on), or a application level one, (in which case you need it turned off). If you've got this many servers I would suggest you install masquerading/NAT firewall with

RE: [SLE] SuSE 9.3 and Latest Binaries - Library Conflict
Cross-posting scares me, but... Have you looked at the latest RPMs for SuSE, from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/samba/ ? samba stops when cups is giving up
Hi, we are running cups as print service on a single server. This server is also running samba to export the printer for the windows world. However sometimes we get the following messages on the samba file server. At this time the cupsd is still running, but not accessible. So looking at the status of the cupsd is not helpful. Two questions: Whats going on with the cupsd ? Why is samba

CUPS problem with network printing - SOLVED!!! :)))
Hi all, Yesterday I reported rather vaguely about the printing issues I was experiencing on our local network after the latest kernel update. Today, I solved it, and I'm relaying this information such that others can potentially benefit from it if they run into a similar problem. :) Firstly, I contacted Xante support and they told me I was the first to ask Linux questions; they

samba + cups
Hello everyone I hope this is not off topic. The samba + cups thing is driving me nuts. Samba runs as PDC and print server. Everything is fine, printing works, automatic driver download works etc. Now I want only certain people to be able to stop a printer under windows. After digging around a bit I set my cupsd.conf file up like so: <Policy default> <Limit Send-Document

Very high cpu due to cups. Samba 3.5.2 ok though.
Hi, We're seeing this at the moment. It's quite a beefy box and we can't see any reason why cups is running so high: 4 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5345 @ 2.33GHz rpm -q cups cups-1.3.7-11.el5_4.6 rpm -q samba3 samba3-3.5.2-43.el5 Samba is from sernet and is running with an OpenLDAP backend in full domain mode with about 100 users and about 12 printers. top - 14:28:21 up

Samba Print Driver Errors
Hola folks, I'm experiencing a problem trying to get drivers to upload/download properly with Samba 2.2.5 and CUPS. I've read the various HOWTOs and have managed to get drivers to upload, except that it errors out, saying that it was unable to apply the changes. The driver files do successfully upload to the proper directory on the Samba server. If I try to do things by hand:

solved cups error 426 was cups error 426 when accessing admin functions
Hi, Found a howto doc on my error 426 issue with cups. The fix was to disable encryption in cups 1.2.4 add DefaultEncryption Never to cupsd.conf and that did it. I'd like to have encryption on the admin area, but for home use i'll take it. On another subject does anyone know if the Cups book is available as a pdf file? Thanks. Dave.
