Filename problem (filenames containing slashes aka. \ and /)
I'm currently in the process of creating a fileserver so some mac guys at the company I work at can save files as a backup medium. (long story short i'm creating a fileserver running samba 3 with 1TB of storage) However, a lot of the files that they want backed up contain characters that samba refuses to accept (when I try transferring a file to the samba share with say the filename as

Windows XP SP2 (Official) and Samba 3
I've looked through the archives and the only information I can find regarding Windows XP SP2 is RC2. Has anyone out there had ANY experience with XP SP2 Official and a Samba 3 domain? -- Bert Rapp North Trail RV Center p 239.693.8200 f 239.693.8115

3.0.6-1 and XP SP2
I have a problem logging into 3.0.6 with an XP SP2 machine. I'm not sure where this problem has arisen from as I have been testing XP SP2 on a few machines and during this process I've done a clean install of 3.0.6. I started testing a laptop and found that while logged in locally I could access domain files as expected. When I tried to log into the domain I was presented with

Slow Printing from XP clients with SP2?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. >From an XP machine printing to a SAMBA printer, printing is painfully slow. Selecting the printer, and even sending the job through windows makes the app appear non-responsive. The print job is completed fine, but just takes a long time to print. XP boxes with SP1 print like a dream. I've managed to replicate this on 4 boxes

XP SP2 client doesn't find netbios alias servers
After upgrading XP to SP2, I can no longer connect to server aliases. The client reports an error 53, "The network path was not found", when doing "net use * \\prof\profile. Mapping to a share on the real netbios name works fine. Anyone else seen this? Setup: samba-3.0.6.rc2 smb.conf [global] netbios aliases = PROF include = /etc/samba/smb.%L smb.prof [profile] path =

XP SP2 offline files sync delay (again)
I'm running Samba 3.0.7 on Mandrakelinux 9.2 as a PDC, with a few shares from the PDC and more on a separate Mandrakelinux 10.0 member file server, also running Samba 3.0.7. The passdb backend is LDAP and clients are all Windows XP Professional SP1. Except for the below, everything works great! We make heavy use of offline files, and with Windows XP SP1, all is well. However, when I

Windows XP SP2, Azureus, and Samba
Trying again. Has anyone seen this issue: I just upgraded to Windows XP SP2 and now I am having problems :( I have Fedora Core 2 with the latest updates installed. The Samba RPM version is 3.0.3-5. The problem I am having is using Azureus and the Samba share. Before SP2 everything worked fine saving locally and on the Samba server. Now, after SP2, I am getting messages like this from

XP SP2 connecting to 3.0.10-1.4E
I have been running our companies XP Pro systems on our Samba domain controller (version: 3.0.10-1.4E) with local administrative rights up to this point. Everything has worked fine. We are getting larger now and I'd like to make the logins locally restricted (I want them to have XP's "Users" rights and "Remote Desktop Users" only). When I restrict the accounts

Joining Domain Problem only with XP SP2
I've having trouble getting XP SP2's to join a domain. Whenever I try to join, at the point I'm asked for a user name and password with permission to join the domain, I enter root and root's password, then get the dreaded "Unknown user or bad password" error message. The clients are a mixed bunch with some 98's, 1 Win2K, a few XP SP1 (I know, I know!, but

win xp sp2 + samba 3.0.4
I have samba 3.0.4 acting as a local master browser and couple of win xp sp1, sp2, win 9x client machines. Everything works fine excepts win xp sp2. It just disappears from network neighborehood in about 15-20 minutes after start. stop/starting "Server" system service on this machine solves problem for next 15-20 mins. %) What can be done about it? Is there any sence to upgrade samba to

PDC: Logging out from Windows XP SP2 takes a long time
I have samba set up as primary domain controller, and have problems with my Windows XP SP2 machines. Logging in is quick, but most of the time (nine out of ten times) the logout process takes a long time - I do end up rebooting, but once I let it stay and it took a whole hour before it was logged out. It seems to act the same way for all users. Possible sources already eliminated: - I have

"Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network" error on XP Pro SP2 clients for Samba 3.0.23d PDC
Hi, I've recently reinstalled our Samba server with a view to getting it working as a PDC using the tdbsam backend. I've successfully connected a number of XP Pro SP2 clients to the domain and can login ok, but I'm have problems getting the clients to read/apply an NTConfig.POL file I created following the instructions at http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html I'm seeing

XP + SP2 + DFS + netbios alias = not working
Hi all, I'm using Samba 3.0.6 (on IRIX 6.5). This is just a 'let you know what I've discovered' message really. I've just installed upgrade a laptop here to SP2 of Windows XP. It then started failing to make network connections. After much fiddling about, I tracked it down to DFS shares. This PC can now connect to the DFS root OKay, but doesn't recognise the entries

Windows XP SP2 slow printing solution
Hello all, I spent a couple of days figuring this out, and I found some related posts without solutions, so I figured I would sent this to the list. We run a small local network here with a mixed bag of Windows XP / 2000 / Linux clients. We have been using Samba to allow access to a set of shared printers using a linux server. We also have a separate linux server that handles our file serving

Trust between two samba
I have a problem with Samba: I want to make trust between two Samba domains. I have setup the trust on the DOMAINB server then on the Samba DOMAINA server "net rpc trustdom establish DOMAINB" I then get the following: Password: [entered password] Could not connect to server SERVERB [this is the PDC for the DOMAINB domain] Trust to domain DOMAINB established When I then try
