file context menu takes for ever with 3.0.6, both sernet and suse
I've tested SerNet's ans SuSE's versions of Samba 3.0.6 on a test member server. Joining domain, attaching share all works but if I right-click a file, the context menu takes for ever to pop up. If I select Properties, it takes even longer until the dialog box appears. Right-clicking a directory pops up the context menu without delay and the Properties dialog box also comes fast, but

OT: SUSE 9.3 and NICs
Folks, I realize this is off topic, and if anyone can suggest a better source for the question, I'd be glad to go there. Novell SUSE's support is unresponsive, however. My problem is this: I'm running 9.3 Pro on an Intel server board that has two NIC chips built in (a 10/100 and a GigE). I've since added a Netgear GigE NIC. However, every time I reboot, the NICs assigned to

Prevent right click from invoking context menu
Hoping someone can help me out here... I play a game that I have to hold down the Alt key and right click to perform a game function. When I do, I get the right click context menu for the window (Minimize, Move, Resize etc). How can I stop this from happening? I've tried going to Wine->Configure Wine->Graphics tab and selecting Emulate a virtual desktop, but this didn't work. Any

starting programs via context menu
I'm running Sidux and Wine 1.0-RC2. When I right clicked on an exe file it showed me an option to launch the file using wine. That feature is now gone and even double-clicking does not work but instead offering me to choose a program for opening the file. Now I want to re-enable the context menu feature or at least let wine open exes by double clicking. thanks

xls to csv conversion via WinXP's context menu?
Frequently I need to convert a .xls to a .csv (for import into R) and I do this by opening the file in excel and saving it as a csv. I would rather do this using WinXP's context menu (right click the xls, choose "convert to csv") but I don't know of a utility that does this. Any ideas? Thanks, Mark

Changing domain name
Hi, For reasons best known to the IT admin before myself, we currently have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about 15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux domain clients. A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid. I started doing this when I noticed something

Only partial installation? Context menu items missing :-(
Hi! I am very new to Ubuntu and thus also Wine. I installed, uninstalled and re-installed Wine a couple times while trying out Wine and some third-party apps like Wine-Doors. Now my trouble is... I just installed 1.1.16, but my context menu entry for Wine is missing. Moreover, when I now select "Open with other Application" from the context menu for a Windows app, Wine is not in the

net command in sernet -samba 3.4 for RHEL
After upgrading a test machine to Sernet's 3.4 package, it looks like the "net" command is gone. This was definitely there in the redhat-supplied 3.0 build and I thought it was there in sernet's 3.3 build too. I installed all the rpm's - samba3-client, samba3-utils, samba3-cifsmount.... am I missing something? -- Adam Cohen / IT Manager Energy Biosciences Institute /

"attrib +R myowndir" fails to write-protect my owndir
I hope Time won't take me to a CDMA court martial in Guantanamo for unfair use of your quotes, Daniel! The point is that each norm is only really valid in its original context. It is the spirit of the norm which should guide us. The idea is: you slap an unorthodox attribute onto an object to evoke any kind of practical magic and then laugh your sides off. Who cares? The same with Readonly.

McAfee 8 incompatible with Samba
I've parsed a whole year's worth of postings in this group and didn't find any previous reference to the problem. Since I've updated McAfee to version 8 many applications which open file chooser dialogs report "Access denied" when trying to open a Samba share, including the users's own home directory. At installation one can choose to exclude some apps from the

openssh on Red Hat and Suse Linux with PAM (cf. bug 559, patches 292, 675)
Do you know if either of the patches referenced above can be applied to the 3.6p1 code shipped by Red Hat (RHEL3) and Suse (SLES8)? It appears they were integrated in the 3.7p1 and 3.9p1 releases, respectively. Hello Group, I tried this one at the newsgroup linux.samba but got no response. Now I hope the somebody here can help me. What I want is simple (IMHO ;-) - working quotas with SAMBA What have I done: - compiled SAMBA with qouta. - set user level security (made smbpasswd for my users) - applied SuSE's quota (tools) update - set up user quotas for an ext2fs file system. - turned quota on.

R 2.4.1 changes for SuSE users
Hi UseRs! RPMs for SuSE Versions 9.3 to 10.2 and bleeding edge aka openSUSE_Factory are available at http://software.opensuse.org/download/home:/dsteuer/ as I shifted the creation of these packages onto the Opensuse Build Service compiler farm. You can use the directories therein as installation sources for the respective versions of SuSE Linux. My goal is to put R-base back onto

Issues with Samba
Hi I cannot seem to find any information regarding this in the mailing lists . I am testing a UNIX PDC before I implement it to general use in the network . It works fine It would appear with the win 2000 clients. But I essentially have two problems 1. When I have PGP installed on the machine and log in with a roaming profile . It creates a network associates folder that does not get
