ADS membership with Samba 3.0.4
Hi,
We are in the process of evaluating the possibility of porting Samba
3.0.4 to VxWorks.
Features wise we don't see any problems. But our main concern is on the
security. Since we do not have the concept of Users and Groups on
VxWorks, we cannot have any authentications as such.
So, the other possibility is to pass on the authentication to another

failing to print 'point-n-print'
Samba 3.0.6
I have successfully gotten other printers to work using the
'point-n-click' method for downloadable drivers. However, playing
with one printer leads to failed results.
I have created the CUPS port/printer, added it to samba and then used
the Windows APW to upload the drivers. After upload, the print
properties windows readjusts for the new printer options - I have

Cannot enable "Enable advanced printing features"
Hi all.
I'm trying to use Samba to replace an old Windows print server, and
everything works just like a charm - almost...
There's one thing, which prevents my organization from accepting this new
printerserver, and that is that I'm unable to activate and save the "Enable
advanced printing features" setting for the printers - this is used to allow
for printing multiple

segmentation fault
Dear sir,
I have configured samba with ads integration and it was working
perfectly in RedHat Linux 9.0. But Yesterday I changed that
configuration as simple user level security. But my problem was when I
run 'smbpasswd' command I am getting one error as 'Segmentation fault'.
What I can do to trouble shoot this problem. Kindly reply me as soon as
possible..
Thanks & Rgds

Which distribution to rollout
we are running an older version of RH (7.3) - and I am getting
concerned that I may need to migrate off of it - but I dont know what
I should move to. Trying to formulate ideas before it becomes a 'got
to do it now' scenario.
I have some reservations about fedora - I just dont know how stable it
is for a production server (our services are mainly
samba/ldap/ntp/ssh/rsync/clamav) - we

PRINTER share not appearing
I was doing good - getting close to rolling out a point-n-print
samba/cups server when while uploading a driver file, I got some
random windows error about the PRINT SUSBYSTEM was not available.
After reconnecting to the samba server, the PRINTER share was gone.
Uninstall the SAMBA RPM and re-install yielded nothing. I cant figure
out what happened to it.
any ideas?

new user - new issues
Just installed Xen 3 on FC5
that all went smooth following:
http://www.fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraXenQuickstart
I want to however create a FC4 virtual machine -
I attepmpted to use the image at: http://jailtime.org
but it doesnt seem to work (networking fail, most else works great) --
I am thinking that it is because those are for Xen 2 (??)
So, is there another place to get images for Xen 3?

Folder Permissions
Hi,
I have Samba up and running as well as winbind. I have ran some tests to
confirm that yes indeed winbind is able to query the Windows NT 4.0 PDC for
user/group/password information.
However I am having difficulty understanding how to set shares up in samba
so that I can apply permissions to them using my Windows user information
rather than creating each user on samba with the same password

Printer drivers installation: files are not deleted
Hello all,
I'm running Samba 3.5.5 on Debian 5, and following the documentation as
closely as I can to install drivers using rpcclient.
I first install the driver on a Windows 7 x65 workstation, then use
rpcclient/smbclient to fetch the files.
I then use smbclient to put those on the print$ share of the Samba
server. So far, so good.
Then I use rpcclient to add those files, and that

samba3, network printing, additional problems
Hello,
First of all my thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I'm still
having an issue getting this network printer going. I'm now getting a
windows error from explorer.exe, i've checked all the windows system,
application, and security logs and of course the error is not in them. I
then turned samba's debug level to 10, reloaded it and tried again to
access the printer. This

Problem with a samba print server
Hello,
I created a print server SERVIMP(*) with samba 2.2.8,
i put all the printers at it. I installed the
drivers one by one (win98 and win2k) using the
APW of win2000.
The drivers seems to be correctly settled.
Then on SERVIMP I execute with rpcclient the assignment
of the printers to the drivers with $> setdriver printer "driver"
i get success with this.
I can then

it as best as I can.
We have a program called realty toolkit which saves its configuration and
security settings onto the network. Well, after putting the files onto the
linux box, it no loger wants to work, the security check fails.

Migrate BACK to WINDOWS -> Talk me out of it QUICK
Not thinking about migrating back due to issues, it is more due to
implementation needs and a little situation I have been wrestling with
with for a bit now, and would love some feedback
First a little history:
We currently have 10 locations connected via a dedicated 1/2 T-1.
Last year I migrated from a WINNT domain to a Samba/LDAP domain. It
has been running great. Basically did this for
