Netware 5.0 to Samba/LDAP migration
I'd like to migrate a Netware 5.0 serve to Samba and LDAP. I'm wondering how I might export the usernames, passwords, and perhaps group memberships to the destination LDAP. If I can get the data into LDIF form, I'm okay from there. Does anyone know how the passwords in Netware 5.0 are encrypted? I hope to bring them over, but reseting the passwords is not out of the question (just

Managing global/local variables when creating R packages
I'm working on a package for R to create graphs for modeling interactions between latent variables in SEM. At the moment, I have one function which performs the necessary steps to prepare the data for graphing, and then separate graphing functions depending on what graph type (or types) the user wants. To get the prepped data from the setup function to the graphing functions, I

Status
So, just some quick notes: - dovecot.org server was down a couple of days again, need to find time to move it to a VM.. - my tss at iki.fi emails were also broken for some hours at least and it was bouncing back all mails to it during the time - I fixed some bugs reported by people, but I did it in airplane so couldn't reply back with links to the fixes in hg repo. I'll probably do

WINS Question?
I have setup my Samba server as a WINS server using the wins support = yes parameter. My remote network can see the Samba server at our head office fine. I have also setup the WINS setting on my PC (W2K Pro box) to point to the IP address of my Samba server. When I do a nmblookup -R -U <IP address of WINS server> <name of my PC> on my Samba server I get this reponse; querying pc1

Cannot join Win XP SP2 client to domain
Dear all, I have created two virtual machines on my computer (With Vmware 5.5.3). One is running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 with Samba 3.0.22. The other one is runnung a WinXP SP2 client (name: test01). I can browse the shares of the Samba Server. Furthermore I can connect to them with different user names. When trying to join the client to the domain I get an error message that the

Smbclient Connection to Samba server failed
I played with the smb.config file long enough to get both the smbd and nmbd daemons to run. Then ran TESTPARM against the correct smb, conf file without issue. Finally I tried the following command: [root@cofr3 /]# smbclient -U illingsk -L MySQL added interface ip=172.17.60.6 bcast=172.17.63.255 nmask=255.255.248.0 wins_srv_died(): WINS server 172.16.0.121 appears to be down. WINS server not appearing in Nethood
Hi folks, I've had a setup working for quite some time and everything's fine except that the server that hosts the WINS never appears in the network neighbourhood, and when trying to connect to that server there is a small delay. As few people need to browse to it, the problem's had a low priority as the WINS side of it is working fine, and the rest of the nethood is also working

smbclient, DFS and not_defined_in_RFC4178 [samba 3.4.7 and windows 2003 sp2 AND 2008 sp2]
Hi all, I'm trying to use DFS. Using smbclient 3.4.7 (distributed with Lucid) and windows servers with both 2008sp2 and 2003sp2. Smbclient successfully lookups up our DCC's. If the first in the DNS reply is a 2003 server it works but if I get a 2008 it doesn't. The main differences is that I get a "not_defined_in_RFC4178 at please_ignore" principal in the SMB Negotiate

Samba 3.0.7, WinXP Pro SP2 printing issues with netbiosnames.
Hi We're currently experiencing some problems that wasn't a problem in 3.0.4. Since SP2 was installed printers get connected \\<ipaddress>\<printer-name> instead of \\<netbios-name>\<printer-name>. It's more common on SP2 machines but it happens on non-SP2 machines. Although these issues are not consistent. Which some windows applications seems to have a

write performance of Win xpp sp2
Gentlemen, I have noticed (!) an unbelievable drop in performance with Windows xp pro sp2 systems, compared to sp1. The performance I have noticed is 122 seconds to write 65,000 indexed records to a dBase type file under sp2 and the same job in sp1 is 7 seconds!! I can't believe that this is a 'normal' feature of Windows sp2 software when working with Samba. Is it possible that

XP SP2 offline files sync delay (again)
I'm running Samba 3.0.7 on Mandrakelinux 9.2 as a PDC, with a few shares from the PDC and more on a separate Mandrakelinux 10.0 member file server, also running Samba 3.0.7. The passdb backend is LDAP and clients are all Windows XP Professional SP1. Except for the below, everything works great! We make heavy use of offline files, and with Windows XP SP1, all is well. However, when I

3.0.6 ? and XP SP2
I posted a while back about problems logging in via a laptop with XP SP2 on. Today I have found some more information (i.e. something else now doesn't work) which should help the developers identify/solve the problem. As far as I can see this has not been on the list. My original problem was that having installed XP SP2 & 3.0.6-1 (as a new install) I found a laptop, which I usually log

Warning for SP2 net share point on Samba 3.0.7
Hi All, Just a word of caution for those who are intending to roll out XP SP2 via a network share. I've encoutered an issue with SP2 and Debian Samba 3.07 when more than 5 simultaneous connections are in place. I'd set-up and tested a rollout using the samba share, but come roll-out day most of the 20 odd machines were still copying files some 48 hours after. No specific errors were

Lingering WinXP SP2 issues
After apparently flawed testing, we rolled out SP2 for XP this week as samba seemed to be able to handle printing acceptably in recent versions. Once we rolled it out, we started getting reports of many users receiving the error :A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue. Please contact your system administrator." on a select few
