not force-user'ing while printing?
Hi all,...
...currently I am trying to get the following setup up and working
here:
* capisuite (www.capisuite.de) works as an isdn/capi-based fax
solution for the LAN.
* cups is used as printer spooler, there is some "glue" package to
access capisuite through cups, thus generating a "print-to-fax"
solution.
* since the clients in the LAN still are all Windows NT 4,

no USB/HID UPS found?
Hello world;
been using nut atop Debian GNU/Linux (sid) for about two years by now,
my configuration broke as I upgraded the machine this morning (headin'
for kernel 2.6 to have full support for the new GBE NIC included). I
read through the UPGRADE.gz instructions provided with the Debian
packages and tried to fix things according to the instructions pointed

writing to windows 2003 cifs-mounted share?
Hello world;
currently I am running into some strange problem with a setup that
incorporates servers running Windows 2003 and Debian GNU stable (samba
3.0.14). Here's the situation:
* There's a share on the windows box that the unix machines need to
access. This is mounted using CIFS with uid= / oid= options to ensure
the desired unix user account is able to access the data in the share.

winbind: incomplete mapping ?
I'm trying to have a linux client to identify users against a AD server (w2k3).
I'm using ldap as winbind backend, but using files I get same errors:
On 900 users, some of them aren't fully recognised:
doing a "wbinfo -u" I see the user in the list, but a "getent passwd user"
return nothing.
More precisery, I can get the SID of the user, but winbind is unable to

syncing file dates between windows nt4 and samba 3.0
Hi all,...
... currently I am trying to get hold of a strange error which is
successfully keeping me from sleeping the last week. Basically, I am
running a DebianGNU/Linux based machine with samba 3.0.0 as a backup
server for an amount of Windows NT4 workstations. There is an old backup
"framework" around here, basically a collection of .bat files on the
workstations which at

Tracking down random server drops...
I've been fighting with a samba install on top of a amd64 Ubuntu 10.4 system
for a couple months now. I have a small flotilla of Windows systems running
anything from Win 2000 up through Windows Server 2008. All save for the
2008 systems are setup with nightly NTBackup jobs with my samba server as
the destination. The 2008 systems are running MS SQL and use the samba
server as the

dovecot, winbind and user folders
Folks;
I'm in the process of migrating an existing IMAP infrastructure to
something that should be dovecot based. We live inside a Windows AD
2012 realm and the servers use winbind for user authentication as well
as pam configurations to automatically create user home dirs whenever
the user logs in first.
Can something like this (mailbox is automatically generated whenever
user logs in
