Hello list
The Samba Howto Collection repeatedly asserts that by setting the sticky
bit on directories any files created in those directories will be created
with the owner set to that of the directory (for example, see
http://samba.mirror.ac.uk/samba/docs/man/howto/AccessControls.html#id2541262).
This has never worked for me. Files created inherit the group of the
directory, but not the owner.

logging details
Are there plans to expand the logging capabilities in OpenSSH, so that the details of what files were moved using sftp is included? If not, does anyone know of a good way to capture this information? Thanks in advance, - Sue

Installing Packages
Hi.. I am using R as a user, another group built everything I am using. But I need to install some packages and my only internet access is via a web-proxy. I have hunted though the docs and I'm not finding anything on setting a proxy in the package install command. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

Dynamic changes while Shorewall running?
I am looking at using Shorewall in a local college. There will be a default
set of firewall rules, but for some lessons certain classrooms will be
granted full Internet access (this will be done by the lecturer via a web
interface). I am seeking suggestions for the best way to implement this
under Shorewall. I think it might make sense to make each classroom a
separate zone, but is there a dynamic

[LLVMdev] llvm cross compilation and simplescalar simulation for ARM
Hi,
I want to explorer affection of compiler on low power.
For the project background, I tend to process this work via LLVM, rather than GCC. And the Target is ARM.
For this purpose, clang(3.2) + arm-gcc + simplescalar-arm(and panalyzer) seems to be a good choice. But I encounter several problems in the processing of setup the environment.

Disconnected Drives Reconnecting but red cross remains on share problem with clipart
When I last posted the email below the reconnect issue did not seem to be
causing any problems, we have subsequently had some users reporting that
they cannot open clipart. This only seems to happen when the red cross is
displayed, if users perform a:-
?
NET USE H: /D
?
which removes the drive
then they preform a:-

NET USE H: \\SAMBASERVER\HOME <<file://\ SAMBASERVER\HOME>>

blues in c
G'Day,
I'm a little confused why the c function has the followng effect on
classes - is this a feature ? My workround [ class(cc) <- c("POSIXt",
"POSIXct") ] seems to do the job.
Many thanks

accessing current factor in tapply
G'Day,
I want to access in a function called from tapply the current factor. In
my example below, all I want to do is to write the current factor on each
histogram. Needless to say my example does not work. I would be grateful
for pointers in the right direction.
Many thanks

Debian and Slackware don't sell "enterprise" products. And many such
projects are non-profit or otherwise. Unless Debian plans to establish
itself as a commercial player, they don't need to defend their trademark.
In fact, the commercial

Limiting bandwidth
Greetings,
Scenario:
Centos box with eth1 (10.0.0.0/24) and eth0 (192.168.0.0/24)
segment on eth0 has access to full bandwidth of uplink
Both are on 100mbps switches
Requirements:
bandwith on segment on eth1 needs to be throttled to different speeds - say
32, 64, 128kbps and the such. Required for application performance testing
purposes.
As usual my girlfriend google is very verbose.

Drive namings...
Just wondering if there is a way to get drive namings to change according
to who's logged into the network.
ie.
'bob' logs into windows networking and gets...
E: 'bob' on server kiwi.
Now if 'sue' logs into windows networking on the same pc she gets...
E: 'bob' on server kiwi.
But E: contains sue's stuff. So is there a way into making 'sue'

An error message I don't recognize
I have recently been told I will have to maintain some CentOS servers at
work. Since I have only been using Slackware for the last 16 years, I
decided to install CentOS on one of my servers at home to get an idea of
the differences. I installed CentOS 5.4 from CD with no problems, did a
yum update, set up a couple of samba shares and started to copy over
some files from one of my other

Removable drive configuration
I have a box running CentOS 5.3 with two Dataport removable drive bays
installed on the second IDE interface (/dev/hdc and hdd). I want to
configure it so I can plug in and mount various drives at different
times, including different size drives. So far it will only recognize
the first drive I plug in, and only if I boot the box after inserting
the drive.
Is there any way to set it up so I

Newb question about facade columns
Hello,
I am trying to deal with a database table that contains a date in the
form of the number of seconds since epoch. Data is inserted in this
format by an existing script that I can''t change, so a schema change
isn''t realistic.
I would like to allow humans to view and edit this data in the form of
an actual human-readable date. I figured a facade column would be the

RE: correction... cannot create 2GB (not 2MB) domU
On Unisys 16X 16GB ES7000/one with SLES10 Beta11 updated to xen changeset 9998, attempted to create a 2GB domU and get Error: The privileged domain did not balloon. xm list shows that before the attempt to create the domain, dom0 has 15910 MB memory. After the error, dom0 has dropped down to 13993 MB.

Red crosses on Mapped drives
I am getting red crosses on the mapped drives of some win2k pro machines
connecting to a samba pdc. I don't have them logging into the domain and
the drives are disconnecting (it happens on win2k server too). There is a
parameter for win2k server to autodisconnect the drive after 15 minutes
which can be changed with:
net config server /autodisconnect:TIME
and there is a registry key in

I am using ESS on a unix system for my analysis. My R environment
