All I want!!!! (Winbind)
Well, I am a bit confused. I am DESPRATE to get winbind to use the same GID and UIDs on several machines... But I am having a headache doing it. I need to run an LDAP server, I guess, so I put one together with the most basic things. But I just simply can't get it to run. Is there any site or document I can read that will show a most basic LDAP setup that would run my idmaps? I just need LDAP

Winbind - More Info
Ok.. I figured a lot of this out... But I am lost on how to keep the UID and GIDs identical.
How do I make sure system A uses the same IDs that system B will use?

And the LDIF thing
Sorry.. One more email.. I tried to create the IDMAP container on the LDAP with an example I found:
dn: ou=Idmap,dc=softeng,dc=com
objectClass: organizationalUnit
ou: idmap
structuralObjectClass: organizationalUnit
and it gives:
adding new entry "ou=Idmap,dc=softeng,dc=com"
ldap_add: Constraint violation
additional info: structuralObjectClass: no user modification allowed

Samba 3.0.3 breaks domain somehow.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

After upgrading from 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 in a Windows 2000 Native Domain
environment, 9x clients can't connect and wbinfo -t doesn't work:
bash-2.05a# wbinfo -t
checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed
error code was NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE (0xc00000ac)
Could not check secret
Downgrading to 3.0.2 fixes this.
I can get log files, but

Winbind - NIS?
Am I missing something here? I thought winbind was supposed to act similar to yp/NIS? That winbind is given a range of UIDs and GIDs that would be higher than anything on the local system and winbind would translate out a passwd entry for each Windows domain user (again, identical to NIS). That I would only have to add a user to the windows DC, and that when that user tries to log into one of our

LDAP Supplementary Groups not recognised
We are implementing the following:
Solaris 9
iPlanet Directory Server 5.1 (bundled with Solaris 9)
openldap 2.1.16
Only used for ldap libaries (samba will not compile
without. Is this other people's experience?)
samba 2.2.8
compiled with ./configure --with-ldapsam --with-acl-support
We have the samba server acting as a PDC with all user and machine

Re: Carrara 6 on WINE 0.9.59, Ubuntu Hardy 8.04, Gnome 2.22.1...
Hi VitalBodies, I have just made the switch to Ubuntu myself, Whilst I understand I may never get Carrara to work, I have successfully installed Corel Bryce 5, Hexagon and Daz Studio 3 advanced under wine 1.2. The Wine App Database says that folks have got Eovia Carrara 5 to work with no problem but after installing this version along with the C++ runtime's, Carrara 5 under Wine will not let

302 Redirect + XMLHttpRequest = ARGH!!1
I''ve looked at various sources for how to handle 302 redirects but they
all seem to be fundamentally flawed, ie don''t work at all. I''ve writted
a much more verbose writeup of my problems on my blog and rather than
repeat that here just go there.

ARGH!! why does my samba server lose domain master elections??
Subject pretty much says it all.
(And *please* don't point me BROWSING.txt since I've been there done
that and it still doesn't work)
First let me vent...
What a shit microsoft is for doing the following...
creating a browsing protocol where the WINS server is dynamically
elected from a possibly infinite set of machines; yet you need to
hard code a static address in the

argh!!!! database nightmares!
Please help!
I'm currently running samba 2.2.2 on a redhat 7.1 computer. I'm having
major database problems with any database that I try to store on my
samba server. The programs are quickbooks, act, and access. Basically,
all of my index files keep getting really hosed. I have to repair and
rebuild files everyday. This is bad especially since this client is a
recent convert from NT to

argh .. if/else .. why?
Hello, would someone please help explain the following inconsistency
in the if/else statement to me?
The format of the if/else #3 below is ok, but if/else #1 is not? (I get
an "unexpected else" type error.) In order for it to work I have to use
if/else #2
Thanks .. maybe there is some reason for this, but this looks very
inconsistent to me.

Firefly and *... Argh!
Okay, I've read as much as I can, and I think i've followed
instructions, but I'm still having problems with * and firefly... I can
get outgoing to other freshtel working, but not incoming (I get the "not
available" voicemail), or outgoing to landline.
I'm using the debian asterisk package (0.9.1-RC1-4)
My iax.conf has in general (under my FWD register, which

My PDC Conversion Project
I have 3.0.2a (with about 75 machines/users) installed as a PDC for my Win2k users and found an oddity. (waiting for a bin version of 3.0.3 for RH8.0)
All was fine before I left 2.2.8.... But now when users hit <CTL>-<ALT>-<DEL> and change the password, they get "domain not available". When they log in, they get the logon scripts to execute, and anything else I do to

ARGH... once again samba causes "permission" errors. SOLVED
Ok, I was able to fix both of my problems and they are both related
to SELinux problems
First: I am assuming that you are like me and that you have an excellent
background in systems administration (I teach it at a university for a
living.) So you've configured chmod permissions and chown user and
group ownerships on directories and files to correctly allow the desired
access. You have

ARGH!!! Instal fails at drive format time
Got all the way through the selection of packages. All those time
consuming tasks and the install got to formating the drive and crashed
on a format error!
Since I know exactly how I want to lay out the partitions, is there a
way I can boot from CD, and get into Disk Druid to set the partitions
and do the formating. Then when I come to the install just select to
keep the drive how it is?

Argh! Trouble using string data read from a file
Here is what I tried:
optdata =
read.csv("K:\\MerchantData\\RiskModel\\AutomatedRiskModel\\soptions.dat",
header = FALSE, na.strings="")
optdata
attach(optdata)
for (i in 1:length(V4) ) { x = read.csv(V4[[i]], header = FALSE,
na.strings="");x }
And here is the outcome (just a few of the 60 records successfully read):

Argh, preecho mistriggers
In case people on the list don't know it, A Vorbis tester (who's email I've
lost! If you're on the list, speak up!) is maintaining a vorbis audio quality
test page:
http://hem.passagen.se/ingets1/vorbis.htm
He's doing us the great service of hunting down samples that break Vorbis (so
we don't have to :-)
In any case, it turns out that the trumpets in the dr4 sample

Doco! ARGH! (smbpasswd's not up to date on the web site)
Hi all,
(again)
The page:-
http://ie.samba.org/samba/docs/man/smbpasswd.8.html
does not have any description of the '-j' option.
However:-
http://ie.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/smbpasswd.8.html
does.
Why is this a big issue ? (worthof a post to the mailing list?)
because the first URL above is linked off the main 'Documentation' page
of the Samba web site
