install software when the user logs on (with admin previledges)
Hi All,
is it possible to install software when the user logs on ?
I think the problem is, that some software needs admin-rights to be
correctly installed?
The logon script is executeted with the username/right of the
logging-on user, so one can think of changing the user from within the netlogon-script...
but this would be dangerous, as one has to write the password
of an admin account in the

Re: Request for sample qmailGroup ldif: LDAP attribute is not given b ut mandatory. (#5.3.5) error
Hallo,
you have to add the qmailUser - objectClass and the corresponding
attributes to the entry, qmailGroup is an derieved objectClass from qmailUser.

'net rcp shudown' with mashine account (-n -P) possible???
Hello samba-list,
I'm able to shutdown remote mashines using:
supzli02pdc:~ # net rpc shutdown -S <target-pc> -U Administrator%<passwd> -r -t 1 --comment=Abmelden
I wounder if this is also possible with an mashine account auth (from the
PDC)? I couldn't get it to work:
supzli02pdc:~ # net -n supzli02pdc -P rpc shutdown -r -t 1 -S <target-pc> --comment=Abmelden

''m having trouble with BackgrounDrb
Hi. I thought that BackgrounDrb was the perfect solution for my long
running report production tasks.
But I can''t seem to get anything useful back out of it.
I set up a simple test worker that just does
class TestWorker < BackgrounDRb::Rails
attr_reader :pupil
def do_work(args)
@progress=0
@pupil=Pupil.find(3)
sleep rand*10
@progress=100
end

Problem Referencing Fixture Objects
In my tests, I use fixtures, eg pupils.yml might be:
jimmy:
id: 100003
known_as: Jimmy
surname: Page
academic_year_id: 1
gender: m
In the test, @jimmy (the referencing style referred to in Agile Web Dev....)
is nil, whereas pupil(:jimmy) returns the expected Pupil object.
What gives?

when to save, session reflect saves?
I am trying to clean up unnecessary lines (even as I hack my way forward
adding more garbage)
I have two questions on lines I have trying to keep the database and
session info reflecting changes:

@teacher = session[:teacher]
@pupil = Pupil.find(params[:id])
@teacher.pupils << @pupil
@teacher.save #Q1
session[:teacher] = @teacher #Q2
end

Anova
Doea anyone know how to compute components of variance analysis? For example, I have the score of pupils on a test. Each pupil belongs to a school and within each school I may have several classes? How can I estimate the variance of the pupils, schools, classes and the errror variance?
Any examples?
Any help will be appreciated.

writabledatabase_delete_document()
Hi guys
I have implemented xapian on a website, and it currently has about 2M
items in its index.
Its all been working quite nicely so far, until I tried removing some
old items from the index (removing items when the index was smaller was
no problems at all).
When I try to remove them now (using writabledatabase_delete_document()
via php), it halfway freezes up the machine, and the apache

encoding a ntlm-hash from cleartext passwords with java
Hi,
i am writing a tiny application which generates new accounts from an
existent department's database. This is a school and i have to create
several hundred accounts per year, so i think it's worth the effort.
As i write this app in Java (I just happen to be best in Java not C or
Perl), i would like to do as much as possible in Java without invoking
external scripts. Alas i do not

Probelms with patching EXT-3
Hello anybody,
I have a Suse 7.2 Linux with Kernel 2.4.9, which is compiled by myself,
and is running stable.
Now I try to patch my sourcecode in the way you write on your homepage.
But thier are two Proglems:
1. When I download the the file "ext3-2.4-0.9.6-249.gz" with my Windows,
I get no packedfile, I get a Textfile?!
-so gunzip would not work.
2. never the less, I tried to patch

Zero byte files
Hi all,
I have a Centos 6 box running samba-3.6.9 and I have a problem with
files turning to 0 bytes after being edited and saved. One of the users
reported that he changed the name of two files and both ended up sized 0
bytes and opening them revealed them to be empty. Has anyone had a
similar problem? I've been looking for 3 days and there's obvious
pattern to the events

How to modify environment variables before executing a command
Hi,
I'd like to access and modify shell environment variables before
executing a command on a remote host via ssh. Unfortenatly, I can't
figure out the proper way to do this...
It seems, standard shell configuration files (e.g. ~/.bash_profile) are
not sourced before ssh executes a command. Of course I could explicitly
source them, e.g.
ssh user at host 'source ~/.bash_profile;

random effects in mixed model not that 'random'
Hi,
I have the following conceptual / interpretative question regarding
random effects:
A mixed effects model was fit on biological data, with observations
coming from different species. There is a clear overall effect of
certain predictors (entering the model as fixed effect), but as
different species react slightly differently, the predictor also enters
the model as random effect and with
