dying network drive connections with Windows 2000 Pro/Samba 3.0.7
Hi I'm experiencing trouble with a Samba 3.0.7 installation and Windows 2000 Professional clients that lose their network drives after some time. The Samba server is acting as a Domain Controller for a single subnet with about 10 clients (W2k Pro with Service Pack 2-4). At some (random) time after the login the clients all have the same problem: the network drive mappings die (sometimes a

XP Pro machines cannot print or reconnect maps
Hi, I'm fairly new to administering Samba, and I'm using the version that came with RedHat 9.0, so here goes.... Using Window ME clients I can map drives to my home directory, access files and print on the (server) printer. However, using Windows XP Pro.... I can browse to the Samba server and map a drive and access files, but once the XP machine is rebooted it fails to reconnect to the

Samba3.0.1 - can't join new XP Pro pc to domain]
When adding machines to a Samba-2.2 controlled domain, the ?add user script? was used to create the UNIX identity of the Machine Trust Account. Samba-3 introduces a new ?add machine script? that must be specified for this purpose. Samba-3 will not fall back to using the ?add user script? in the absence of an ?add machine script?. > We have a very simple samba PDC setup using smbpasswd.

Samba3.0.1 - can't join new XP Pro pc to domain
We have a very simple samba PDC setup using smbpasswd. About 10 days ago, I migrated from RH8/Samba2.2.7 to Fedora/Samba3.0.1 successfully. Now all morning, I've been trying to add another XP Pro PC to the domain without success. The following message appears after typing in the root id/password as part of joining the domain. The following error occured attempting to join the domain

Linux box talks to XP Pro, XP Pro permissions deniedon LinuxBox
Let's keep this on list please... See if you can connect as samba user from samba box... smbclient -L WHATEVER_YOUR_SERVER_NAME -U Administrator smbclient -L WHATEVER_YOUR_SERVER_NAME -U Michael but note - casing is rather odd and might be your problem. UNIX is case sensitive but Windows/Samba is not case sensitive... therefore Samba will see 'Michael' as 'michael' and

Can't map samba drive from Win2K SP2 Server
I am running smbd version 2.0.9 and cannot map to a samba share from a Windows 2000 SP2 Server. I can however map from the samba server to the win2k Server. I can also map from the Windows Server to a windows 2000 Pro laptop on the same network, so I know that the server can map shares outside of itself. I can also map from a Win2K pro client and from other unix boxes to the samba server. I can

SPOOLSV and XP PRO
Hi All I recently began having issues where there would be a runaway SMBD process listed in TOP, having a Pri of around 25, and using 70 to 95% CPU indefinitely. IPTRAF reports around 600kbps constantly in and out from the subject workstation, with nothing going on - on the workstation. This traffic is parallel to the runaway SMBD process ... the traffic dies when the SMBD process is

RE: XP Pro timeout; we have a winner - webclient service
Thanks to Jason Balicki for the correct fix to this problem. The 'webclient' service in Windows XP, somehow interferes with access to the Samba server. With the service stopped and disabled, the clients are working again. Samba mapped drive to XP on logon
Hi- I'm having a recurring problem with Windows XP and a Samba share on logon. More specifically, I have a Samba (v 3.0.24 on Debian Etch) share with share permissions (not a domain) mapped to a drive in Windows XP Pro. Whenever someone logs onto an XP Pro computer in the network the drive isn't there. Here's an example: Say there's a document on the shared drive and a

3.0.23c (FC6) and XP Pro - Error: STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND
On Monday (xmas day) samba was working fine. On Tuesday it wasn't. I didn't change anything on either the Fedora Core 6 machine (relay) nor the XP Pro machine (oob2). I followed all the steps in "Procedure 38.1. Diagnosing Your Samba Server", and until I got to step 8 everything worked fine. From the broken xp pro machine: oob2$ net view '\\relay' The Server

XP Pro and offline files
All: Not sure if this is an XP Pro issue or a samba issue. I am running v3.0.3 of the samba server acting as a Domain controller and file server. The problem that I run into is that every once in a while, while connected to the network the network shares go offline. I am running XP Pro SP2 and I am not really sure where to start to troubleshoot this. TIA Ron
