Understanding Samba net commands
I am using Samba 3.0.4 on RedHat 9. This server is a member server in an NT
domain. Everything is working find.
I'm trying to better understand the use of the net groupmap commands.
Mapping the groups on Samba seem to have no affect with the rest of my
domain. For example, the account that is an administrator in the NT domain
has no permissions in Samba.
I use wbinfo -u to list the users.

Local vs Domain sid using net commands
I am curious. I have joined my 3.0.6 samba server to my NT4 domain. However,
when I do a net groupmap list, I notice that the SID of the Samba Domain
accounts (i.e. Domain Admins, Domain Guests, Domain Users) is not the same
as the sid of the domain that it is joined to, when doing a net rpc getsid.
Why is this? Does this mean that the Domain accounts in Samba are not really

PDC Problems(winbind, joining domain, net groupmap, etc), FreeBSD 5.3, LDAP
Goal: Have Samba operate as a PDC using LDAP as its passwd backend.
Be able to have W2K servers as member servers.
Note: I have not posted any .conf files, because I not sure what files
would be relavent in seeing. Since somethings are working and
somethings are not.

group add and groupmap with ldapsam
hello,
trying to set up an pdc with 3.0.4 on solaris with openldap
creating groups and adding groupmaps does not work.
net group add asks the password for the ldap-manager, comes back without
any message, but the group does not exist after that.
if i try to make a groupmap without adding a wingroup first, the result
is the following (no question for the password!)

Samba3.0.1pre1 winbind failing against domain groups(ADS)
Winbindd is having trouble finding the Domain Admins group in my domain.
It appears to be searching for the group but does not show what domain
it's looking into - then it tries the local PC (ANC-Gentoo):

trouble with samba/winbind
Hello,
I have installed samba 3.2.0-pre1 on a Debian Lenny system and joined it
to a windows 2003 AD domain. Wbinfo -u -g and -t all show good results
(returns users and groups, rpc call successful). The "net ads" commands
return good results as well (net ads info, net ads status, net ads
lookup).
My problem is that even though I have added the groupmap commands for

how to let windbind to use LOCAL groupmaps?
Hi,
I'm trying to join ?linux machines to AD domain with the help of winbind.
In order to make account managent more easier, I want to create
corresponding group maps from every linux native group, then join
domain users/groups to the new LOCAL groupmap.
At present, BUILTIN groupmap works fine with the steps:
net groupmap add sid=S-1-5-32-544 unixgroup=admin
ntgroup=BUILTIN\\Administrators

Can't add groups or groupmaps with ldapsam
Hi all,
I've got Samba working as a PDC with ldapsam and am unable to add groups or
groupmaps, although I can add/manipulate users and machines without any
problems.
With Samba 3.0.23b if I try to add a group with the command:
net rpc group add testgroup
it fails with:
add group failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_GROUP
The UNIX group is created in /etc/group but nothing is added to LDAP. I've

Idmap and ldap backend not working on domain member
Hello,
on domain member idmap against ldap is not working.
I tryed to dump network communication between MEMBER and ldap
server, but Ethereal (0.10.0a) says packets (3 pieces at all) are
corrupted and can not be
analysed (I have ldap ssl = off).
Our setup:
Samba domain seems to be working, WinXP logons to domain and users
did not report any problems. Server is PDC on samba (3.0.2 on linux

"net setlocalsid" question
Hi,
I'm a tad confused about something. I've got a production instance of Samba
running. I am trying to get a test version running on the same box, with the
same SID. Without the test server running, I used "net setlocalSID
<oldsid>" (the net binary is the one for the new server). Then when I issued
'net getlocalsid' it returned it. I thought I was fine.

not understanding a do.call
I did a ?do.call but i don't think i understand it.
if a, b,c,d are numeric vectors then could someone explain the
difference between
do.call("cbind",list(a,b,c,d))
and cbind(a,b,c,d).
or point to an archive on it.
the return value of cbind is a matrix or dataframe depending on what is
sent in but i don't
understand wheen it would be useful to use do.call. i realize it

[Fwd: accessing shares]
John: I wanted to add that I have no problem logging into the samba
server with a domain account, as long as it's not through KDE. The first
time error's out complaining about DCOPServer and not being able to
write to the home directory....don't know if this is relevant.
My experience is very limited on Unix and Samba. Please forgive me if
the answer is right in front of me.

3.0.4: winbind not working with windows 2003?
I hope this is just one of those issues where just after hitting the
send button I figure out what is wrong. Client is 3.0.4 (also tried with
3.0.3) and server is windows 2003 with all patches as of today applied via
windows update.
Short summary: wbinfo -u doesn't work and wbinfo -g lists just a BUILTIN
domain.
I have done this lots of times, but now winbind seems to be not working anymore.

adding machine accounts on-the-fly - 3.0.4 and LDAP
Hi,
I want to achieve, that the IT staff could add machines (2000/XP) to samba-3
(LDAP backend) on the fly.
Creating a new machine account to LDAP requires special access to samba
(uid=0).
In samba-2.2.x was a great parameter called "domain admin group". So
everyone, who belonged to the specified group and root (uid=0) could modify
LDAP.
Others got message - "cannot access LDAP

If I try to add groups I also get the same error.
and I don't know if this is relevent or not but when I try to join win

samba 3.0.4 and -with-ldapsam
I am trying to get samba 3.0.4 to work as a PDC using LDAP with my old samba 2
schema. I used -with-ldapsam when building in the hope that that would be OK.
I had a problem when it came to "net groupmap ..." because samba was trying to use
the samba 3 schema attribute sambaSID. I got round this by setting
passdb backend = smbpasswd ldapsam:ldap://<myldap>
so it appears to

Samba Domain Member Server -- tdbsam/winbind/idmap_rid -- file ownership ?
I have just struggled to implement a Samba Domain Server, and have some
remaining issues.
I have a Samba PDC using tdbsam, managing a domain called RHEA.
I have (finally) configured a new Samba Domain Server (AUREUS) using
winbind and idmap_rid.
When I am logged in to RHEA as user GMCH I can access a TMP share on
AUREUS (at last).
Running 'getent passwd' I get (inter alia):

accessing shares

Problems accessing shares on my Samba 3.0.1pre1 running on Gentoo1.4
I'm stuck big time! I've been trying to figure out why I cannot access
shares. The only share I can currently read & write to is:
[OpenShare]

path = /tmp
