Samba is screwed up
I have set up a Samba server (Version 3.0.10-1.fc2) on a Fedora 2 box, but it appears to always be allowing anonymous login now and when I try to log in with a valid user it keeps telling me the login failed. Can someone tell me why this is happening and also, why are authorized users not able to log in? Here's the content of my smbusers file: root = administrator admin apache = fred nobody

R-forge getting the wrong package
After accusing someone of typing 'install.packages("weather")' instead of 'install.packages("webmaps")', I discovered that R-forge really is currently returning the wrong source tarball for packages after 'Repitools' in the alphabet. The data returned from available.package in install.packages goes out of sync at 'Repitools': RemoteREngine

Asterisk-1.0 RC1
We have officially made the first release candidate of Zaptel, Libpri, Asterisk and Gastman available. While there are still open major bugs, they are relatively limited, and it was time to go ahead and get the 1.0 ball rolling in earnest. ftp://ftp.digium.com/pub/asterisk Enjoy the code. Special thanks to all the bug marshals and contributers and to everyone who has supported Asterisk

Runnable R packages
I see some value in Duncan?s proposal to implement this as an extra package instead of a change to base R, if only to see if the idea has legs. I?m minded to do so myself using your suggestion, but is there a particular reason why you recommend using the remotes package instead of devtools? The latter seems to have the same functions I would need, and I believe it is more widely installed that

difftime arithmetic (PR#2345)
Full_Name: Barry Rowlingson Version: 1.6.0 OS: RH8 i386 Submission from: (NULL) (148.88.136.205) Strange things happen if I premultiply a difftime() object with a number. Example: > d1 <- difftime(Sys.time(),Sys.time()) > d2 <- 1 * difftime(Sys.time(),Sys.time()) > d3 <- difftime(Sys.time(),Sys.time()) * 1 > d1 Time difference of 0 secs - thats fine > d2 [1] 0

Missing argument error message
Back in the days of R 2.6, if you did this, you got this: > z=function(x){x*2} > z() Error in z() : argument "x" is missing, with no default But now in this decade we get (for R 2.9 and 2.10): > z=function(x){x*2} > z() Error in z() : element 1 is empty; the part of the args list of '*' being evaluated was: (x, 2) Now I can see (after thinking about it)

Can't browse network using nautilus
Hi, I'n using the nautilus file browser in a GNOME desktop environment on a FC2 system. If I enter smb:/// in the location bar in nautilus I can see the network but whenever I try to look at the shares on a computer I get a message saying that I do not have permissions to view the contents. I looked in the archives and found a thread on a similar problem. This thread mentioned that

Missing rpms for samba-ldap script
I was pointed to: http://web.vcs.u52.k12.me.us/linux/smbldap/ As an effective script to get samba/ldap configured for a PDC. It is written for Fedora 3 core or the K12LTSP distro. of course I discovered this after installing the Centos distro. Now it is decision time: stay with Centos and get this working or move the the K12 distro. This setup is for the small business network in my basement

Can I pass PPTP packets thru 2 firewalls?
Is it possible to pass PPTP packets through 2 firewalls before they hit the remote access server? I installed a Netgear ProSafe VPN firewall as the first line of defense in my network. I have since set up a Fedora Core 2 server running Shorewall 2.1.3 and Squid in non-transparent mode, between the Netgear unit and my network. So, the Netgear faces the Internet with a public, static, IP address.

Trouble connecting to Samba shares from other Linux boxes
Hey list, I'm having some problems with a few of my Fedora Core 2 boxes. 1 of the systems is set up as a Samba Server as the main fileserver. I have some Windows XP machines connecting to it just fine, nice and fast. However, I also have some FC2 systems that connect to it using the smbfs filesystem, and while they work initially after booting up, any amount of browsing through Nautilus or
