Samba 3.0 ACL improvements by Snap
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I'm looking at the source code from http://oss.snapappliance.com/3.1/Opus3.1.079.tgz which has a number of improvements to the ACL handling code in Samba. However, the patches are against Samba 3.0.0. Is anyone working on integrating them? Otherwise, I'm going to see if I can get some of the patches to apply against Samba 3.0.6. - -Tom

sample size estimation for count (poisson?) data?
Is there a function in R that will allow me to estimate the sample size required from count data (poisson data?), given the known variance and desired margin of error and confidence interval? My specific data set will be based on a survey of hikers that will be asked about the number of animals of species 'x' they observed during a given period. I need to know the number of hikers

Active DNS registration on join realm?
Dear Samba members, I am wondering if on joining a realm (with security=ADS), samba 3.x server gets automatically registered with MS Dynamic DNS server. My test with Samba 3.0.14a on linux did not reveal any such capability. But may be because I did not use the correct option? I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance, -Arup Biswas

Windows port
Quite some time ago (March 98), Gordon Chaffee did a patch to port ssh 1.2.14 to windows. (See http://bmrc.berkeley.edu/people/chaffee/patches/patch-ssh-1.2.14). Has anything along these lines been attempted since, with a more recent version of the openssh client? Cheers, Rasjid. -- Rasjid Wilcox Canberra, Australia (UTC +10 hrs) http://www.openminddev.net

Dropped frames streaming video to samba
Hi, We've got a setup here with a samba server in front of a fibrechannel array. It's a pretty vanilla samba setup exporting an xfs filesystem. The box is an opteron 265 with 4G RAM and a QLogic QLA2312 HBA running SLES9. We can dd an 8G file to a share from a windows workstation in just over 2 minutes (about 65MB/s) and dd back in about 4 minutes. Local disk performance in the machine

Redmine and Forge outages
Hey folks, Due to continuing problems with our datacenter, we''re moving some infrastructure this evening. During this period, both Redmine (https://projects.puppetlabs.com/) and the Forge (http://forge.puppetlabs.com) will be unavailable. Sorry about the short notice of this, and the outage earlier too [1]. If you have any issues in a couple of hours once it''s all back up,

Proposal to allow owning group to edit ACLs.
Hi all, I've been spending some time with customers lately and I've discovered an interesting thing. Many IT departments completely delegate the settings on directory and file ACLs to the users who are interested in the data. For example, on a given share for "Finance", the finance group is given full control on the containing directory (ie. they're allowed to set ACLs on

auto start
Hi, I'm fairly new to both linux and samba. I'm running RH8 with Samba 2.2.7a. Samba's installed and is basically working, but can anyone tell me how I can get samba to start when linux boots up? I'm currently having to start it by running the following commands; ./usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd -D ./usr/local/samba/sbin/nmbd -D I've got the Using samba book from o'reilly, but

setres[gu]id implicit decl warning on Linux glibc
Hi, With recent snapshots, I noted a warning in compilation on Red Hat Linux 7.3 system with glibc 2.2.5: uidswap.c: In function `permanently_set_uid': uidswap.c:155: warning: implicit declaration of function `setresgid' uidswap.c:168: warning: implicit declaration of function `setresuid' The problem appears to be that these should be prototyped in unistd.h, but aren't. Assertions for asynchronous behaviour
Hi all, In GOOS[1] they use an assertion called assertEventually which samples the system for a success state until a certain timeout has elapsed. This allows you to synchronise the tests with asynchronous code. Do we have an equivalent of that in the Ruby / RSpec world already? I know capybara has wait_until { } but that''s fairly rudimentary - the failure message isn''t very

Simple code dosn't work
I think you have a syntactical error on the line thats throwing the error, you state: > j.even?should be true #throws an error on j == 2, j == 4 should this line not read as: j.even?.should be true -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Filesystem panic
Hi, I'm running RH9, 2.4.20-18.9. Each night, the server mounts an external FAT32 disk using firewire, and performs backups to it using rsync. Twice within the past 3 months, the backup process has resulted in machine crash (complete hang, hardware reboot needed). From /var/log/messages: Oct 22 04:02:20 yoda kernel: Filesystem panic (dev 08:21). Oct 22 04:02:20 yoda kernel: fat_free:
