adding deviances as meta-analysis?
Dear all, Not a problem that is very specific to R, but I think that it is not only of interest to me... So I hope that someone finds the time to provide me with some clues on this probably rather basic issue. I'm performing an analysis of experimental data with a categorical response variable. Until now I have been using a classical maximum likelihood approach. The most basic output measure

Implementation of W2K Group Policies from a Linux Ser ver
Just a quick congrats to John for repling to this email constructivly. Too often do people fire out the ole RTFM speel. More people within the OpenSource community could do with taking a leaf out of his book. On topic for a second, do not discount being able to lower the spec of the below machine due to careful implementation and installation. You may wish to take a look at the kernel

Developement speex; harmonic booster
An idea would be like for WMA 9 lower bitrates (32-42-48Kbps) to use a 'crystallizer'; which is basically a harmonics booster focussed at transposing sharp tones some octaves higher. Eg: A file has been recorded @ 20khz computer (or 10khz real life) to preserve space. While playing back the file sounds a bit mushy, almost as if someone was speaking through a cardboard wall. The higher

But I'm guessing >that the problem is that the problematic songs aren't at the same sampling >rate. The three songs I've heard so far are at 32kbps 11.025khz stereo.

Impact of bnetd judgment on Samba?
Just wondering if the decisions in the bnetd case might affect Samba at all? http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/doc/2004/bnetd_30sep.pdf From my reading, the judge is claiming that because the bnetd authors didn't have permission to reverse engineer the Battle.Net protocol, they breached copyright by reverse engineering it. Apparently in the USA you can waive your legal rights through

Kyocera 680 KX and driver uploads failing - anybody have success?
Hi All, Just a quick one. Some turkey has bought a kyocera 680 and we have to set it up for samba print sharing. We have about 35 other HP, Lexmark, and other things working a treat on this server so I know it's all working. When I try to upload the driver for the kyocera it uploads fine from my windoze box and everything looks sweet, I apply and I get the extra tabs as expected for

What makes excel file opening so slow??
Hi list, Despite the question I asked last time (I will re-install the FC3 with Samba 3.0.14a on another computer for replacement soon), I still have one more question on Excel files. I found that Excel file opening is extremely slow (especially on slow connections, i.e. VPN). The case is really bad, it takes around 2 mins to open a excel file of around 400k. Actually we got both side having

OGG decoding/multi-channel mixing
Hi All, Currently I am investigating how interesting OGG is for me. The most important requirements are: - Decoding on embedded hardware, ARM7 or ARM9. - Mixing multiple audio streams/files on embedded hardware First of all how difficult is it to decode OGG on an ARM7/9 processor? I read that OGG decoding needs floating point support? Secondly I would like to know how many MIPS are needed to

Point and Print
I recently posted regarding problems configuring Samba. These have all been fixed but I am now struggling with the point and print facility. I have attempted to upload the drivers from Windows XP workstations but this seems to do nothing. So plan B was to manually copy the files to the appropriate print$ share folder, so far so good. The problem I now have is that the rpcclient utility simply

Reality Check -> Roaming Profiles
Disclaimer... I know Roaming Profiles are a modern day example of "the emperor?s new cloths". I also know that 2+2=4. Let's think Linux/Unix here a second. Preference files are stored in the user's home dir. A user can log in (text or X) multiple times, they will always get the same home dir. Thus each login instance will share those config files. The same just happens to be
