NIS, Samba
Hi,
I have samba 2.1 (last month cvs) working as a PDC
on a linux machine.
Everything works fine except for the connection (opening
a session), which is very slow.
Login could take up to 5minutes.
Making the samba server a slave NIS server helped a lot,
however it still gets extremely slow when several (>20) users
try to login at the same time.
This problem occurs only when there are many

spandsp tiff debian question
oops. sent this last night - I was getting this list on an alias that I didn't
send from.
Hello,
I am attempting to setup spandsp on debian-unstable-2.6.7-recent-HEAD. Gnome
requires libtiff3g 3.6.1-1. I downloaded libtiff 3.5.7 and 3.6.0 and was
able to install 3.5.7,spandsp, and reinstall asterisk. A newer Makefile.patch
was needed, then I switched a few lines in the Makefile (from

Re: 2.2.7 compile error using --with-acl-support
If you are using the debian/rules from apt-get or the source tarball, you
need to not only include
--with-acl-support in debian/rules, you also need to
vi debian/config.cache
--> replace "ac_cv_header_sys_acl_h=${ac_cv_header_sys_acl_h=no}"
with "ac_cv_header_sys_acl_h=${ac_cv_header_sys_acl_h=yes}"
This will allow it to compile.

c/c++ Random Number Generators Benchmarks using OpenMP
Dear R gurus,
I am interested in permutations-based cpu-intensive methods so I had to pay
a little attention to Random Number Generators (RNG).
For my needs, RNGs have to:
1) be fast. I profiled my algorithms, and for some the bottleneck was
the RNG.
2) be scalable. Meaning that I want the RNG to remain fast as I add
threads.
3) offer a long cycle length. Some basic generators have a

pfifo_fast as leaf qdisc for htb classes
Thank you Andy! I did''t find why I could''t use the fw
match in ingress. Now it works.
Now I ran into another problem:
When I try to add a pfifo_fast leaf qdisc dor htb
classes it seg.-faults. Is pfifo_fast a special qdisc?
I can succesfully add other type of qdiscs.
I found that a similar problem was reported in
february on a MIPS architecture.

T100P: Can't Make/Receive Zap Calls (Long Newbie Blah)
All,
Alright, I've looked around the internet, the voip-info.org wiki, and
browsed the contents of this mailing list. While I've found a couple of
scenarios that are close to this one, I haven't found one that uses my
particular card (T100P). Without further delay --
I have successfully configured internal SIP services between a Snom 200
and a Windows X-Lite client and have

which print tool: CUPS vs BSD?
Which printing mnechansim works best with Samba? CUPS or BSD? I suspect
that BSD support in Samba is not the greatest.

TDM400P : no dial tone...
Hi,
I recently installed a gentoo on a PC, purchased a TDM400 and installed
asterisk.
Kernel is 2.6.11-rc3
First, there seems to be a problem with my system: I must put the

The modules are loaded ok (dmesg output)

Help: File is present (via Samba) but cannot be opened?
When I mount a Windows XP partition (NTFS) on my SuSE 9.1 machine via
Samba 3.0.4, I find some files can be listed (via "ls") but mysteriously
cannot be opened, even though the file permissions appear fine. What
is a good way to track down this sort of problem?
Here's an example where I "cd" into a samba-mounted directory and try to
open a file that I know is present. It

NFS performance - default rsize
Hi list,
We've had an interesting NFS performance issue with the following setup.
Clients : CentOS 5.5, kernel 2.6.18-194.el5
Server : Solaris 10 kernel Generic_142901-08
Reading a file (not cached) with dd : dd if=file1 of=/dev/null
bs=1024k count=100
performance is around.. 700 kB/s !
/proc/mounts shows rsize has been negotiated to 1mB
If we force rsize to a smaller value, 32kB, the

successfully joined it to the domain, but cannot browse into the shares, as
it constantly asks for a password, and refuses to accept any including root

How many asterisk process's are "normal"?
Hello all,
I have two test beds running the exact same version of asterisk 1.2.7.1,
latest of zaptel, libpri, etc..
Test bed #1 (Solaris 9,sparc ultra 5):
This one is closer to a "production" machine, in that it is connected to a
sip provider thru an iax2 connection and have an incoming DID configured. I
can send and receive calls.
Test bed #2 (Slackware Linux 10.2, AMD XP chip):
