Winbind Authentication Problem
Had planned to use LDAP and replace an NT4 domain, but trouble with a software vendor (long story) means we need to keep the NT4 domain and use winbind for share authentication for the next few months. So, I religiously followed the TOSHARG winbind chapter, stopping short of making changes to /etc/pam.d files. I can browse and see shares from the Samba box via KDE's LAN browser, but

VMWare vs Parallels, and Zen
I've seen several references to running VMWare under CentOS, but does anybody know how well Parallels runs under CentOS? On a related note, now that Zen is as mature as it is, are commercial VMs really much better than Zen? Miark

Zen arch in 5.0?
Will 5.0 have scheduler, reg alloc etc. bits for explicit support of AMD's 1st gen Zen (Ryzen, Epyc) arch? Is it safe to assume that the changes for Zen's 2nd gen will land prior to the hardware release, once the 1st gen is added? I think zen2 will arrive next year.

OT? Creative Zen player not registering as a USB device
I plugged my son's new (Christmas) Zen V player into my CentOS 5.1 box and it doesn't register as a device that the system can see or mount. If I lsusb, it shows up as bus 2, device 8, but there is no corresponding /dev/??? device for it, so the system can't get at it. (I tried my flash drive in the same USB port and it works fine, so it's not the hardware.) How do I get around

So there's more patches in the pipeline to land, then? Slightly OT: Creative Zen not showing up when plugged in - what to do
I installed the 0.2.5 version of libmtp, ran the hotplug.sh script (which has a bug in it, but it's only for "old" hotplug support), the player shows up in lsusb, BUT gnomad2 can't seem to find it. What am I missing? Thanks. mhr -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

WinXP display resolution under Zen 3.0.3
Is there any way to change the maximum resoluton in the Xen virtual video driver to be more reasonable? I have a 1680 X 1050 LCD display running Suse 10.2, but the most resolution I can get with Xen is 12880 X 1024. Vmware server has a modification you can make to the .vmx file to increase the resolution to 1680 X 1050. Is there such asetting for Xen? Art

Samba 3.0.4-Suse-Package with Suse 9.0
Hello, at a client's site I have to use Suse Linux 9.0 Pro for specific kernel-modules Suse Linux 9.1 does not provide anymore. To get the server up-to-date I took the Samba-rpms from sernet.de and ran a successful "rpm -Uvh". For an application it is necessary to print via the smb-backend of CUPS, I have to get a queue pointing at a printer located at a Win-PC. That printer is

XEN 3.0.3 or 3.0.4 for SuSE 10.1?
Hi Folks, anyone updated XEN 3.0.2 on SuSE 10.1 to 3.0.3 or 3.0.4? If yes, how? And what are the possible pitfalls? Thx in advance. Regards Falko _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Server crash results in no printing (SuSE, Samba 3.0.4)
(yes, I know it's an old version of Samba but I *really* don't want to mess about upgrading right now) The server in question (SuSE Enterprise Linux 9) got itself in a tizz last night and was restarted cleanly via the shutdown -r command this morning. Everything comes back up, including Samba, and all is fine. Except that no-one can print. Nothing has changed in any of the

prerequisites for winbind (Samba-3.0.4-SuSE-9.0)
Hi there, I'm not able to get winbind to work, although searched google and studied and tried nearly every howto and forum entry on the net the last week.... it simply doesn't work and I don't understand why.... My Samba3-Domain SUPZ (samba & ldap Linux PDC, Windows Clients) works perfektly with all ldap users, groups (linux and from windows) and computer accounts (Win2000 WS).

file context menu takes for ever with 3.0.6, both sernet and suse
I've tested SerNet's ans SuSE's versions of Samba 3.0.6 on a test member server. Joining domain, attaching share all works but if I right-click a file, the context menu takes for ever to pop up. If I select Properties, it takes even longer until the dialog box appears. Right-clicking a directory pops up the context menu without delay and the Properties dialog box also comes fast, but

PDC problems
We have really enjoyed our first couple of weeks using samba2.2.2 as our PDC but the past couple of days have been a nightmare the server out of nowhere stopped letting people log in. We recieved an error message that said "Device is not installed on this network." Now we were able to get rid of the problem and at first were not sure how but, a couple of days later it happened again but

Server migration and software upgrade Suse 7.3/Samba 3 to Suse 9.3/Samba 3
I currently have a Samba 2.2.7a Domain running on Suse 7.3 that needs to be replaced. The machine that will take its place runs Samba 3 on Suse 9.3. The only docs I've seen so far covering migration have been from NT4 to Samba not Samba to Samba and the upgrade docs only cover same machine upgrades. It is possible that all clients be disconnected for this migration. I was planning on copying
