Hide Unreadable and user ACLs
I'm not sure if this is a bug or Working As Designed. I'm hoping
someone can clarify for me.
Brief environment: SLES 9, SP3; samba-3.0.20b-3.4 We use Posix ACLs for
a more granular control of permissions on our shares. We also use "hide
unreadable = yes" for one share (we'd prefer to use it for more but we
can't due to this issue).
With "hide unreadable =

Samba 3.0.6 and OpenLDAP performance problem
Hello,
I'm running Samba 3.0.6 PDC with OpenLDAP 2.1.25 backend on a Linux
machine with RedHat 3.0 ES installed. This is a large installation
with separate Samba BDC and 2 file servers. The BDC server uses a
replica LDAP server, working as slave for the master LDAP server
installed at PDC. The number of domain accounts is about 1850 and
at the moment about 500 machines are added to the

"hide unreadable files" also hides readable files
Hello
We have a Samba 3.0.11 Fileserver running on Solaris and
joined to an Active Directory.
I have shares, with many directories, and I want to
hide the directories, people are not allowed to access
anyway. So I engaged the "hide unreadable files"
option.
This basically works.
The Problem arises, when the user is logged on locally
(not authenticated to the Domain) and mounts the

howto achieve 'hide unreadable' for msdfs symlinks
hi,
on a samba domain member file server i'm using dfs root shares with
multiple msdfs symlinks pointing to other shares (on the same server),
which works fine. These linked shares have different access rights,
therefore a user might have access to one linked share but not to another.
Is there any option to hide msdfs-symlinks to shares that a user cannot
read? (the same as 'hide

Hide unreadable, strange problem
The "hide unreadable = yes" option gives strange results with samba 3.x.
Everything works fine when the server runs as a domain controller. Users
see the directories they are supposed to (unix group permission) in the
share. Turning off domain control and setting "security = DOMAIN",
however, hides every directory in the share unless you are an admin user.
I can cd to the

hide unreadable files
Hi all!
I have a problem with the "hide unreadable = yes" option. In windows xp professional sp2 with explorer, or ssh or smbclient, either directories and files does not hide.
I'm using debian 4.0 with XFS file system, ACL, kernel 2.6.18-5-amd64, and samba 3.0.24.
Any idea? It is a bug?
Thanks!

incorrect behavior: hide unreadable option in conjunction with user ACLs
Hi guys,
we are using samba 3.0.4 as domain member server (security=ADS) in our
Active Directory Domain. In order not to compromise social peace, we use
POSIX ACLs in conjunction with the hide unreadable option to hide
folders/files from users.
I'll show you an example to explain the problem:
I'm the user "SCHARRNET+M006U122" (SCHARRNET=domain suffix). I'm

Hide unreadeable directory
Hello,
I am using samba 3.6.6
I would like to use the option "hide unreadable = yes" but only for directories because the actual option slow down the access to directories with a large number of files and I don't need to hide these files.
Is it possible and how can I do this ? And, will it improve directory access ?
Thanks

Problem with "hide unreadable = yes" in Samba 2.2.5
Hello,
I'm new to this list, so please excuse, if my problem as already be solved
or is "handmade".
My Question:
We set up Samba 2.2.5 with ACLs and everything works fine. We want to use a
very flat hirarchie, so we have one share for the users and one share for
the groups. To prevent our people from feeling uncomfortable, we want to
hide the directories to which they don't

quick poppassd question
Hello,
I did a quick change to the patched port of poppassd and am wondering if
you think my code would introduce any potential problems.
The idea is right after we check if the username exists, also check if the
UID of that username is over 1000. I wanted to make sure that no one
monkeys around with priveleged users once poppassd is running.
So, the middle chunk of code is mine, everything

user 'root' does not exist
Hello list
Sorry if this has been answered before, I have had a look around and
could not find any answers.
I am running samba 3.0.3pre2 on suse 9.0 - installed from suse rpms.
I have managed to join the 2k3 domain and users are authenticating
perfectly and all seems to be working, (users have actually remarked
about a speed increase!) although i get this strange message in the

[PATCH] build: remove unreadable files after filtering
Move the removal of the files which don't exist or cannot be read, doing
it after the filtering with excludefiles and hostfiles files.
This avoid stat'ing files which will be excluded later anyway, hence
reducing the I/O during a supermin build phase.

Why do we have unreadable binaries in Fedora at all? You may wonder:

Problem with invisible folders by using posix ACLs & the hide unreadable parameter (Samba-3.0.4/Linux)
Hi,
we've got a worse problem with our s.3.0.4 file server. The server is
configured as a domain member server and is running in security=ADS
mode. We use the hide unreadable parameter in conjunction with posix
ACLs to ensure, that our users only see those folders, on which they
have been authorized. With s.2.2.8a everything worked fine. Yesterday we
migrated to s.3.0.4 and have now the

SSH connection hangs with ipchains/RH6.2/OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 (butnot <= 2.3.0p1)
I figured this out -- looks like 2.5.1p1 is now using ports < 1024 on
the client side (wasn't before?). I had a ipchains rule to allow ACK
packets to 1024:65535, which was good enough for <= 2.3.0p1 :
#allow only ACK tcp packed
ipchains -A input -j ACCEPT -i eth0 -s any/0 --dport 1024:65535 -p tcp !
-y
So I added the following :
#allow return from ssh connections

cgi graphs text unreadable (black-on-black)
Guys,
This is probably known, but since I working on nut tonight, I thought I would
make sure. This is with the latest built from git. The cgi-bin script that shows
the graph of upsstats has text that is unreadable. The text is black and the
background is black. Here is a screenshot:
