Using Samba and Rational ClearCase Tools
Hello,
We are using Samba to connect our ClearCase server to the Windows environment. Our original configuration was one server hosting all our VOBs and Views. We have Samba configured to allow mapping of shares to our ClearCase Windows Clients. Everything was working fine. Now we have set up a second server to host all our Views separate from the VOBs. So we have a View server and a separate VOB

/etc/passwd, shadow, group, hosts
Hello All,
I''m new to puppet, and I''d like to know: Is there a formal best
practices guide for syncing { /etc/passwd, shadow, group, hosts}
across clients from the master? For instance; is it a better practice
to make a hard link to these files and share the link, as opposed to
just sharing the files directly via a target in fileserver.conf?
Inquiring minds want to know...

Winbind on HPUX 11, some small progress
Hi All,
Well, i've managed to enable some debugging in syslog, I had to put in
/etc/syslog.conf
;*.debug
on the syslog line.
So at least I have an error which is being returned into syslog from
winbind.
This is what I get from winbind

SSSD Passwd change problem
Hi,
I have sssd set up and it mostly works how I would expect, but the
ldap_chpass_uri does not seem to work correctly with the passwd command.
I have two configs, one working and one not:
Working:
ldap_uri = ldap://ldap.example.com
ldap_chpass_uri = ldap://ldap.example.com
Non Working:
ldap_uri = ldap://ldap3.example.com,ldap://ldap2.example.com,ldap://
ldap.example.com

/etc/passwd - Domain Controller Synchronization
Hello,
I don't know much about Samba so forgive me if this is a stupid question.
I'm currently working on a project for a client that relies on Unix machines
for their main applications. Access to Unix applications is done through
terminal emulation (vt 100) on Windows PCs.
We are implementing a Windows NT network for file an print sharing and to
support SMS. One of the goals of the

Working Passwd Chat for Unix Password Sync on Redhat 6.1
I have been trying to get the password sync working for Redhat 6.1 (samba 2.05a
rpm). I got
the PDC working this morning, so I'm happy. The FAQ section on the samba site
was very
helpful. The password sync was the only sticking point.
The default passwd chat script didn't work well
passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *ReType*new*UNIX*password* %n\n *passw

flock problems with index files and passwd-file
While experimenting a bit, I found that for some reason, locking indexes
with flock is problematic, but only if user is taken from passwd-file.
The host system is openbsd 3.9, dovecot's configuration is added at the
bottom.
Authentication is from two places - first from mentioned passwd-file,
then from passwd file using bsdauth (in this case, there're no problems
with flock). So, if

Replacing WinNT 4 PDC with Samba PDC
Hi All!
Thanks to all of you that responded to my previous posts. I've gotten a lot
more info now than I used to have!
But I still have questions. The biggest right now is: Is there a way build
up a Samba PDC as a direct replacement for an existing Windows NT 4.0 PDC?
All the material I've found to date is written from a standpoint of creating
a new domain as you create the Samba

Do I need to transform backtest returns before using pbo (probability of backtest overfitting) package functions?
[re-sending - previous email went out by accident before complete]
Hi Joe,
The centering and re-scaling is done for the purposes of his example, and
also to be consistent with his definition of the sharpe function.
In particular, note that the sharpe function has the rf (riskfree)
parameter with a default value of .03/252 i.e. an ANNUAL 3% rate converted
to a DAILY rate, expressed in decimal.

etc passwd and groups file
Hi,
I need to maintain a same user/group list on multiples systems. Can we
just copy the same passwd and groups file on all machines?
If we create a new user on one system then I will need to copy this to
all other systems. This is quite cumbersome. Any suggestions?

Calculating the Sharpe ratio
Hi useRs,
I am trying to calculate the Sharpe ratio with "sharpe" of the library
"tseries".
The documentation requires the univariate time series to be a
portfolio's cumulated returns. In this case, the example given
data(EuStockMarkets)
dax <- log(EuStockMarkets[,"FTSE"])
is however not the cumulated returns but rather the daily returns of the

getent passwd
Three users out of about 50 get no result using the "getent passwd" command.
The accounts are in good standing and can access all other network
services. The accounts are similar to other accounts which are
working.
The accounts do show up in a "getent group", and with "wbinfo -u"
Upgrading/Downgrading Samba isn't a possibility.
Thoughts or suggestions?

Wrong list.

doveadm search causes replication error message
Hi

I just noticed that 'doveadm search' apparently tries to replicate
mailboxes and spits out errors if a mailbox in the search query is not
found:

Fix passwd/shadow/group files?
I've been copying old passwd/shadow/group files from system to system
for ages across different distributions/updates and would like to
get them back in sync with each other so the system tools will
work. Now they hang like:
#userdel irose
hangs forever, syslog says:

I?m getting some replication errors between Samba and Windows Server2008R2:

Can anybody help me understand AIC and BIC and devise a new metric?
Hi all,
Could anybody please help me understand AIC and BIC and especially why do
they make sense?
Furthermore, I am trying to devise a new metric related to the model
selection in the financial asset management industry.
As you know the industry uses Sharpe Ratio as the main performance
benchmark, which is the annualized mean of returns divided by the annualized
standard deviation of returns.
