Samba w/Winbind HA cluster
We are planning to build an HA cluster of samba servers, using winbind to authenticate against an Active Directory domain. The problem I see with this, is that the Winbind uid mappings will not necessarily be the same on both nodes in the HA cluster. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the winbind uid and gid mappings to match on 2 separate servers? Alex Laslavic Havertys Tech

Need Samba printing help
I am posting again - Please help. I am trying to add print drivers for a samba shared printer to a Windows2000 group - Everything up to this step works - I am using Samba 3.0.1 rpcclient -d 100 -Uroot -c 'adddriver "Windows NT x86" \ E323:LMAAE1DD.dll:\ LMAAE1P1.PPD:LMAAE1DA.DLL:LMAAE1DA.HLP:\ NULL:RAW:LMAA1B1.DLL,LMAAE1BJ.DLL,LMAAE1BT.DLL,LMAAE1DA.ALL,LMAAE1ED.DLL,LMAAE1PI.EXE,\

Unix Extensions
I have a Samba 3 server, and a client with Samba 3. The server has a share for home directories, and the client is trying to mount it, but after it's mounted, I still can't create any symbolic links. Also, the GUI login (Red Hat Enterprise default) isn't working, but I think that's just a symptom of the symbolic and hard links not working. Any idea why, when I enable unix

Print Server Degradation
Our Samba print server seems to slowly degrade, and get more and more errors over time, until it starts recieving "tdb fetch failed" messages, fatal errors, and getting INTERNAL PANIC's and dumping core etc.... I believe this to be related to .tdb corruption, but the tdbbackup utility does not see any problem with the TDB's. Eventually, certain printers will go

Windows Read Only attribute, and Microsoft Excel.
I have recently started migrating a Win2k fileserver to a Samba 3.0.2a server. Running in full ADS mode, with winbind enabled for authentication against our Win2k PDC. I am also running as much of the ACL support as I can. The problem I am encountering involves excel documents. The documents are migrated from the Win2k server, to the Samba server, and are retaining all of the ACL's during

Samba 3 + Win2k = Headache
I have a feeling I may have lost focus on the issue in some of my previous messages... so here's my dilemma. I have several Windows (2000 and XP) clients, and several Linux (Red Hat Enterprise 3, 2.4.21 kernel) clients. I've got a couple servers, one is currently Windows 2000 Server, and one is Linux (same as above, with the snapshot Samba running). I want to be able to have users log

Strange problem with icons on the desktop
Thanks everyone for helping me get the home directories working over SMB, especially Ben Ford for his workaround for the Xauth and GDM. Now I've got a problem that, most likely, nobody's ever noticed before... or is something specific to me. I've got a Linux client, and a Samba server, and a Windows 2000 server, both set up EXACTLY the same. I've got a test user and the home

Ghost Image + Winbind = Panic
I had a test machine up and running Samba, joining an AD domain, and set up with winbind... when I ran "getent passwd" it would list all the local users, and all the domain users. I could also log in as a domain user without any problem. So, I made an image of the hard drive, and copied it to 7 other machines. Now, those 7 are having a strange problem. I changed the names and IP's of

Samba PDC and Automatic Printer Install
Hello, I am trying to install automatic printer driver download and install. I am running Samba 3, as a PDC, on RedHat 7.3. It seems everything is setup correctly, although I cannot get the rpcclient to 'see' my printer. Please notice these two printers listed below ar the same (lp & HP2300). Suse 9.1 Samba
I have been trying for two weeks to get onto a Win2k domain which has active directory with no success. The Suse YAST samba client will not do ADS, only domain, server, or user, so I went to the command line stuff I found the the Samba documentation. I can do kinit and get back the following: sha-linux:/etc/samba # kinit art_fore@3MTS.COM art_fore@3MTS.COM's Password: kinit: NOTICE:

.Xauthority & SMB
I asked this question a while ago, but never got any response. Since then, I've researched the problem some more, so I can give a much more concise description of what's happening. I'm mounting the home directories of the users upon login (using pam_mount) from the Windows server. However, none of the users can run X Windows. It says there's a problem with the .Xauthority file.

validate root locally with winbind
I have set up winbind successfully, but every time I need to perform any task as root, winbind tries to login via the domain server, which gives an "incorrect password" error. Is there a way to set things up so that the root user is only checked against the local passwd/shadow files? -- Ramon Casha Malta Linux User Group (http://linux.org.mt)

last try: change NT password with samba tools?
Hello, last try: Is it possible to change the password on a NT PDC with a Samba tool? I want to bind to the PDC as administrator and set the password of a normal user to a new value - without knowing the old value. I've asked this already but, unfortunately, got no answer (http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2003-December/076170.html ,

sharing users home dirs for Win2003 and linux
I've setup a linux box with winbind as a member in Win2003 AD and everything works fine. I want to share the Win2003 users home dirs with the linux box, i.e. when a user logs into the linux box, after he's authenticated through winbind, he should have his home dir from the Windows box, how can I do that?? Obviously I have to use CIFS to mount the dirs, but how do I maintain file and dirs

LDAP Idmap
I'm having quite a bit of trouble getting an LDAP directory set up for the idmap backend for winbind. I've been working on it for quite a while, and haven't found any very helpful websites or anything. I've found quite a bit on how to set up a PDC using LDAP, which would be nice, but I already have the PDC... I just need LDAP to host UID's and GID's. The things I'd like

Samba - Oplocks = no
In order to deal with bizarre MS Office junk, it looks like I may have to disable oplocks on my samba server. What kinds of problems, if any could arise from my having disabled the oplocks? Alex Laslavic Havertys Tech Services

ACL Propagation problem
Using Samba 3.0.2a with acl support. My problem is as follows: When using the Windows ACL editor (security tab in folder properties) on a folder, if you set the check boxes for full control (or any combination or permissions) for a user, the Posix acl's are set for both the user, and the default user. This in itself is fine, because it causes newly created folders, and files to inherit

Printer accounting/quota ?
Hi all, I am about to install a Samba server at a local school, and i need some advice and/or experience from others who have worked on a installation of that type/size. My plan is to roll-out a Samba server (of course), with LDAP back-end, and a number of printer queue's via CUPS. There will be aprox. 1000 user accounts, mostly students. The school has asked for a solution that would
