mount cifs trouble
Hi, I am trying to get an fedora core 2(samba-3.0.3-5) export mounted as cifs on a fedora core 3 test 1(kernel-2.6.7-1.478, samba-3.0.5-0pre1.0). It always gives an error operation not permitted. [root@ayanami1 root]# mount -t cifs -o user=moo, password=cow //ayanami3/ moo /mnt/cow mount error 1 = Operation not permitted Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs) I

Samba 3.0.5 cannot mount Windows 2003 shares
I'm having a real hair-raising problem here and I thought maybe someone could help. At least I hope so. My workstation was running 3.0.2a, upgraded to 3.0.5. After upgrading to 3.0.5, I can no longer mount shares on my 2003 server. This started happening on an upgrade to 3.0.4 as well, I might add. Permissions-wise: I own the directory mounts on the local Linux workstation,

mount.cifs and kerberos
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Sorry if this is a stupid question...:) I have successfully mounted windows 2003 shares on linux using mount.cifs. I see from packet traces that smb signing is enabled and working (signing is set to mandatory on the win2k3 server). So I mount like this: $ mount.cifs //server/share -o nosuid, user=admin password: I would like to eliminate the

"text file busy" on cifs-mounted dir *doesn't* cause rsync error!
Hi there I am running rsync-2.6.9rc2 and am having difficulty getting rsync to report an error when I think it should I mounted (via "mount -t cifs") a remote Win2K3 server and on a XP client opened a Word document. Then from Linux (FC5) I attempted a bash$ cp /tmp/other.txt file.doc cp: cannot create regular file `file.doc': Text file busy That makes sense - CIFS has the file

Integrating Win2k3 into Samba PDC (on OSX 10.4.10)
I have a problem related to what I thought would be a fairly simple procedure. We have a working OSX Server 10.4.10 Open Directory system, with Windows Services enabled via Samba as a PDC. We have joined approximately 20 WinXP workstations to the Samba domain, and OD users can log into these systems as expected (i.e. authentication works). I have a Win2K3 server that was recently purchased and

centos5 cifs/autofs
Hi all I am trying to use the cifs module to mount a share from a win2k3 server but I am getting the following error in /var/log/messages - the filesystem does mount but i'm having other issues accessing the data from our web based app. Can anyone explain why I get this error please? Indeed the file mount_cifs.so does not exist on the machine. automount[31080]: open_mount: (mount):cannot

major cifs bug in 2.6.19+?
Hi there (I've reported this to the linux-cifs list and received no response, so now I'm trying here) I just tried upgrading a CentOS-4.4 server we have from it's 2.6.18 kernel to 2.6.19 and then 2.6.20 - but in both cases it broke Linux cifs support. We have a Win2K3 server that needs to be mounted under Linux, and under 2.6.18 (or WindowsXP/etc), a particular directory is

cifs mount desktop icon
Hi, I am mounting a Windows share on /media/%(USER)/mountpoint via pam_mount and I would like to show the volume desktop icon for every user logged in. The thing is that it works only for the first user that gets logged, when another user logs in, the desktop icon is missing, but the share mount works just fine if you navigate through the /media directory. The share is the same for all the users,

mount.cifs - everything is owned by root (when mounting 2003 shares)
I just tried to mount Windows 2003 share. I used the following command to mount it: mount.cifs //10.1.1.1/G$ /mnt/2003/ -o user=admin, domain=MYDOMAIN The mount is fine, I can read the files. However, each and every file is owned by root, which is not true. Moreover, each and every file and folder has the same permissions, which is also not true. I can change the owners and permissions, but

Can't see shares, and also smbmount works but mount -t cifs doesn't
Hi (this is most likely a newbie question). A couple of problems. I have a linux guest (puppy) running on vmplayer on a friend's machine, which runs WinXP home. I have folder sharing enabled on the host for a few different folders. I am trying to mount the winxp host shared folders onto the linux guest. First problem is that I can't seem to see the shares. smbtree only lists the

how to mount shares as a user without mount.cifs setuid
I'm running Debian/Squeeze on an AMD64 system. For some reason they have recently stopped shipping mount.cifs with the setuid bit set. Now it appears that they have changed the internal settings to prevent it from running setuid. This means that I can't define the share in fstab with "user" and connect from my Linux user account. Mounting smb/cifs shares seems to be blocked

2k3 DC shares mounting without permissions
I have samba 3.0.7 from the official RPMs working almost-perfect in our win2k3 domain with fedora core 2 ... except: smb mount works from the box in question as excpected for all but our two win2k3 domain controllers, one of which is our file server. shares mount from these but the permissions are as follows: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 26 23:46 floppy ?--------- ? ? ? ?

CIFS problem with folder mounted drives
Having an issue with the CIFS VFS module. One of our fileserver has a directory structure with hard drives mounted into that directory structure, so --> C:\volumes\case\1 is a hard drive C:\volumes\case\2 is a hard drive If I share out and mount up the volumes folder, I can see the case folder, and if I navigate into that folder it shows '1' and '2' as links to nothing
